•Appalachians are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world -250 million year ago

•These mountains have been worn down by water, ice, and wind

•Glaciers once covered a part of the Northeast

•East of the Appalachian Mountains lies a low plateau

•Fall lineFall line- is where the hard rock of the mountains and the plateau meets the softer rock of the Coastal Plain

•Flowing water wears away at the soft rock

•Streams and rivers create waterfalls at the fall line
