A Note from the Club President. . .

INSPIRATIONThere’s a welcome crispness to the morning air lately that reminds me we are approaching “the holiday season” and kicks that old inspiration gene into high gear just thinking of all the great photo opportunities coming our way... fall festivals, family gatherings, holiday lights. . . I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about.

But there are other times when we may all feel our inspiration waning, and we need to put in some extra effort to stimulate those creative juices. So how can we all stay inspired? Well, it never hurts to Immerse yourself in beautiful photography... visit galleries when you’re out of town or look for exhibits in your local area. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts frequently hosts exhibits by well known photographers. Or, take a hike. . . literally. Photo walks, field trips and safaris are a perfect opportunity to get out and about with other like-minded folks to walk and talk photography. And consider photographing something outside of your comfort zone. Do you typically do portrait work?... try some landscape, nature or architectural photography and vice versa. Yes, it takes some effort, but the results will definitely be worth it, and I’ll be looking for some of those “inspired” images at our future competitions!

Alabama Frontier DaysThe most authentic Living History event in the state, Alabama Frontier Days is a reenactment of Alabama's 18-19th century from French Colonial times to the early American period. Includes Native American reenactors, period traders, merchants and entertainers. Alabama Frontier Days is a wonderful opportunity to see the unique culture of the South as it was transformed from Creek Indian lands to pioneer settler forts and homesteads during the period of 1700 to 1820. French Fort Toulouse will be occupied by a full force of authentically costumed French Colonial Marines and a War of 1812 camp will be set up next to Fort Jackson. We have also scheduled various demonstrations and period entertainments. A partial list of the demonstrations includes:
