Charlotte Butler - Finest Dental Patient

I felt instantly comfortable the second I walked through the door, everyone was so nice to me and took time to explain everything in detail

so I understood. I’ve always had problems with the NHS dentist as I never feel they have any time for me. But as soon as I came here I was made to feel welcome, less self concious and completley comfortable.

As part of the treatment, you will have a check-up every 6 to 8 weeks, allowing us to ensure the treatment is progressing as expected. Periodically, we will increase the strength of the Invisalign braces until your teeth are left looking uniform and straight.

Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign is virtually invisible.

REAL PATIENT STORY: Khadija’s

story

I’d developed a complex about my teeth. My front

teeth stuck out and my jaw was too small, which meant that I hated smiling. I looked

into treatment options and decided Invisalign was

the perfect choice for me. Because they’re nearly

invisible, I was able to carry on living my life without being self-conscious –

people didn’t even know I was wearing them.

Why choose Invisalign?• Nearly invisible• Improved bite• Improved oral hygiene

To date, thousands of happy clients have undergone the Invisalign treatment in order to straighten their teeth.

It’s hard to put a price on the comfort of your teeth, and of course good oral health. Patients of any age can benefit from Invisalign. It’s not just for teenagers. Although it’s always a good idea to start the treatment as early as possible, it’s not uncommon for clients in their twenties and thirties to approach an orthodontist about having their teeth straightened.

To discuss the Invsalign Braces we have available, and to talk about your specific treatment requirements, please call us now on 0808 250 0725. We’ll be happy to do everything we can in order to assist you.

YOUR INVISALIGN JOURNEY1. Spend some quality time with an experienced Invisalign dentist who will discuss your treatment options, take a panoramic X-ray (an OPG) and take some close up photographs of your teeth and bite. Using this information the dentist will then explain exactly what needs to be done to straighten your teeth.

3. Once your Aligners have been manufactured you will visit the practice for an initial fit making sure they are comfortable and then return every 6-8 weeks to receive a new set. You will repeat this process until your teeth are in their new position.

5. Once you are completely happy with your smile your dentist will discuss with you the types of retention needed to keep your teeth in place. This can be a permanent bonded retainer which is a bespoke titanium wire, moulded to the shape of your teeth and cemented behind them so that it is invisible; or it can be a removable retainer which is a slightly stronger aligner that you wear when you sleep 3 to 5 nights per week dependent upon your dentists instruction. Once you have decided, your dentist will have them manufactured for you and invite you back to have them fitted.

6. Your dentist will then book you a 3 month check up to review your smile and check on your hygiene regime. Further check ups can then be scheduled at your convenience where your

dentist will continue to look after you and your smile.

2. At this point, if you are happy to proceed, the dentist will take some impressions (a mould of your teeth). He will send this to Invisalign who will use a sophisticated software program to accurately predict the outcome of your treatment. They will then create a video of this process, known as a Clincheck, and send this back to the practice for you to review with your dentist. Once you are happy with the Clincheck your dentist will commission Invisalign to manufacture your individual bespoke aligners (clear braces) that will move your teeth into place.

4. At the end of your treatment period you will review your new smile with your dentist and, if required make any

refinements needed to complete the process

to your satisfaction.

Crossbites occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It usually causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and/or the sides of the mouth. This issue can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease and bone loss.

Overcrowded teeth occur when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can cause an increased chance of gum disease as your teeth are harder to clean.Overbites occur when the upper teeth

overlap significantly with the lower teeth. It’s typically caused by either genetics, bad oral habits, or over development of the bone that supports the teeth. This issue can lead to gum problems or irritation, and/or wear on the lower teeth and can cause painful jaw and joint problems.

Underbites occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth, usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. This issue can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful jaw and joint problems.

Widely spaced teeth occur when you have extra space within your jaw. This could be due to small sized teeth, abnormal growth of jaw bones, genetics, missing teeth and/or tongue protrusion. Spacing issues can cause some perio-dontal diseases including gingivitis and periodontitis, that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

WHY CHOOSE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

IMPLANTS

SMYLE MAGAZINE 2016 EDITION16

Next best thing to healthy, natural teeth. Strong and stable, a dental implant restores a lost tooth so that it looks, feels, fits and functions like a natural tooth. Other options can lead to bone deterioration, and may interfere with eating, smiling, speaking and other activities of everyday life.

Built to last. Dental implants are a long-term solution. Traditional, tooth-supported dental bridges only last five to seven years, and with proper care often more than 10 years, but at some point they may need to be replaced. While dental implants may need periodic adjustments, they can last a lifetime when properly placed and cared for.

Enjoy life without worrying about your teeth! No need to stay home or feel uncomfortable in public, embarrassed because your smile looks different, or worrying that missing teeth will limit your ability to join in the fun or that removable dentures or tooth-supported replacement teeth will loosen or fall out when you talk, eat or laugh. Teeth restored with dental implants never need a second thought and let you enjoy life.

Retain your natural face shape, and smile. A face without teeth can sag and appear sunken and sad. Dental implants allow you to maintain the natural shape of your face and smile.

Protect healthy bone. Leaving empty spaces in your mouth after losing one or more teeth can lead to additional health issues, such as the loss and deterioration of some of your jawbone. When it is not being used to support a natural tooth, the jawbone deteriorates, losing its strength and firmness. Dental implants are the only dental restoration option that preserves and stimulates natural bone, actually helping to stimulate bone growth and prevent bone loss.

Keep your teeth in your mouth – not in a cup. Dental implants allow you to keep your teeth where they belong – in your mouth. And no more worrying that your dentures might slip or fall out. Brush, floss and care for teeth that have been replaced using dental implants exactly the way you would natural teeth – in your mouth.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Page 17: SMYLE MAGAZINE

IMPLANTS

17

Speak easy. Adjusting to removable dentures can mean struggling to pronounce everyday words. Not so with dental implants, which function like natural teeth.

Eat your favorite foods! Taste and enjoy the foods you love without hesitation. You can bite naturally, eat virtually anything you want and, unlike removable dentures that can feel uncomfortable, you can experience the full taste of the food you eat with dental implants, too.

Stay cavity freeCavities can’t occur in an implant-restored crown, or replacement tooth; however, you will need to visit your dentist as scheduled and clean and care for it and your gums every day, the same as you would if it were a natural tooth.

Keep teeth in place – silently. Dentures may slip when you eat, talk, smile, laugh, kiss, yawn or cough, so that you have to “reposition” them back into place in the mouth.

