• Currently there are more than 135 apprenticeship trades in Ontario
• Trades are divided into 4 main sectors

Apprenticeship Benefits• On- the-job training program in a skilled
trade – Examples: Mobile Crane Operator,
Cook, Plumber, Sheet Metal Worker, Auto Body Repairer, Tool and Die Maker, Hairstylist…
• Start in High School with OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program) Earn hours towards apprenticeship.
• Co-op placement (2 or 4 credit options)
Co-operative Education (Co-op)
• Earn high school credits and gain work experience
• Try on a potential career choice• Available in either Semester 1 or
Semester 2• Available for half day (2 credit) or full day

College? University?
College/University Admissions
• Competition for admission to universities is high• Competition to many high
demand college programs is also high • Next year you will need to work
very hard to get the highest marks possible
• OSSD
• Specific required Grade 12 courses depending on the program chosen (usually ENG4C and perhaps MAP4C or MCT4C)
• Usually ‘C’ level courses, but some programs may require Grade 12 ‘U’ or ‘M’.

• 6 Grade 12 “U” or “M” courses (the minimum average will depend on which university and program that you’ve applied to)– One of these 6 will always be ENG4U
• Most university programs have specific course requirements– These courses are included in your “best 6
average”

Choosing the Right Courses• Work backwards from where you want to end
up.• Find where the programs that you’re
interested in are offered. – For example if you want to be a forensic scientist
use eINFO site to tell you what universities have this program.
– For example, if you want to be a computer animator, use the Ontario Colleges site to find what colleges have this program
Do I have all my compulsory courses?• Check your Graduation Indicator
(myBlueprint) to see if you have all of your compulsory subjects and/or which compulsory subjects are missing
• If you are missing any compulsory courses make sure you select them for next year
