Dearest Key club, A lot has been going on during April. I would like to apologize for my absence during this month. I was on vacation in Cancun. I hope all of you were having as much as fun as I have. I had the opportunity to zip line through the jungle and I got to gallop horses with my family. I also got to go to Xcaret and watch the main show and go snorkeling in underwater caves. What about you guys? I heard K-one day was a blast! I am most definitely attending next year! The Keyclub talent show was recently on April 25. It was a big hit. The end of the year DCM was on April 26th and I hope all of you attended it. Unfortunately I could not make that either. Dearest Key club,

A lot has been going on during April.

I really wish I could have experience all of these events with you keyclubbers!

Look out! The NWCTA Keyclub website is launch-ing soon! Also I would like to talk about this months newsletter. The color scheme looks really girly this time because of the spring colors! I still would like to get some criticism so I can learn and get better!

Do you want to contribute to Keyclub? Send in pic-tures and articles from events you go to! Why? You will be featured in newsletters like these! Also it would get you in the spotlight and you get to tell and encour-age all of the other key clubbers. So get to it!

As cliché as it sounds, Cali-Nev-Ha District Convention is really an indescribable experience. This year was my first year of going to DCON and I’d heard great things about it, but I wasn’t sure what to expect. I can tell you now that it really was beyond any expectations. The workshops at DCON were really beneficial. At DCON, you have the choice of what workshop you want to attend out of a few choices. The workshops I attended really opened my eyes about a lot about Key Club and about myself. I was inspired to better myself, my club, and community. There was a workshop for everyone to attend that would fit their interest. I was also able to meet a lot of new people. The spirit at DCON was exhilarating. Everyone at DCON was radiat-ing spirit. It made everything so much more fun. Seeing everyone repre-senting clubs and divisions, cheering, and getting into spirit battles was wonderful. I can’t even count how many times I cheered “LV” in spirit battles against California key clubbers. It wasn’t just the cheering, though, you could feel every-one’s passion and spirit for what they do in Key Club. They were genuinely excited about being at DCON and ready to show it. Losing my voice was totally worth it too. The general sessions at DCON overwhelmed me. Of course, they overwhelmed me in the best of ways. I’d never been surrounded by so many key clubbers before. Like I said before, the spirit at DCON was everywhere, and showed most through the general sessions. All of the key club-bers attended the general sessions, and the rooms were filled with non-stop cheers. There was plenty of socializing as well. During the first general session, we had Patrick Maurer, a speaker, come and share his stories with us. He was an excellent speaker and unique in his words. His speech really moved me and made me think about what kind of a difference I, a member of Key Club, could make. The next day’s general sessions included being introduced to important figures, videos and speeches, the introduction of our next district project and district board, and of course awards. It was a proud moment whenever our club received an award. At the very last general session, the district board was retired, includ-ing all the current LTG’s, while the new board was installed. It was such a bittersweet moment and quite emotional; saying goodbye to the now retired board and welcoming the new board.

Everyone was friendly at DCON. You could basically go up to anyone, say hi, and they were your new friends. I was able to interact with a lot of new people. It was just a friendly, spirited atmosphere that kept you pumped up and helped you step out of your comfort zone. There’s so much more I could write, but like I said, it’s kind of indescribable. I tell everyone I know now to attend next year. DCON was magical, and I hope that everyone gets to experi-ence it. It’s BEE-yond worth it.

KIWANIS, CIRCLE K, KEY CLUB, BUILDERS CLUB, almost every branch was represented at K One day. I was lucky enough to be part of a national event for the Kiwanis family. K One Day was a great experi-ence. It offered people so much. For the ones who think it's only an 'asian' club, go to this event and you will definitely be proven wrong.

There was various races there. It wasn't limited. You were able to walk around and meet new people from other divisions or in the other branches of Kiwanis. The work? Well it might seem boring. It really wasn't at all. You're out in the desert picking up trash. Of course there's the usual, normal pieces of trash like wrappers and cans. But some of the things you found looked to be ten years old. You found bottles, bottle caps, rusted screws, random metal parts that you had no idea what came from and rusted car bumpers that didn't seem to fit our time period. There were TONS of clam shells too ! Since the lake had covered more land back then than it did now, you could find whole shells almost a mile away from the shore! Worried about it being hot? ... We live in Vegas, it's not that bad this early in the hot season. It might get burning after a while, but it's worth it. You most likely will be tanned. But hey, you can't expect to not tan if you're out-side for 4 hours helping the environment. People are really nice about it too. I, myself, talked to 3 different families about cleaning up. They told me how it was great that we were trying to do what we can. It helped the fish and the boats. I was told how the careless citizens just throw trash around. It ends up falling into the lake, which can get caught up in the motors of the boats. It can also kill the fish because it gets so dirty and piled up. By cleaning up, we inspire other people. When they see us doing what needs to be done, they stop and think about what their doing. It might help them take that can to the trash instead of tossing it onto the nearby shore. This little act of cleaning up the lake/desert has more benefits then you think..you help the environment, you meet new people, & you even get some tanning done! I definitely plan on going next year because I had a great time. But I hope next year, we can be the biggest group there!