Dental implants are fixed in place and fuse naturally with your jawbone, meaning your replacement teeth won’t move, click or shift.

Protect your healthy teeth. Placing a tooth-supported bridge, rather than an implant, requires grinding away the teeth on one or both sides of the missing tooth or teeth – thereby damaging healthy teeth to restore those that are missing. The modified healthy teeth are attached to, and support, the bridge. Dental implants go in the jawbone, in the spot where your missing tooth root was, without impacting healthy teeth. They also help prevent healthy, adjacent teeth from shifting as they would if an empty space were left for an extended period of time.

More predictable than other repair and restoration methods .

Dental implant treatment has a track record of reliable, long-term successful outcomes and is often considered “more predictable” than other treatments to repair or replace missing teeth, including bridgework, removable appliances and retreatment of failing root canal (endodontic) therapy.

THE IMPLANTS WE USE - TS IMPLANT SYSTEM

The TS Implant System is the most popular implant used by implantologists. Every medical case can benefit from a short and minimally invasive treatment which is reasonably priced and is very predictable.

The TS implants not only stands out because of the excellent design with an efficient corkscrew thread, self-tapping ability and dual thread, making it incredibly stable.

Our TS system has a morse taper connection, providing a superior connection between the implant and the abutment. There are no micro gaps which prevents bacteria access and reduces bone loss.

The feature of the platform switching and the ingenious drill concept of the Taper Surgical Kit guarantee a long term success for the stabilisation of hard and soft tissue. Every surgery can be performed with excellent aesthetic results based on the wide range of prosthetic components for the TS System.

Dental implants are small rod-like posts that act as a base for replacement teeth. They are placed into the jawbone and act like roots in that they support the tooth, denture or bridge. In all surgical dentistry treatments, such as dental implants, you will need to have a consultation with the dentist to determine the best option for your particular circumstance. The dental implant screw fits into the bone and has an clip (abutment) that the tooth (crown) fits on to. Titanium is the usual material that implants are made of, this is because Titanium has no ill effect on the human body and bonds readily with the new bone, which penetrates into the titanium surface. The implants should last a lifetime if you look after them and maintain good oral hygiene.

An Implant-supported bridge is a dental prosthesis supported by one or more implants replacing three or more teeth. Implant-supported bridges are similar to a regular bridge. Typically, when an implant-supported bridge is used, one implant is installed for each missing tooth. The supervising surgeon will then connect the crowns together to form one unified bridge.[1] Implant-supported fixed partial dentures can be either screw retained or cemented, depending upon the type of treatment strategy employed by the orthodontist. One drawback of cemented implant-supported bridges are that they cannot be easily removed as they are permanently fixed.[2] Ideally, implant-supported bridges reduce the need for “cutting down” adjacent teeth and can have a better long-term prognosis for dental patients.[3]

For a cost-effective way of replacing many missing teeth, dentures can be held securely in place with implants, providing a great improvement from traditional removable dentures.• No need for denture adhesives, pastes, sticky gum or powders.• Implants help to maintain your facial structures by preserving the remaining bone in your jaws.• Minimises wrinkles around the mouth by restoring lost lip-support• Markedly improves your ability to chew – you can eat whatever you want and enjoy your food again.• Secure and comfortable – no more embarrassing moments caused by loose dentures!A lower denture may only need two conventional implants to give a completely life-changing transformation to your ability to chew foods, and smile with confidence

The All-on-6 dental implant technique is revolutionary procedure allowing patients to attend the surgery in the morning and leave with a fully fixed temporary set of teeth in the afternoon! The All-on-6 concept was developed to enable the dental implant dentist to minimise the number of implants required to restore an entire arch (Jaw) of teeth and to enable the temporary restoration to be fitted to the implants on the very same day. Traditional implant techniques require 6-12 implants (which costs significantly more) to restore a jaw and also a period of extended healing time where the bridge cannot be fixed. The scientific idea behind the All-on-6 implant technique is that the two front implants are placed straight into the front of the jawbone parallel to the previously existing teeth whilst the two implants placed at the back of the jaw are angled at about 30 to 45 degrees in the bone compared to original root positions. This method enables the implants to provide a firm overall support and also evenly spreads the chewing forces transmitted from the denture or bridge to the jawbone.

REAL PATIENT STORY: PAULINE RHODESAN ODE TO FINEST DENTAL

After years of wearing a denture,

I plucked up the courage to try a new venture.

Because all the time it drove me mental

My husband suggested Finest Dental.

“I will pay for your impact”

That procedure - No I can’t!!

Turned up there absolutely petrified,

But Stavros set my fears aside.

Still nervous and full of trepidation

I arrived there for my first operation

The manager, Liz, always pleasant and cheerful

Calms you when you’re feeling fearful.

Ever gentle, sure and swift

(He definitely has got the gift.)

Wielding his scalpel with dexterity,

He loved his job, especially the surgery.

In his results he takes great pride

So the procedure you must abide

To improve your looks and your smile

And see you happy all the while.

The lucky few are also aided

If they are also serenaded.

He deems it most essential

To achieve your best potential.

You couldn’t have a better guide

Than so many patients satisfied.

They all sing his praises to the sky,

Never heard recommendations

so high!

So if YOU are not sitting here,

Swallowing down you fear,

And, like me, on the outside you

are shaking

And in the inside you are quaking,

Don’t be nervous, just trust in him

And finish with a cheesy grin!

PORCELAIN VENEERS can help improve the appearance of teeth that are malformed, cracked, discolored or have other types of imperfections. In most cases, porcelain veneers dramatically transform a patient’s smile, have a positive impact on oral health and gives confidence to the patient.

The Veneer Difference

If you’re looking for a new set of veneers then you will be happy to know that we’ve got a network of dentists. Veneers are an extremely popular form of cosmetic dental treatment; they enhance the appearance of your teeth without the need for painful, costly operations.

Modern technology allows our dentists to supply and fit veneers that match the rest of your teeth, for a seamless, attractive finish.

Why dental veneers?• Veneers improve the appearance of your teeth with minimal appointment times.• They’re cost-effective and pain-free.• Veneers last for a long time if cared for correctly.

If you’re conscious of your smile and the appearance

of your teeth, having veneers fitted is one of the best ways to ensure your teeth look perfect. Of course there are other treatments available out there, including dental implants – but in terms of cost and scope of treatment, veneers are much cheaper and do not usually require surgery.

