Applications Sodium benzoate is a preservative widely used in acidic foods such as salad dressings, carbonated drinks, jams and fruit juices. It is also used in animal feed and food as an additive and preservative. In the personal care and pharmaceutical industries, it is also used as a preservative to prolong the shelf life of many products. Sodium Benzoate is also used in fireworks as a fuel in whistle mix, a powder that emits a whistling noise when compressed into a tube and ignited.
