SUSTAINABLE DRYWALL SYSTEM OF CONSTRUCTION FOR INSTITUITIONAL BUILDINGS IN THE TROPICS; A drive towards resilience in the provision of public school facilities in Nigeria.

INTRODUCTION
• Previously, much ado has been made about the use of alternative building materials, low cost housing technologies, energy efficient construction, alternative forms of energy etc, in the Tropics.Yet much is left to be desired regarding its implementation, especially on a large scale.
• The realities of climate change and global warming is now hitting home.
• Several communities are under the threat of flooding, incessant rains, loss of farmlands and houses, persistent warming up of the cities, etc.
• Vulnerable communities in Nigeria lack the capacity for mitigation, leaving adaptation as the prime option for survival in this present times.
OBJECTIVES
The introduction of dry wall technology in construction will proffer solutions to the earlier mentioned environmental issues,
Serve as a drive towards adaptation in Nigeria as it not only is cost effective, but is also environmentally responsive and flexible.
OBJECTIVES CONT.
The proposal will serve as a guide for relevant stakeholders and the Government at large to adopt environmentally responsive, cost effective approaches in the provision of public facilities in the face of climate uncertainties
Advantages Of The Drywall System
• Internal comfort- because of the insulation infill, it reduces heat penetration and works like refrigerator, thereby keeping internal spaces cooler.
• Reduces energy usage- because it is tropicalized, cooler interiors, this reduces the need for air-conditioning.
• Flexibility- can be taken apart, moved to another location for re-use.
Environmental Design opportunities• Faster system of construction which
will be useful for mass production of facilities by the Government.
• The foundations can be supported on stanchions and this works well for flood prone areas, as it will be based on stilts.
• The system can incorporate solar roof panels into its framework as the wall system becomes the roof as well. This enables electricity to be produced locally via cells for computers, and interactive boards.
The classroom stratified according to the existing typologies; bungalows, 1 story and 3storey buildings
The panels comes in standard sizes of 2400mm x 1200mm , with thickness varying from 25mm to150mm.
Each panel has channels for electrical wiring so all wires re hidden within the framework.

MTD CONT.
Typical bungalow has its level at lest 150mm-450mm above ground level.
For the first variant the subsequent classes, after the first, are 1m above ground level so as to transfer the first classroom to the upper floor s shown in the 3Ds.
