FACTS ABOUT RANGEHOOD PERFORMANCE

Ducted or recirculated?Ducting the fi ltered air direct to the atmosphere is preferred as the heat, humidity and odours are largely removed from the kitchen.If it is impossible or impractical to duct the rangehood to the outside, recirculation is available with most rangehoods. In this case, the fi ltered,cleaner air is recirculated to the kitchen — unfortunately, so is the heat and odours. The odour effect can be diminished with the insertion of an activated charcoal fi lter(s) above the metal grease fi lters and below the motor intake. Charcoal fi lters are not to be washed, but are replaceable.Ducting materialSmeg recommends using smooth internal walled ducting material to enhance fl ow effi ciency and diminish noise. Galvanised sheet metal and fi re-rated PVC piping plus related specialist parts are readily available from a specialist retailer. PowerDomestic rangehoods generally require between 370 and 700m³/hr extraction airlfow to cover average needs, including the occasional vigorous styles, such as stir frying. The Smeg range includes a power to suit most kitchens and styles of cooking. MaintenanceThe metal grease fi lter(s) are aluminium or aluminium/stainless steel. They are easily removed and are washable in warm soapy water. With care, they need never be replaced.
