it’s not just the desire to slake your thirst with

delicious soft drinks that drives us. We started

the Lemonaid & ChariTea project to incite and

shape the process of social change. With each

bottle we want to make a small contribution.

We want to change the world drink by drink.

A little, at least. Beyond Fairtrade, every bott-

le purchased supports our charitable orga-

nization ‘Lemonaid & ChariTea e.V.’. So far,

we’ve raised more than 1 million euro; money

which the charity can now put to good use for a

variety of development projects in the farmers’

local communities. In the winter of 2008, we

took a deep breath and went for it: quit our day

jobs and transformed our vision into reality.

Just like the Beatles, our business grew up in

Hamburg’s St Pauli, a bohemian and vibrant

area then and now. In our kitchen there, we

juiced limes, brewed tea, crushed sugar, invi-

ted friends over and clinked glasses. When all

those glasses were drained, and much fun had

in the process, they were ready – Lemonaid

& ChariTea. As a result of capacity problems

in our kitchen, and given that little help from

seasoned professionals never hurts, since the

summer of 2009 a small organic company in

the south of Germany has taken over the role of

fi lling the bottles. And they do it well.

BEYOND FAIRTRADE – EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES. Aside from being Fairtrade, every bottle of

Lemonaid and ChariTea also contributes to a

higher cause. We want to support local projects

that improve social, ecological and economical

structures in those parts of the world which

global economic developments have placed at a

signifi cant disadvantage.

Therefore we donate fi ve pence for every bottle

sold to the charitable organization ‘Lemonaid

and ChariTea e.V.’. Over £1 million have been

raised to date.

The organization wants to help people to help

themselves, and therefore supports local pro-

jects that foster political, economical and cul-

tural involvement. All projects are carefully

selected by the charity itself and visited locally

on a regularly basis. Sponsorship through the

sale of Lemonaid and ChariTea has been the

charity’s main source of funding so far.

WE BELIEVE IN FAIRTRADE.We pay higher prices for our raw ingredients and

therefore support a fair and humane agricul-

ture. With the help of Fairtrade bonuses, local

farmers can improve their living conditions and

initiate community projects. Our beverages are

all Fairtrade certifi ed. But we don’t just want to

rely on international seals of quality. We want to

know exactly where our ingredients come from,

and hear the story behind them. Every year, we

travel to the growing regions of our farmers to

meet them face-to-face and learn about their

living and working conditions.

For each bottle sold fi ve pence goes towards the

charitable organization ‘Lemonaid & ChariTea e.V.’

Every bottle of Lemonaid and ChariTea contains only organic

and Fairtrade ingredients.

CRATE EXPECTATIONS.It’s not just our drinks - our blackboards,

stools and benches want in on the green ac-

tion. So, we make them as sustainable as we

can. Firstly with clever use of ‘upcycling’, and

secondly through positive social action at the

production stage. Our point-of-sale materials

are made in two integration workshops in

Hamburg. These facilities help physically and

socially disadvantaged people to (re)-enter the

workforce and manage their everyday lives.
