• Virtual Tape Libraries (VTLs) — Improve backup andrecovery performance by sending backups directly to SnapServers. VTL staging acts as a buffer, facilitates devicestreaming, and minimizes the network impact of copyingstaged data from the Snap Server to tape.

• LAN-Free Backup — Speed backups directly from serversand clients to tape drives across a backup network withNetVault’s advanced architecture. Share all library tapedrives among multiple Snap Servers. NetVault also allowsLAN-free backups by controlling the backup and restoringdata flow on a secondary Ethernet backup network.

A well-designed, distributed architecture gives BakBoneNetVault for GuardianOS the flexibility to exploit advanced datamanagement technologies, including Network Attached Storage(NAS). Some possible topology configurations:

• Local Backup — Data is streamed from the Snap Server tothe attached tape device.

• Remote Backup — When multiple GuardianOS-poweredSnap Servers are installed, data from up to five SnapServers can be streamed over the IP network to a tapedevice that is locally attached to a single Snap Server.

Improved Backup Performance ThroughVirtual Disk Management Intuitive Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape Backup Implementation

The unique BakBone NetVault forGuardianOS Virtual Tape Library (VTL)creates a virtual tape library, a virtual “pool”of tape storage, inside the Snap Server’s filesystem, whether or not a physical tape driveor library exists. Define the number of virtualtape drives, tape slots and size of eachtape, and in minutes the right size VTL isconstructed for backup volume andworkload capacity. Significantly improvebackup performance by creating anynumber of concurrent backups. VTL takesadvantage of Snap Server’s low-cost, high-performance random access disk to shortenbackup windows and enable backup with orwithout the presence of a physical tapestorage device. Minimize restore times bykeeping the most recent set of backupsonline in a VTL and migrating older backupsets to tape for off-site offline storage. SnapServers integrate a 500GB NetVault VTLlicense.

Advanced Options and UpgradesBakBone NetVault’s modular architectureaccommodates many functionality upgradesand Application Plugin Modules (APMs).Add a license key to upgrade the NetVaultWorkGroup edition (shipped with SnapServers) to BakBone’s DataCenter orEnterprise capabilities.
