Mutated Kidney

This is the True or False project where we had to create a wearable sign that told an interesting fact or a story about ourselves.My fact was that I have a kidney which has an extra tube coming from it.

Lyrics Project

This was a project based on a song we picked at random, my song was ‘My Perfect Cousin’ by The Undertones. Using the song, I had to create an animation, a illustration and a typographic piece.

Typographic

This is the poster I created, I based it on the childlike feel of the song, in which he talks about the jelousy that his cousin is better than him. I portrayed this by trying to recreate the scribbles on a school textbook, the sentence is taken from lyrics in the song. The fonts ‘love ya like a sister’ and ‘mr.b’ were taken from dafont.com.

Illustration

This is the illustration I based upon my song, I tried to think of ways to portray a person as better than another through drawing.I also thought about the time around the song was created, which was during the time Margeret Thatcher was prime minister, and I felt the song could be a poke at the rich conservatives at the time, as there were a lot of punks rebelling against the government.

Animation

For this I created a story, based on the song lyrics, it showed that Kevin was richer, more attractive, and more popular. I created it using mon-keyjam software, creating card body parts.

Biennial Project

In this project, we had to look at exhibitions in the Biennial taking place in Liverpool. I looked in the galleries below, the gallery on Renshaw Street, The Bluecoat, FACT and the Tate. The exhibition I liked the most is the one above, it was called ‘Passage (project: another country)’ by Alfredo Juan Aquilizan and Maria Isabel Guadiniz-Aquilizan. I like the way the boxes form a tiny city/island, so I decided to base my final piece on this exhibition.

This is the final piece I created for the Biennial. I printed off a map of the Biennial in Liverpool, from one of the leaflets, and enlarged it to about 6ft by 3ft, and then I made a 3d version of the four galleries I visited, and placed them on the map, where they in real life. The only way to document this was by taking photos.

Graphic Artefact Project

In this project we had to create a graphic artefact eg a book, a poster, a piece of packaging, an installation etc. This artefact had to be based on an artist and an object, that we chose at random. My artist was Michael Landy, who likes to create big installation pieces, and bases his work on trying to make a statement against consumerism. He destroyed all of his belongings including his passport and car for this to make a statement. My object was a bag, so I immediatly thought of plastic shopping bags and how it carries our shopping, and thinking of how much shopping we really need. The sketches are of my ideas after researching bags and Michael Landy.

These are the developments of my ideas. I decided to create a poster, meant for a billboard or to go on the side of a building. I played with different ideas for the imagery, and whether to base the poster on a supermarket advertisement or place it in a photograph. But for the final piece I chose the giant bag, and made it to look like a Tesco advertising poster. Using photoshop I placed it on billboards and in spaces outside tesco to create a series. I would like to put it into more places.
