Snowden gives State of the Co-op Update! In his annual State of the Co-op ad-dress, Cimarron Electric CEO, Mark Snowden had plenty to talk about.

He reported that we are in a very unique area that is quite opposite of other electric cooperatives in Okla-homa. Because of the oil and gas investments, we are experiencing growth that is unsurpassed in Cimarron’s history.

In a year that has been slow in elec-trical sales for co-ops in our state, Cimarron leads all of our sister co-operatives in increased Kwh sales. All of the 17 WFEC electric co-ops in Oklahoma experienced reductions in Kwh sales except for Cimarron Electric and two others. Western Farmers Electric Co-op is our power supplier.Even with this years mild weather, we are having record electricity sales.

In the past, our largest electricity users were residential members. We have always been small, compared to other electric cooperatives, in total electricity sales. Those numbers are changing.

Who we Serve* In 1999, 63% Residential, 37% Commercial. * In 2017, 44% Residential, 56% Commercial.

Snowden encouraged & thanked the employees for doing a great job in these busy times. We had a record # of new service work orders in 2016. 2017 is beating that number by 23% when look-ing at year to date numbers.

Snowden talking to fellow employees.

In addition to our regular CEC employees, we have 118 outside contractor personnel working to engineer, stake, clear right-of-way and construct line.

We are reinvesting revenue into building new infrastructure and expanding our operations and technology.

Three new substations will come on line this year. Our ability to serve more services and back feed lines during storms will be increased.

We will be expanding some of our buildings and grounds. We are experiencing growing pains and are planning new and better ways to serve our members. Mark Snowden concluded by saying it is an exciting time and a privilege to be able to work at Cimarron Electric Cooperative.

Calumet 3rd Graders are Safety Smart!

Calumet 3rd grade class in front of electrical safety farm.

CEC Safety Director Justin Glazier and Mrs. Brandi Mendell

Mr. Glazier and Mrs. Mendell and all of the Calumet 3rd grade class learn how a circuit works as they hold hands, complete the circuit and light up a special direct current light.

This and more demonstrations were on tap as Cimarron Elec-tric attended the 3rd grade class in Calumet. Safety videos were watched and demonstrations on the safety farm were fun for the class. The sight of electricity arcing and the smell of a burnt hotdog makes an impression. The question and answer session is always one of my favorites. The class asked some really good questions. The kids are always amazed at just how big and heavy the lineman’s insulated gloves are. Thank you Calumet 3rd graders for letting us come out to your school!

Just A Reminder

Cimarron Electric has contracted with Apex Right of Way, LLC to spray right of way out of the Hennessey, Dover, Marshall and Watonga substations this summer. Above is the logo that will be on their trucks and equipment. A Cimarron Contractor sign will also be on the trucks. “Our guys will be wearing dark blue shirts, hard hats and safety vest,” said Daren Mitchell of Apex ROW.

“Herbicide spraying is the most cost effective way to control growth and reduce outages,” said Rick Friez, Cimarron Electric Project Manager. “They will begin right of way treatments on the four substations at the end of this month or the first of July.”

Please Look Up For Power Lines this Harvest Season.

Chisels and plows are tall when folded up. Look for

Overhead Lines going in or out of a field.

Watch out for guy wires attached to poles in the field. Hooking a guy wire

can pull a power line down on top of you!

Be aware of underground wires and pad mount

transformers. They can be just as deadly as overhead wires.

A dirty air filter makes your heat-ing and air-conditioning systems and your ducts get dirty faster. This can lead to costly cleaning expenses.

A dirty air filter is the #1 reason for HVAC system failure. A dirtyfilter restricts the air flow into your HVAC systems air handler and evaporator coil. This puts added work on your fan motor and compressor to do their job.

Air filters are MERV rated, ranging from 1 to 20. This scale gauges a filters ability at catch-ing dirt. MERV 1 rated filters offer high airflow but only catch large air particles. A higher MERV rated filter catches more smaller particles but reduce the systems airflow.

Whatever the MERV rating you choose, the key is in changing those filters regularly.