The process of having veneers fitted usually requires two or three trips to your dentist. On the first trip your dentist will assess your teeth in order to ensure the veneers are manufactured to be consistent with the rest of your teeth. On the second visit the veneers will be fitted, they’re attached your existing teeth using a strong adhesive. A third visit may be required so the dentist can polish the veneers for you, and check the stability.

To discuss the Veneers we have available, and to talk about your specific treatment requirements, please call us now on 0808 278 2438 or email us as [email protected]

• You get that smile you want in a very short period of time (usually two one and a half hour long sessions).• They can strengthen your teeth.• Choose the colour and shape of your teeth• Can be very cost effective compared to other treatments• Can be a very long term solution if maintained properly • A great range of veneers available to suit different budgets

• They’re a low maintenance procedure, requiring a follow up visit to make sure they’ve stayed in place properly.• Maintaining them isn’t any more difficult than the way you care for your natural teeth—daily brushing and flossing.

Page 24: SMYLE MAGAZINE

VENEERS / SMILE MAKEOVER

SMYLE MAGAZINE 2016 EDITION24

WHY VENEERS?IMPROVED TEETH APPEARANCEPorcelain veneers help beautify your smile. Made of semi-translucent ceramic, porcelain veneers look realistic and are not noticable. Porcelain mimics the natural teeth enamel. This is impossible to achieve with other materials.

IMMEDIATE RESULTBeing a good alternative to braces and other treatment, porcelain veneers don’t require months or years to provide visible results. The procedure of applying porcelain veneers is usually done in two visits.

CHOOSE YOUR COLOURThe versatility of colour palette is another advantage of getting porcelain veneers applied. Porcelain veneers are individually designed for each patient. You can choose a colour that best fits your natural teeth. Porcelain veneers can be selected to make dark teeth look whiter with no worry that teeth will change colour in the future.

RESISTANT TO STAINSUnlike your natural teeth, veneers are very resistant to stains. Their porcelain surface is smooth and impervious. With porcelain veneers, you don’t have to worry about staining when you drink coffee, wine or other drinks or food containing natural or artificial staining agents.

DURABILITYWith proper care and a healthy lifestyle, porcelain veneers can last up to 20 years or more.

EASY TO SHAPEUnlike crowns, porcelain veneers don’t require shaping before the procedure.

Page 25: SMYLE MAGAZINE

VENEERS / SMILE MAKEOVER

25

The Veneer Difference

MULTI TASKINGPorcelain veneers may help correct several cosmetic defects at once, so, you can spend less time in the dentist chair. Porcelain veneers can be used to cover numerous dental problems, stained or discolored teeth, gaps between teeth, broken, misshapen, crooked, worn down teeth, teeth that are out of proption, etc.

EASY MAINTENANCEThe maintenance of dental veneers doesn’t involve much care. However,

there are some simple rules that could help prolong the life of your veneers. Porcelain veneers should be brushed and flossed the same way you treat your natural teeth. In time, you won’t even notice that you have veneers in

your mouth. You should also visit your dentist for regular follow-up meetings and professional polishing procedures with a special, non-abrasive paste.

For those people who suffer from grinding the teeth, there are special night guards that help prevent porcelain veneers from damage. It is also

recommended to wear mouth guards when playing sports.

Page 27: SMYLE MAGAZINE

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONSAGE DEFYING TREATMENT

JUST BECAME AFFORDABLE.

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS, also known as anti-ageing injections or simply Botox treatments, can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by using the purified protein that is produced by Clostridium Botulinum Bacterium. This reduces the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines to form over time.

Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily reduce the contractions of the muscles that cause persistent lines and wrinkles. This is a simple procedure that can be completed in only 10 minutes and can produce noticeable results within days, the procedure itself is virtually painless most patients find that they can get on with their day straight after treatment. While it may have made its name through celebrity use, anti-wrinkle injections are an affordable treatment that anyone can access. Unlike some cosmetic medical treatments, it’s suitable for virtually anyone who has wrinkles or other skin lines that they want to remove. This includes people who want to fight the signs of natural ageing, or those who’ve developed lines from exposure to the sun.

FACIAL AESTHETICS

27

How effective are Anti-wrinkle injections?

Page 28: SMYLE MAGAZINE

FACIAL AESTHETICS

SMYLE MAGAZINE 2016 EDITION28

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you concentrate, squint or frown, the muscles in your face contract. After years of frequent contraction combined with other environmental and lifestyle factors, lines and wrinkles will form and eventually become permanent. When the muscles in our face move, a message is sent from the brain via nerves to the muscles, instructing them to contract. Anti-wrinkle injectables are a natural protein that works by interrupting this process, leaving those muscles unable to crease the skin.

DO ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTABLES REALLY PREVENT AGEING?

It has been reported that, if used regularly, anti-wrinkle injectables can delay and prevent the signs of ageing. As we know facial movement such as squinting and frowning can cause lines and wrinkles. Botulinum toxin restricts facial muscle movement which means signs of ageing can be prevented.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTABLES?

Anti-wrinkles injectables are mainly used for the face. Forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet lines around the eyes, and the “11 lines” between the eyebrows are the most popular areas however other uses include lifting eyebrows, decreasing the “orange peel” appearance of the chin and lifting the corners of the mouth.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TREATMENT?

You can carry on with your day as normal immediately after leaving the clinic, although it’s important to avoid anything strenuous for 24 hours such as going to the gym. Side effects are rare, but occasionally some clients experience bruising, but this usually fades quickly. Before you leave the clinic at the end of your treatment, we will book you in for a free check-up 2 weeks later, so that we

Page 29: SMYLE MAGAZINE

can review the results of your treatment once it has taken full effect. We can also book your next appointment in 3-4 months times to ensure you maintain your new look! Using high SPF sun cream to protect your skin from sun damage can keep your skin looking younger for longer.

ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTABLES SAFE?

Anti-wrinkle injectables are made from a drug made called Botulinum Toxin which has been FDA approved and used for both medical and cosmetic purposes for over 20 years with no known adverse effects. Like most cosmetic treatments, side effects can occur, some clients report mild bruising whilst very occasionally- approximately 1-3% - experience a ‘droopy eyelid’ both however can be corrected or will fade in time. To reduce the risk of complications it is important that anti-wrinkle injectables are administered by highly qualified practitioners in a safe and medical environment.

WILL I BE ABLE TO MOVE MY FACE?

