Dear friend
As your Labour Candidate in the local elections on 6 May, I hope you will once again be able to give me your valuable support to continue to represent you and all the residents of Rotherham West where I have lived and worked for over 40 years. I believe no other party works harder for our local communities. The Tories want to cut family tax credits and close our Sure Start Children's Centres. UKIP are an islolationist and a single issue party who are just obsessed with Europe and have no interest or tangible policies on local issues . The BNP are a divisive party who spread fear, half-truths and disharmony, they don't believe in equality for women, the vulnerable or disabled or anyone else who does not fit their vision of a superior race. The Liberal Democrats try to be all things to all people without any substance to their policies. In short the other parties are hostile to investment in our families and our communities. I stand for Rotherham, for local people, for local issues, for your needs and aspirations.

Below is a snapshot of the improvements and investments I have helped to secure for our area.
J a h a n g i r supported the allocation of funding for the South Street Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) which he hopes will be used by even more young people once new lighting has been installed.
The residents of Henley have long been asking for a play area but it was Jahangir and his ward colleagues Kath and John who finally made it happen by making a robust case for the play area due to be completed by the end of March 2010.
PLAY AREAS
Crime has been drastically reduced in our area by the close partnership working between the police and the council. Jahangir has made it his number one priority to reduce anti social behaviour by adopting a zero tolerance on motor cycle nuisance, fly tipping, noise nuisance and other types of crime and issues that you the residents of Rotherham West have raised with him. Neighbourhood policing has been a great success.
REDUCTION IN CRIME
Our area has been enhanced by the environmental works carried out in Blackburn with new drives and a long awaited
and asked for one way trac system. In Meadowbank with new o-road parking. In Masbrough with the replacement of lamps on footpaths. In Henley with new fencing.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKS
Jahangir is proud the Sopewell Road Community Centre is the first community building in Rotherham to be in the process of being handed over to the residents of Richmond Park. We have cut through red tape to hand over the centre to local people to run for the benefit of residents.
YOUR COMMUNITY BUILDING
Rotherham Labour Council along with NHS partners are developing a new centre for children and young people and their families in the main block of the former Kimberworth Comprehensive School buildings.
Together with the new Kimberworth Community School and the new Kimberworth Sure Start Children’s Centre we have seen great improvements in facilities and services for Rotherham families delivered by Labour nationally and locally.

WITH LABOUR EVERYONE MATTERS
I have known Cllr Akhtar for a long time and I know that I can count on him to do his very best for all our residents in Blackburn. I have brought a number of issues to him about our area and he has always done his best to get them resolved. He is always there when we need him.
Mary, Blackburn
I know that Cllr Akhtar works tirelessly for everyone in Rotherham West. I can’t count the number of times he has helped me over the years. I know that if I call him about a problem he will sort it out for me.
Barbara, Masbrough
Cllr Akhtar has been a tremendous support to our group and I can’t thank him enough for all the work he has done in Henley. I know that we would not have had a new play area in Henley without the continued support of all our Labour councillors.
Vera, Henley
I have always lived in this area and I’ve known Cllr Akhtar for many years. I know that Cllr Akhtar is committed to working with everyone in the community to improve services and facilities for every family and all our communities.
Sue, Meadowbank
I will continue to work with individuals, informal groups and constituted groups to help find local solutions to local problems. I’m very proud to be able to work with so many truly selfless people working together to find solutions to everyday problems and improve our area for all of our residents.
Jahangir Akhtar
I have been working with friends living in my area looking at ways to improve facilities for young people. I contacted Cllr Akhtar and met with him and the other local councillors to discuss these issues. Thanks to their support I am now working with others to identify funding to develop new sports opportunities in our area.
Nadeem, Thornhill
I am a straight talking ordinary working family man and I know that Cllr Akhtar is also a straight talker. He has a wealth of personal experience in the business world and I trust him to make the right decisions for me, my family and my community.
Ian, Richmond Park
Along with a few of my neighbours I contacted Cllr Akhtar about issues in my area. He put me in touch with the right people to help and with a lot of support we set up our own community group and have been able to apply for funding to help improve the area where we live for every resident. None of this would have happened without the continued help and support of Cllr Akhtar.

I promise to continue fighting for jobs for local people. The future jobs fund is already helping many Rawmarsh & Parkgate residents get back into work. I will back action to make sure people are in work, rather than
cutting this kind of help during this tough economic climate.
I promise that I will always stand up for the needs of older residents. When you have
contributed to society all your life, you deserve something back and to be treated with dignity and respect.
I promise to work with local neighbourhood police teams and residents to make sure troublemakers are dealt with. People living here
should play by the rules and respect others.
I promise to make sure kids have things to do to keep them out of trouble and to continue to fight for investment in our schools and Sure Start centres because our
kids deserve the best we can give them.
I promise to always listen, to find
out what issues are important to
you and to work hard on your
behalf. I fully support what
residents have told me in my local
survey: to improve health services
and care for the elderly, more
council homes and more police. I
also back Labours Australian style

to reduce the number of migrants.
