Smederevo fortress is a beautiful building of our town. Surrounded by the Danube river, and Jezava. It was created in the 15th century!

Beginning construction of the new capital of medieval Serbia, despot wanted to create a modern capital city, not only safe military base. Gradually Smederevo Fortress has received all the relevant elements of the great medieval city. In a very short time Smederevo has become a dynamic political, church, cultural, commercial and economic center of Serbia. Therefore, according to the circumstances of creation, conception and then understanding, instead of the usual title Smederevo fortress, much better fit the concept of the city of Smederevo.

After the sudden death of Despot Stefan Lazarevic in 1427, the new ruler of the Serbia despot Đurađ Branković, according to the agreement, had to return Belgrade to the Hungarians.