Of course! The ‘frozen’ look many of us associate with anti-wrinkle injectables is only caused when too much toxin is administered into one area. Skin practitioners target small specific muscles that are responsible for unwanted lines and wrinkles only. This means normal facial expressions such as smiling, frowning or looking surprised will be unaffected. During your consultation your practitioner will talk you through how the treatment can be used for subtle effects so no one need know your secret.

Cfast is a simple, gentle, minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that corrects alignment issues with the top and bottom front six teeth, and can level and round out the arches, thus satisfying the needs of the vast majority of adult patients who seek orthodontic treatment.

Cfast uses clear orthodontic brackets and tooth-colored nickel-titanium wires. The treatment works much like using clear aligners, but tooth movement is usually more than twice as quick.

The nickel-titanium wires put gentle pressure on the brackets to level and align the teeth with minimal discomfort to the patient.

Cfast is a fast, effective and affordable treatment when adults are seeking to correct their smiles. Because it does not address major orthodontic issues, Cfast can be done very quickly, making it more affordable than all other orthodontic options.

Cfast takes less time than conventional orthodontics because it focuses only on the “social six”, the front teeth that most influence the smile. The process is further enhanced with the use of

special nickel-titanium wires, which exerts continous gentle pressure, forcing movement in the teeth.

With clear brackets and tooth-colored wires, Cfast is barely noticeable – and worn for only a fraction of the time of traditional braces.

Standard orthodontic mechanics are still involved with CFAST, but because it’s just the front teeth, the force required is minimal. The nickel-titanium wires exert mild pressure to force the teeth to move, and this is done without the need for severe tightening which causes the discomfort noted in conventional orthodontic treatments.

YOUR C FAST JOURNEY1. Come and spend some quality time with an experienced C-Fast dentist who will discuss your treatment options, take a panoramic X-ray (an OPG) and take some close up photographs of your teeth and bite. Using this information the dentist will then explain exactly what needs to be done to straighten your teeth.

3. You will then visit the practice for an initial fit of your new C-Fast brace system and then return every 2-3 weeks to have your wire tightened and brackets adjusted. You will repeat this process until your teeth are in their new position. Your dentist will be able to tell you how long this will take.

5. Once you are completely happy with your smile your dentist will discuss with you the types of retention needed to keep your teeth in place. This can be a permanent bonded retainer which is a bespoke titanium wire, moulded to the shape of your teeth and cemented behind them so that it is invisible; or it can be a removable retainer which is a strong clear aligner that you wear when you sleep 3 to 5 nights per week dependent upon your dentists instruction. Once you have decided, your dentist will have them manufactured for you and invite you back to have them fitted.

2. At this point, if you are happy to proceed, your dentist will take some

impressions (a mould of your teeth). He will send this to C-Fast for a case assessment who will then

provide a detailed plan to straighten your teeth with the C-Fast system.

4. At the end of your treatment period you will review your

new smile with your dentist and, if required, make any refinements needed to complete the process

to your satisfaction.

6. Your dentist will then book you a 3 month

check up to review your smile and check

on your hygiene regime. Further check ups can then be scheduled at your convenience where your dentist will continue to look after you and your smile.

THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION TO REPLACING & REPAIRING MISSING OR

DAMAGED TEETH.

BRIDGES & CROWNS

A BRIDGE CAN be used to replace one or more missing teeth. They cover the gaps where the missing teeth are. The bridge is cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. These adjacent teeth act as anchors for the bridge.

A crown is placed on these teeth and a replacement tooth, called a pontic, is attached to the crown to fill the gap. Just as with crowns, you can choose the material for your bridge. Porcelain or ceramic bridges can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.

A CROWN is a cap or cover for a tooth that brings it back to its normal shape and size. Crowns strengthen and improve the tooth and its appearance. Your dentist will

recommend a crown if you have a tooth that is generally too damaged and fillings won’t solve the problem. For cracked teeth, a crown will hold the tooth together and seal any cracks, preventing further damage occurring.

Crowns can also be used to restore a tooth when there is too little of the tooth remaining to hold a large filling or attach a bridge. Also, they may be used for cosmetic purposes, to cover badly shaped or discoloured teeth.

BRIDGES & CROWNS

SMYLE MAGAZINE 2016 EDITION38

How is a crown placed? The problem tooth will require reducing down so the crown can fit over it. Then your dentist will make an impression of your teeth and gums. This is to enable a lab to make the crown exactly to suit your tooth. You will receive a temporary crown, to protect the tooth until the permanent crown is ready. At your next appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and cement the permanent crown onto the tooth.

Will it look natural? The aim is to have your new crown look exactly the same as your natural tooth. This is the reason for the impression. It allows the dentist to craft the look of your smile, he will consider the colour, bite, shape and length of your natural teeth. You can let your dentist know what look you want for your crown. Your teeth will be more attractive and stronger after the procedure.

Why Crowns & not Veneers?

A crown will need the dentist to remove more of the tooth than a veneer, so they cover more of the tooth than veneers. Crowns are usually used for teeth that have sustained significant loss of structure or to replace missing teeth. Crowns can be placed on natural teeth or dental implants.

How long do Crowns last?Just like natural teeth, it depends upon your dental hygiene and how well you take care of them. They should last five to eight years, but with good care and maintenance, most crowns will last for much longer. Things that can shorten the life of a crown include grinding your teeth, chewing ice and fingernail biting.

THE FASTEST SOLUTION FOR STRAIGHTER TEETH

FASTBRACES® Technology high performance bracket systems allow for movement of the roots of the teeth towards their final positions from the beginning of treatment by torquing them from the very first appointment.

Patients can now get results often with less sensitivity, in times measured in weeks or months. They have been developed and tested over the past 25 years and available in multiple countries around the world. FASTBRACES® Technology is fast, safe, easy and affordable. With the patented triangular design of the braces, cutting edge techniques and a special heat-activated wire, this new technology is revolutionizing the field of orthodontics by now allowing both general dentists and specialists orthodontists to offer very efficient nonextraction comprehensive orthodontic treatment to their patients.

Teeth are crooked because they didn’t erupt properly and came in tilted, sideways and not upright. FASTBRACES® Technology uprights in one stage the roots of the teeth from the beginning of treatment with just one square wire. Treatment time can now typically be completed in weeks to months instead of years.

Old traditional braces are typically square in shape and they move teeth in multiple stages. If the square braces are replaced with triangular ones, the distance between the braces increases substantially. Therefore, by doubling the distance for example, the flexibility of the square wire increases eight times (23 = 8) and thus the square wire can be engaged comfortably and easily between the braces in order to upright the roots from the beginning of treatment.

