Contents page ANALYSIS

‘SMASH HITS’ MAGAZINE

Page 2: Smash hits toc analysis

The font used for the title of the contents page is a lot larger, bolder and eye-catching when compared to the rest of the text on the page which instantly points out to the reader what the page is. The font is very sharp and against a simple white background, creates a rather chic look and design to the page because of this.

Fonts and text

The same font is used on the majority of text on the page, which in some ways is a good thing as it makes the page flow and all the text and info to relate and correspond, but it also makes it makes the some important text on the page not stand out as much as it should.

The sticker used on this contents page is eye-catching and the use of language is welcoming and friendly towards the reader. The colour used almost sets the tone of the colour scheme and some other text on the page is red to relate to this red sticker.

language

‘ amazing tunes’ This is quite informal languages used, that you may associate with young people which suggests the audience the editor in chief is trying to reach.

There are many mentions and pages featuring Lady Gaga which immediately suggests to the reader what to expect the majority of the magazine to be based around.

There is a use of humour used in the editor’s note to keep things light-hearted and engaging to the reader. This will again attract a younger audience.

The imagesAll the images, although three out of four of them are of the same person, Lady Gaga, they are definitely variable as two are in concert images of her ‘in-action’ and one is at the Brit awards show. It is slightly random how they have used a photo of Christina Aguilera and I don’t think it works well considering the other three are of Lady Gaga. I’m not sure I like the choice of images used on this TOC. There are two where Lady Gaga is wearing purple in both which doesn’t look very good. All the images are of women which suggests to the reader that the magazine issue will be female dominated which will attract a male audience as well as female.