Kiwanis One Day, or K One Day, a day where all groups of Kiwanis come together and do service together. That’s ALL AROUND THE WORLD! But for us we went to Lake Mead for trash pick up. I was glad to see all the other clubs and see famil-iar faces from other school. However what I enjoyed the most was meeting some Builders Club and hearing them cheer. It made me smile and excited to see how well they will do in High School. For the Trash pick up, it was crazy the things you find is ri-

diculous. The weirdest thing I found was a bottle submerged in the dirt, so I had to kick it out. It was hot and some people came unprepared so I was carrying sun block and ended up spraying it on people I didn’t even know. Also I loved the turn out and how many people did end up going even though it was a far trip to make. This was a very fun event and I can’t wait to go back next year!

NWCTA’s 5th Annual Talent Show took place this week! I’m so thankful for everyone who turned up to support The American Cancer Society, the performers, and Key Club. The attendance was great, more than I would’ve ever ex-pected, we even had former students and kids from other schools show up. There wasn’t a single act I wasn’t im-pressed with. Watching so many people get hyped up over the amazing martial arts performance and choreography, and then hearing 70 something people hush when a singing voice started up brought a smile to my face. And regardless of the heat and the fact I spent the majority of the afternoon darting around with my camera I had a blast and I hope everyone who went did too! It was amazing to see an im-promptu dance battle and a lovely couple take the first step towards going to Prom. I forget sometimes, how much of a family this school can be. And I was fortunate enough to witness actual family supporting their children, and hearing the massive screams for every performer. It was a wonderful reminder of how close we are and how much fun we can have under any circumstances, not to mention doing some wonderful service while we were at it.

Aprils DCM

DCM, I can say many things about what I had experienced today go-ing to my first ever DCM, my expectations were met; they were ex-ceeded in a way. It was a short event but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun. In few hours of DCM I got to see the many Key Clubs in Las Vegas. Just doing the cheers with everyone was something I enjoyed. So many things had happened the speech’s all the awards; the cheer-ing and so on was a good experience. All-in-all I enjoyed my first DCM and even though it was my First ever DCM I’m sure I’ll be attending any future DCMs!

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for? I get mistaken for Miranda Cosgrove. I think I look nothing like her though. We just have similar cheek bones.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I'm undecided on what I want to be when I grow up. There's nothing that really strikes my interest at the moment. I'm lean-

ing towards something in the film/news industry. I still have time to choose, though, so I'll just see (:

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time? Usually on social networking sites talking to my friends. There's not much else to do in 30 minutes. (x

What would you name the autobiography of your life? Don't mind me sounding all odd but I think it's too early to judge what my autobiography would say. I'm only 16. I have a

whole life to live. There will probably be more eventful things in the future to title something about my life with.

What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Probably some nice instrumentals I can use for dramatic effect for moments in my life or something.

What was your favorite food when you were a child? I loved Mexican food and I still do. It's delicious. (x

What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?

Right now it's Somebody That I Used to Know. Pretty overplayed but I still like it.

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? I love playing sports, especially basketball.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be? I actually would want to see the universe being created (x I mean, it'd be pretty interesting. Controversial too.

What is your favorite animal? Snow leopards c: LOL

What is your favorite form of community service. I love all types of community service. No matter the type, I just love the feeling I get knowing I helped someone. It makes me feel amazing.

As a board member what do you hope to accomplish during your term? I want to keep more members spirited throughout the year so we can keep our member retention up. I want people to be spirited for community

service too, not just for the events at the beginning of the year. Although, I obviously want us to be crazy spirited and be on top at RTC too.

Kite day assembly

Kite day assembly was such a adventure for Marcus, Jordan, Ethan and I! Trying to get to the boys and girls club we got lost along the way. When we finally got there we were high in spirits and Marcus, Jordan and Ethan took a picture of the boys and girls club sign. When we arrived we met Kiwanis and the president and Vice

President of Cimarron Memorial high school. It was a great experience. One of the Kiwanis explained how to assemble the kites and then we got started. We worked very hard on making those kites and chatting with eve-rybody made it even more fun. The Kiwanis ordered pizza for us and we continued to make kites. We learned that Ethan Haines couldn't tie a knot and it took multiple times for him to get it right. He even ruined one kite! Overall, I experienced so much at this event. I met Kiwanis and other people from different clubs. We assembled about 150 kites out of 300. I learned that the Kiwanis put so much effort into kite day to make it fun for the children. I would defi-nitely attend this event next year. Also I’m going to kite day on May 12th so don't miss it!
