What is it? To be aware of the problems that different societies and

communities face on a day-to-day basis.  Social awareness is consciousness shared within a society. It

can also be defined as awareness about the latest problems or technology that different societies and communities need to know; to be conscious of hardships and difficulties of society.

Social Awareness

Page 8: Social Awareness on Smart Cities

Why is it important? For better understanding towards the improvement of our society.

Not being aware of what is going on can dramatically limit the potential of human resources. The world is changing, and human resources must be conscious enough of the shift to not only prevent disaster, but also make timely decisions and resource development

HEALTHCARE For the prosperity of a smart city, the people of the city

must be fully aware of their health and habits.

The central government of India has prepared a blueprint for the development of 100 smart cities in the country. One of the key elements of the proposed smart cities includes state of the art health facilities for everyone. The potential applications of technology to improve efficiency, safety, and quality of health care in India are truly enormous.

• Patients queue and wait for hours at primary clinics- first come, first served.

• Limited number of health workers, equipment and supplies.

• Patients have to wait hours/days for ambulance transport.

• Some die while waiting for assistance or transport.

CURRENT SITUATION ANALYSIS

SOLUTIONS TO SPREAD AWARENESS COMMUNITY AWARENESS Health Talk weekly radio programme on city local

radio. Health research news to Radio Listening Clubs

and public places. TV and radio shows focusing on viral diseases to

improve recognition in communities. Sufficient amount of ambulances for medical

transport.

SMART APP FOR HEALTHCARE  In hospitals, electronic

medical records can be used to set up notifications that are automatically sent to the staff when it’s time for a patient to take medicine or when a test is due. In a similar manner, patients receive text messages on their phone to remind them of scheduled appointments.

NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS Awareness through different social media

platforms. Through cinemas all over the city. Through digital screens all over the city . Through digital libraries and digital news

platformsAppropriate TV shows for current

happenings.

DIGITAL LIBRARIES A digital library is a special library with a focused

collection of digital objects that can include text, visual material, audio material, video material, stored as electronic media.

ADVANTAGES No physical boundary. The user of a digital library need not to go to the library

physically; people from all over the world can gain access to the same information, as long as an Internet connection is available.

Round the clock availability Multiple access. The same resources can be used simultaneously by a number of

institutions and patrons. Information retrieval. The user is able to use any search term (word, phrase,

title, name, subject) to search the entire collection. Digital libraries can provide very user-friendly interfaces, giving click able access to its resources.

• Space. Whereas traditional libraries are limited by storage space, digital libraries have the potential to store much more information, simply because digital information requires very little physical space to contain them and media storage technologies are more affordable than ever before.

• Added value. Certain characteristics of objects, primarily the quality of images, may be improved. Digitization can enhance legibility and remove visible flaws such as stains and discoloration.

• Easily accessible.

Cleanliness and Sanitation

Page 19: Social Awareness on Smart Cities

Cleanliness and Sanitation In country like India, sanitation is a factor by

which India is seen to be a degraded country. There must be a smart way to aware the people

about the cleanliness and proper sanitation. Public toilets must be also functioned in a

technical way. They must be equipped with well advanced proximity sensors and water level rising sensors resulting in usage of optimum water.

EDUCATION

For a smart city, education is one of the major factors which can contribute effectively to a smart city.

We can aware the people about different technologies like e-market, online shopping/purchasing, e-cash, online pay. We can built an android application which will give

information about each and every domain related to internet technologies.

Our mode of Education should also be smart which means that interactive boards, digital electronic pen and various devices like visualizers must be used.

Page 22: Social Awareness on Smart Cities

Smart Education initiative has been supported by diverse technology brands by introducing various digital learning solutions.

Devices including document cameras and projectors make it possible for schools and colleges to implement instructions in

smart classrooms.

Smart boards – This is an interactive white board which allows the teacher can digitally draw on that image.

Digital Podium – This advanced lecture stand is all-in-one smart classroom equipment

Smart Class ICT – The solution includes K-12 Digital content, assessment suite introduced on a most advanced offline or online LMS.

Visualizers – Also known as document camera, this visual presenter is a real-time image capture devices

Page 23: Social Awareness on Smart Cities

Microsoft OneNote – Though it looks just like a traditional notebook, it rocks interactive whiteboards. The notes teacher write on the board go directly into the notebook that they

share with the students.

Evernote – Evernote is a tool that can be effectively used on iPad in

classrooms.

Some of the mobile learning apps are-

Transportation

Page 25: Social Awareness on Smart Cities

There has to be smart way of informing people about the transportation. Apps like Google maps helps the vehicle driver to locate a particular place. Moreover it also tells about the traffic density on a particular road.

Public transportation is convenient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly. We can aware people about various events or news by publishing them in a digital way on buses, trains and cabs.

Also an application must be made to inform the mayors, municipal corporation about the issues related to transportation.

• Components of ITS Architecture:• ITS – Intelligent Transport System An Overview or (Conceptual Model) –

• A top-level diagram, which shows how the various elements of the transportation system gets integrated and explains how the whole system works.

• A Functional (or Logical) Architecture (or Viewpoint) – • It consists of logic involved in the integration of various

services. If we have to implement something we must first think and plan the series of operations needed to satisfy the various user needs.

• A Physical Architecture (or Viewpoint) –• Involves the various physical nodes involved in the

system. A system can’t be imagined without proper infrastructure, so the specifications for the physical components and their locations for a particular deployment are required.