FAQ

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of. Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign depicts your complete treatment plan based on your Invisalign Provider’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position. Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth – and your teeth only – to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position. Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by your Invisalign Provider, based on your specific needs.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible. No one may even notice that you’re wearing these virtually invisible aligners, making Invisalign a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.Invisalign aligners are removable giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment by simply removing the aligners. And you can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene.

Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that in most cases less time is spent in your Invisalign Provider’s practice for adjustments.

And finally, Invisalign allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you even begin treatment so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete

Is this a new way to straighten teeth?

Dentists or orthodontists have, in the past, successfully used removable appliances for years. But with the application of Align Technology’s 3D computer technology and mass-customisation, the Invisalign System can be used to treat a wide range of patients who wants straighter teeth. The unique ClinCheck® software allows patients to see their treatment plan from beginning to end even before the start of treatment.

How old is the company?

Align Technology, Inc., the company that manufactures Invisalign, was founded in 1997.

How old is the technology?

In 1945, Dr. H.D. Kiesling envisioned that one day modern technology would enable the use of a series of tooth positioners to produce the kinds of movements required for comprehensive

orthodontic treatment. Align Technology has made this vision a reality. Using advanced computer technology, Align Technology produces Invisalign, a series of customised clear aligners. Each aligner is worn sequentially by the patient to produce gradual tooth movements in both upper and lower arches.

How many patients are being treated with Invisalign?

More than 2.5 million patients worldwide have been treated with Invisalign. The number of Invisalign smiles grows daily.

How much does Invisalign cost?

As with other types of orthodontic treatment, the cost of Invisalign is dependent on the complexity of your issue and your course of treatment. As a general rule the cost is comparable to traditional fixed braces. And, although only an Invisalign Provider is able to fully determine your cost, prices for Invisalign treatment are generally between £2,500 -£4,500. However, if only minor tooth movement is required, prices could start from £1,500.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign aligners move teeth with an appropriate placement of controlled movement on the teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign not only controls the amount of movement per aligner, but also the timing of the movement. So at each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move, as per the Invisalign treatment plan for that particular stage. This results in an efficient force delivery system that moves teeth into the desired prescribed position.

What is the minimum age of a patient that a Doctor can treat with Invisalign?

With experience, an Invisalign Provider can use Invisalign to treat malocclusion for a majority of adults and adolescents who want a better smile. For teenagers, talk to your Invisalign Provider to see if Invisalign Teen may be the right treatment option for your child.

How often must I see my Invisalign provider once I have started treatment?

Appointment intervals are generally the same as with traditional braces but can be much quicker with less time spent in the dentists’ or orthodontists’ chair during appointments as no adjustments need to be made to wires/brackets. Patients typically visit their Invisalign Provider every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned, and to receive their next few sets of Invisalign aligners, but your Invisalign Provider will decide based on your treatment.

How long does the Invisalign treatment take?

The total duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is generally comparable to that of traditional braces. Typically treatment can last between 9 and 18 months. During your consultation, your Invisalign Provider can provide you with more detailed information.

Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Some people may experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days, at the beginning of each new stage of treatment when they insert a new aligner. This is normal and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are working – moving your teeth gradually, helping you to achieve the final results. This discomfort typically goes away in a couple of days.

Does the procedure work on overbites?

An Invisalign Provider can use Invisalign to treat overbites in the vast majority of adults and adolescents . Consult an Invisalign Provider to determine whether Invisalign is suitable for you.

Are there certain conditions that automatically exclude someone from being eligible patient?

Only your Invisalign Provider can determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Are bridges a factor for Invisalign treatment?

Because bridges firmly link two or more teeth together, they offer significant resistance to tooth movement. Your Invisalign Provider will be able to determine whether bridges will be a factor in your treatment.

Are crowns a factor for Invisalign treatment?

Crowns (tooth caps) are usually not a factor in Invisalign treatment. However, sometimes small tooth-coloured composites called “attachments” are bonded onto teeth to help achieve certain movements and are more difficult to bond on crowns than teeth. In these cases, the location of crowns must be carefully evaluated. An Invisalign Provider can provide further advice.

Can Invisalign close gaps?

Yes. Spaces between teeth are generally easy to close with Invisalign. Consult an Invisalign Provider to determine whether Invisalign is suitable for you.

Will TMJ affect Invisalign treatment?

TMJ refers to the temporomandibular (jaw) joint. People with a TMJ condition can have a number of problems with the jaw joint, some of which can

FAQ’S

Page 47: SMYLE MAGAZINE

47

FAQ

be aggravated by appliances and treatments like Invisalign, and some which can improve, remain the same or even cause the condition to deteriorate. To find out if your TMJ problem will adversely impact treatment, consult an Invisalign Provider.

Once Invisalign treatment is completer is a retainer necessary?

Wearing a retainer after any orthodontic treatment is an important step, because it keeps teeth stable in their new positions. If you want your teeth to remain in their ideal position, it is best to wear a retainer as directed by an Invisalign Provider. In many cases your last aligner will be your temporary retainer, until your retention option is determined. Your Invisalign Provider can advise you on longer term retention options.

Since having my braces removed, my teeth have shifted. Can Invisalign correct this?

A number of Invisalign patients have undergone a previous treatment involving braces at some point in their past, often during their youth. Invisalign can usually correct the shifting that occurs after braces commonly referred to as relapse.

I’m currently wearing braces. Can I switch to Invisalign?

A significant number of patients are being treated with a combination of braces and Invisalign. Consult an Invisalign Provider to determine the best treatment for you.

Are there restrictions on what I can eat during the treatment?

No. Unlike traditional wires and brackets, you can eat whatever you like while in treatment because you remove your aligners to eat and drink. Thus, there is no need to restrict consuming any of your favourite foods and snacks. Also, it is important that you brush and floss your teeth after each meal and prior to re-inserting your aligners to maintain proper hygiene.

How often must the aligners be worn?

Aligners should be worn all the time during treatment, except when eating, brushing or flossing teeth.

Will the aligners affect speech?

The vast majority of patients report no effect on speech. However, as with traditional orthodontic appliances, there is an initial adjustment period associated with having something new in the mouth.

Can I smoke while wearing the aligners?

Smoking is discouraged while wearing aligners because it is possible for the aligners to become stained or discoloured.

