Social Media in PR Many forms of social media
There are hundreds out there.
Networks are expanding rapidly and even more are being added daily.
The questions are:
- Should I engage in them?
- Does social networking really get me anywhere?
- Which social media sites should I use?

1. Conduct a people search – not a job search Identify the top 5 companies you want to work for and search for
names of employees – find blogs, Facebook pages, follow them on Twitter. Connect with people on-line. Get to know them. Then later on, you
can check on possible job openings.

2. Start a blog – write about topics in your expertise
There are many blogs publishing sites out there: Wordpress.org or Blogger.com are the most popular and is easy to use.
3. Be proactive on Twitter
Talk to others about their interests. Share links/sites that might be of interest to others
Don’t make every post about your business Instead of asking what are you doing, ask what has your attention?
Give advice. Follow interesting people.
Use Twitter Search to see who’s talking about you. Use Twitter to do opinion polls/surveys
Break news to others quick.

Mostly used by businesses, & professionals. LinkedIn operates the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with more than 135 million members in over 200 countries and territories. There were nearly two billion people searches on LinkedIn in 2010. Based on third quarter 2011 metrics, LinkedIn members are on pace to do more than four billion searches on the LinkedIn platform in 2011. LinkedIn started off 2011 with about 1,000 full-time employees located all around the globe, up from around 500 at the beginning of 2010. LinkedIn counts executives from all 2011 Fortune 500 companies as members; its corporate hiring solutions are used by 75 of the Fortune 100 companies. More than 2 million companies have LinkedIn Company Pages.
