SOCKTOBER UPDATE
Our Socktober Service Project is going great. To date we have over 1,200 pairs of new socks donated to our school, and over 2,500 district-wide! Every morning we count our donations and I remind the kids of our mission: It isn’t about who brings in the most socks, or what house is in the lead! It is about helping others in need. People need US to help! So please, ask a friend, business owner, neighbor, anyone, to please help us make our goal of 10,000 pairs by 10/31/16 so we can make a difference in the lives of others! Keep rocking SOI!

In an effort to keep our students safe, we will once again participate in an ALICE training drill. On October 17, 2016, all students in the district will view the ALICE student training video. The video is approximately 10 minutes in length and will be followed by a post-video discussion. Students will watch age appropriate videos - a primary grade video (K-4) and a secondary video (5-12).
Following the video and class discussion, each school will conduct a traditional “Lockdown” Drill and an Immediate Evacuation Drill to identified gathering points on campus. We anticipate that the entire process will be complete within 45 minutes.
What is ALICE?
The purpose of ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training is to prepare individuals to handle potential threats in their building. ALICE teaches individuals to participate in their own survival, while leading others to safety. Though no one can predict this type of situation, this new set of skills will greatly increase the odds of survival should anyone face this most unfortunate situation. We strongly believe that we have a responsibility to keep our students as safe as possible.
Sincerely,Steve Thompson