Can I chew gum while wearing aligners?

Chewing gum while wearing aligners is not advised as gum can stick to aligners. It is recommended that aligners be removed for all meals and snacks.

What is the best way to clean my aligners?

The best way to clean your aligners is by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water and using the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals or special cleaning tablets. It’s important that you brush your teeth after each meal and prior to re-inserting your aligners to maintain proper hygiene

Can anyone have implants?

No, not just anyone with missing teeth can have the gaps filled with implants. You need to be in reasonably good health, and it should be borne in mind that smoking cigarettes can impede the healing process of the implant.

It is also important that the rest of your teeth are in good condition and free from decay or disease. If there are any existing conditions, these will have to be treated before the implant can take place.

The placing of an implant also relies upon sufficient bone in the jaw to hold it. Your implant surgeon will check this using a CT scan and, in the event of bone density being too low, a graft can be performed.

What advantages do implants have over other methods of replacing teeth?

The usual alternatives to dental implants are bridges and dentures. Fitting a bridge involves attaching

false teeth to your existing teeth. For this to work, the existing teeth have to be filed down, a procedure which can have implications for their future well being.

In the case of dentures, teeth which are attached to a metal or plastic plate are placed in the mouth and taken out each day. Dentures are frequently cumbersome and uncomfortable, and can limit the food the patient is able to eat.

Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth which, in some ways, are even better than the real thing. As well as providing an aesthetic solution, dental implants solve the problem of bone loss in the jaw, something which the alternatives don’t address.

What can I eat and drink with an implant?

Anything. The chief advantage of a dental implant is that it behaves exactly like your original tooth, meaning that there is no food or drink that’s off limits.

Is the procedure painful?

The implant surgeon will administer a local anaesthetic before putting the implant in place. During the actual surgery itself, therefore, you will feel virtually no pain. Following surgery, there will be some minor discomfort and swelling, but nothing that over the counter medication can’t deal with.

Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects associated with dental implants. Occasionally, the body may reject the implant, but on these rare occasions a second implant can usually be fitted.

How will my teeth appear whilst the implant is healing?

To cover the period whilst the implant is ‘growing’ into the bone, your implant surgeon may fit you with temporary ‘teeth’ in the form of an adhesive bridge or a denture. With this in place, you will be able to carry on with your social and

working life, as before.

How long does the procedure take?

The actual operation to fit the implant should take between an hour and two hours, after which there is a ‘healing’ period of eight to twelve weeks, at the end of which the crown can be attached to the implant.

How long does an implant last?

An implant is a permanent replacement for a missing tooth, and actually requires slightly less maintenance than a natural tooth. When cared for properly, implants can last longer than 40 years.

FAQ

What is Cfast?

Cfast is a simple cosmetic system which uses orthodontic appliances specially designed to straighten the front teeth of adults to provide a significant improvement in the appearance of their smile in a time frame of usually less than 6 months.

How does it work?

There are many ways to move your front teeth but the most common is by using a tooth coloured brace that is fixed to the front of your teeth. Cosmetic Nickel Titanium wires work in conjunction with ceramic brackets to gently align the teeth into a better position using very light forces. Because the appliance has tooth coloured brackets and wires it is very discreet.

However there are also braces that can be used on the inside of your teeth which are completely invisible as well as plastic aligners for those patient that prefer a removable option.Your dentist will be best placed to discuss with you what is most appropriate in your case.

Why is it so fast?

Cfast focuses on just the front teeth, the teeth you can see when you smile for a purely cosmetic improvement. Teeth at the front of the mouth have just one root and the bone here is less dense that at the back of the mouth. As such treatment can be concluded in a significantly shorter time frame when compared with traditional braces.

Conventional orthodontics repositions all the teeth in your mouth including the ones at the back which adds significantly to the time – usually around 18-24 months. Since most adults are not concerned about the position of their back teeth and want to avoid lengthy treatments, Cfast provides an ideal solution.

Is it better than traditional braces or orthodontics?

Cfast should not be compared to traditional orthodontics or braces. The main aim of traditional orthodontics is to move the teeth and jaws, mainly of children, into an ideal relationship so that they will function well when biting and chewing. Cfast is aimed only at adults and is carried out purely for cosmetic reasons. The alternative to Cfast will be crowns or veneers which usually involve the enamel of otherwise healthy teeth to be drilled down and as such can be quite destructive. Moving teeth into a better position avoids having to carry out other more damaging treatments.

Is it painful?

As with any orthodontic procedure there can be some discomfort for a few days after appliance is fitted. However because with Cfast the forces are very light usually after the first 7-10 days there

should be little to no pain at all. During treatment you may find that the teeth become a little mobile and sensitive to pressure. This is quite normal and will fully resolve when the braces are removed.

Are there any complications?

Not everyone will be suitable for treatment and cases are only selected where we can achieve a significant improvement in appearance in a reasonable time frame. There may be underlying health conditions or problems with some of your existing teeth which may mean that treatment either cannot be performed or needs to be modified. Your dentist will be able to discuss with you in detail about your particular situation as every case is different.

Will I be restricted in what I can eat?

If have opted for a fixed brace the it is advisable to avoid hard foods such as nuts, popcorns, crusty bread or any such foods that may accidentally dislodge the brackets. It is also best to stay away from heavily coloured foods which may on occasion stain the brace, however if this does happen your dentist will be able to easily restore the cosmetic appearance.

With removable aligners, it is best that these are removed before eating or drinking.

Will I have problems cleaning my teeth?

It can be a little more challenging to clean your teeth if you are wearing a brace. However good oral hygiene is very important during treatment and your dentist or dental hygienist will show you how to best look after your teeth as well as suggest the right products to use.

How will I know what kind of result I can expect?

Cfast can provide you with 3D computer imaging as well as models to accurately show you what your teeth should look like following the straightening procedure.

How long does treatment take?

Cfast is a procedure in cosmetic dentistry know as cosmetic orthodontics or short-term orthodontics. By definition treatment times are significantly shorter than conventional orthodontics. Treatment should take no longer than 9 months but the vast majority are complete in a 4-6 month period.

Your Dentist will be able to give you a rough idea of how long treatment will take in your case when you attend for your initial consultation.

Will I need to wear retainers?

Regardless of how teeth are moved, either by normal orthodontics, removable aligners or Cfast, if they are not held in position there is a strong

possibility that they will start to move in time. The Cfast protocol provides two types of retainers; a fixed retainer which is permanently bonded to the inside of the teeth as well as a removable retainer which is worn over night.

The removable retainer, which is worn every night is the main retainer. It is advisable that for the first year you wear the retainer every night while sleeping only and 3-4 nights per week thereafter. As long as you wear your retainer your teeth will not move. The fixed retainer is a very thin metal strip which is invisible and very comfortable. This is the back-up retainer and is there to ensure that there is no significant tooth movement should the removable retainer become lost or damaged. They can last over 2 years and may require repair or replacement.

Your dentist will explain retainers in more detail when you attend for your initial consultation.

Will I need to have teeth taken out?

With Cfast extractions are not required. Space to relieve crowding is gained by gently easing the contact points between the teeth using a polishing strip. This creates a very small space between the teeth that allow them to move and slide past each other into a more ideal position. The conservative removal of enamel between the teeth using these special polishing strips is very safe and a well-recognised procedure in dentistry and does not damage the teeth.

In rare circumstances the dentist may advocate the removal of a front tooth in the lower jaw if there is extreme crowding. However, if this is required you will be consulted fully and further special investigations will be carried out before proceeding.

How much does it cost?

Treatment costs vary and depend on whether you are treating just one jaw or both jaws and whether there are any particular circumstances which may make treatment more complicated than normal. In general the costs are comparable to other orthodontic and cosmetic procedures. Your dentist will be able to assess costs when you attend for your initial consultation.

Is the price inclusive – are there any hidden costs?

When you attend for your initial consultation the dentist will explain in detail what the price of treatment includes and provide a written estimate explaining in detail what the associated costs are. In general though the price will cover the initial investigations, fitting the appliance and all review appointments including adjustments required as well as the retainers. Extra’s such as tooth whitening and modifications to the shape of teeth following the straightening process are usually charged separately.

HOW IMPORTANT IS YOUR SMILE?Well the answer to that is – pretty important. It is the first thing that people see when you meet them. Surveys always come up with the top two things that people notice first as being our smile and our eyes.

There are plenty of celebrity examples of before and after cosmetic dental treatment, and some of those ‘befores’ are quite frightening. Do you remember what Tom Cruise looked like before he had his teeth fixed? No? Well we will spare you the sight, but suffice to say that he realised that his career was going nowhere with a mouth full of dodgy gnashers.

While you might not be getting ready to film your next blockbuster you will definitely benefit from increased self confidence if you can flash a perfectly aligned sparkling set of teeth at that next interview/party/date.

Whiter than White. This is a great quick way to brighten up lack lustre choppers. In the surgery or at home, tooth whitening has become a very popular quick fix.

Say Hello to Invisible Correction!Correcting misaligned teeth used to mean years of unsightly and uncomfortable metal braces. Not any more! With the advent of new invisible braces systems such as Invisalign the wearer can be the only person to know that they are having orthodontic treatment. So discreet are the braces that they are virtually invisible and can be taken out for eating and for a special occasion. The average time that you need to wear them is shorter too, for simple cases.

Plenty of Veneer in ‘ere! Veneers are wafer thin slices, usually made of porcelain, that are placed over the teeth in the same way as a false fingernail fits over a nail. They can cover stains, cracks and chips and even fill in small gaps between the teeth to give you a killer perfectly aligned set of teeth.

Toothless TormentLoosing a tooth can be very traumatic; losing several, especially if they are in the smile line can be devastating. In this case it is not so much about how important your smile is as it is about whether you dare to smile at all. Dentures crowns and bridges can deal with this problem but if too many teeth are missing the problem becomes one of losing bone as well as teeth and starting to look old, to boot, as the face shrinks inward without bone to support it.

Drum Roll for the Implant Please!Dental implants have been a huge step forward in orthodontic treatment, offering a patient the chance to have teeth that look and feel and, most importantly, function like their original teeth. Small titanium screws are placed in the bone to do the job of tooth roots and stop the bone shrinking back. A crown or fixed bridge will be fitted to a single or series of implants to produce a smile that has reduced many patients, who had struggled with missing teeth, to tears of joy at the spectacular end result.

Trust me – I’m a Dentist!Whatever dental problem you need to overcome, finding someone reliable to do the work it essential. At Finest Dental we will be happy to carry out a full assessment for you and to recommend a treatment that will give you that winning smile you deserve.

HOW YOUR SMILE CAN MAKE YOU LOOK YOUNGER

A bright, white, even smile need no longer be the territory of the very young or those red carpet celebrities. A smile can make that good first impression a lasting impression and white, even teeth can become a focus for others as we speak. But how can a smile make us look younger? Findings show that most people think that a smile is a good indicator of not only youth but financial success and education too!

Look Younger, Smarter and More Successful

Who knew? The fountain of youth has been in your dental surgery all the time! Oral B conducted a survey that said that a white healthy smile takes years

off us. And what might surprise you is that having cosmetic dental work, in particular teeth whitening has been found to be a more successful way of restoring a youthful appearance than having a facelift.

Whiten Your Teeth and Get the Job!

Studies have shown that job applicants are almost 60% more likely to get the job and over 50% more likely to get a higher salary offer

if they have whitened their teeth. And yes, we do know that making judgements on physical appearance are not PC but the subconscious has a mind of its own! So investing in a whitening treatment that can lighten teeth by up to 12 shades seems like a small price to pay. Whitening trays to wear at home are another option and can help to remove yellow stains in only a week. At your next job interview flash a bright, white confident smile and knock ‘em dead!

Brainy Looking Teeth

Turns out that we assume that people with straight teeth are better educated! Those people who have crowded crooked teeth or have gaps and discoloured teeth are perceived to have fewer years of education in less prestigious schools. Tooth correction can be managed virtually invisibly with treatments like

Invisalign braces. So don’t worry about those exams, having your teeth straightened will give

others the impression that you are a genius. Oh and studies show that this kind of correction

just like teeth whitening, can take 10 years off you too!

Want a date? Fix Those Damaged Teeth!

People asked about the things they find most off putting on a first date listed damaged discoloured or chipped teeth as being major turnoffs. Luckily there is an easy solution waiting for you at Finest Dental. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are fitted over the teeth much as a false fingernail fits on a nail. They can sort out many different types of tooth problems like stains, chips and even smaller gaps as well as other imperfections, leaving you date ready and looking years younger!

HOW TO GET A SEXY SMILEThere is no doubt that our smile says a lot about us and our teeth are a big part of that. We have six tips for you to make sure that you can always flash a sexy smile with healthy white teeth and feel a million dollars as well.

A Religious Experience

Just like mum used to say the only way to keep those cavities at bay is to brush and floss, religiously, every day. In fact whether it is a religious experience or not all dentists will recommend that you brush your teeth twice a day to keep them healthy and looking good and to exorcize those pesky bacteria. It’s also a good idea to take a portable version of a toothbrush and some floss with you in your handbag for running repairs through the day.

Some like it Hot…..

Switching from hot to cold is not something that our teeth like. Extremes of temperature can actually cause expansion in the tooth that can lead to cracking of the enamel. Using a straw to keep hot and very cold fluids away from teeth is a great idea to avoid shocking or even damaging your gnashers.

Keep up the fluid intake (water!)

Keeping hydrated will not only keep your skin glowing with health but it does wonders for your pearly whites too. Taking plenty of H20 on board promotes saliva production that helps in the fight against bacteria. Tap water also contains fluoride of the type found in toothpastes and mouthwashes so the best thing you can do to keep that sexy smile is to drink up!

You Are What You Eat

Your teeth certainly reflect what you eat and a mouth full of rotten and discoloured teeth is not sexy at all. Another old adage that we learned at mum’s knee - an apple a day keeps the doctor away - can also be applied to keeping the dentist away too. Raw veg and fruit and calcium rich foods are all great for the teeth but sweet stuff is best avoided if you want to avoid cavities. If you do have sweet tooth however, just make sure you brush it afterwards!

Visit your dentist

Visiting the dentist and hygienist twice a year for check ups is probably the best thing you can do to make sure you have a sexy smile. Your dentist can recommend treatments to make your smile the sexiest it can be and can check for any other problems at the same time. Catching a cavity early can mean preventing it turning into a root canal job!

HOW TO SMILE AND BE PICTURE PERFECT EVERY TIME.With instant photo sharing and selfies everywhere today, being able to produce an instant camera ready smile is essential. But you don’t have to be a celebrity to make a great looking subject for a picture. You too can have that perfect photo ready smile and here’s how -

Keep it Natural

When its time to pose just smile gently. When you do your face will look relaxed, your mouth will be slightly open and your lower lip will curve long the line of your upper teeth. Perfect! As a guide this is not the type of quick broad smile that you give when you come across a friend unexpectedly ‘cos that smile involves squinty eyes and tense neck muscles - not the best look for a photo.

Shoulders Back

When you smile do you look like you have a double chin? If the answer is yes then you need to look to your posture. Slouching or having your head tilted forward will not showcase that great smile. Instead turn your head to one side a little and then drop your chin so that you are not looking square into the camera.

Look to your Lipstick Ladies

Another clever trick for a picture perfect smile is to choose a lipstick that compliments your skin tone. Choose just the right shade of lippie like a wine, cherry red, plum, berry or a rosy pink because those can make teeth look whiter, Shades like cherry red, wine, berry, plum, or rosy pink are all good choices. Lipsticks with a blue or pink base will help you to cover up yellow stains on your teeth.

Picking the wrong colour, like one that is too dark or too bright red, will do nothing for you. Teeth whitening either in the surgery or at home can do the trick too!

Check Out Your Raw Materials.

Having a great picture ready smile can often be helped with a bit of prep work. If your teeth have gone a bit yellow with age, try a whitening product or visit your dentist for a whitening treatment. Cracked, broken, or missing teeth can be sorted too, just ask us at Finest Dental what treatments we can offer. Gums are often forgotten but they need love too. These talented supporting actors, play a crucial role in giving you your picture ready smile. Brush and floss every day as well as rinsing with a antibacterial mouthwash.

Practice makes Picture Perfect.

Having a perfect smile will not happen overnight and if you are due to attend a big photo focused occasion like a wedding or graduation then it is always a good idea to try that winning grin out in a mirror. Try seeing how it feels and looks to stand up straight, and smile that natural smile that does not look forced. Turn your head and try out different poses till you find the one that is so stunning it will stop traffic!

PROBLEM TEETH? TEN REASONS YOUR TEETH MIGHT GIVE YOU TROUBLE.Nobody likes toothache. The pain that it causes can vary a lot from something that is really quite a mild pain to something that throbs and aches and doesn’t let up. The reason behind the pain might originate from the centre of the tooth, the nerve centre, called the pulp. This nerve centre is giving you warning signals that something is not right. There are always emergency appointment slots available so that if you are in pain you can see us fast. We will be sure to ensure that not only the pain but any underlying problem is resolved.

Here are ten reasons for toothache:

54

1. Recent Dental Treatment.

If you have recently been in the dentist chair some pain in the pulp or centre of the tooth is normal as it recovers. If the pain does not go away within the time you have been told it will, we will be happy to see you.

2. Erosion of tooth Enamel.

Acids that are in your diet and gastric fluids from acid reflux or vomiting can erode tooth enamel, and lead to pain.

3. A Cavity

Many bacteria feed on particles of food that are left between our teeth. The acid produced will eventually lead to the enamel being eroded to the dentin below, and that will give rise to pain. 4. Receding gums.

If the gums recede the sensitive tooth roots will be exposed and that will cause pain. This could be a sing of periodontitis, and will require treatment.

5. Ill fitting fillings or fillings that have fallen out.

Fillings seal off areas of previous decay so if they are loose or ill fitting, particles of food and bacteria will be able to get in and cause irritation to the nerve endings.

6. Cracks, Chips or Fractured teeth.

Teeth can develop weakness because of the pressure of chewing and biting and or as a result of tooth grinding. If fractures and cracks develop in the enamel and the nerve endings are exposed, you will feel pain.

7. Periodontitis.

This is a condition that results from tissues supporting the teeth becoming infected with a plaque build up, along the lines of the gums, causing inflammation. If the infection becomes severe it may eventually travel to the dental pulp and cause severe pain.

8. An Abscess.

An abscess is a pus filled sac caused of infection. An abscess will occur most commonly in the space between the teeth and the gums or at the tooth root.

9. Tooth Grinding/Jaw Clenching - Bruxism.

This habit will put a lot of pressure on the teeth, gradually wearing them down and making the jaws very painful.

10. Referred Pain.

Sometimes another tooth or another area of the body might give rise to the pain felt in a specific tooth or in other areas of the mouth.

Never suffer your tooth pain in silence.

Get in touch and we will soon have you smiling again. A full examination will reveal

the problem and any other underlying conditions that

might need treatment.
