TRANSCRIPT
Weld Tracking, Documentation, and Reports
It is important in most projects – and critical in some – to have
complete traceability of welds. Who made the weld, and what were
their qualifications, experience, and track record? How was the weld
tested and did it pass? Did it need to be repaired? SmartPlant
Spoolgen Plus can answer these questions, whether the weld is
made in a fabrication workshop, a module assembly yard, or at the
construction site. All the data can be collected in a simple, lightweight
application, and then integrated together so that the owner or main
contractor can have precise data at all stages of the project.
Comprehensive weld-map documentation providing complete
traceability for welds can be created automatically from the managed
piping data, without the need for manual input. This includes material
certificate and heat numbers, reports detailing welder performance,
weld failure rates, NDE results, and so on. Such documentation
helps the fabricator to monitor, measure, and control this critical
business process.
SOLUTION SHEET
Automated Quality Assurance Documentation
SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus supports the automated production of
Quality Assurance (QA) documentation for the testing and certification
of pipe spools in the fabrication workshop, and erection and commis-
sioning of pipelines at the construction site.
The documentation module is rule-based and supports the European
Pressure Equipment Directive and American ASME standards for
engineering design and piping manufacture. Templates for standard
configurations are available and these can be easily modified for
specific situations or project needs. By integrating the production of
documentation with the corresponding engineering drawings and data,
fabrication workflows can be simplified, data copying can be elimi-
nated, and multiple isolated in-house systems can be rationalized into
a single commercially supported package.
SMARTPLANT® SPOOLGEN® PLUSAUTOMATED QUALITY ASSURANCE DOCUMENTATION, WELD TRACKING, AND PROGRESS MANAGEMENTIntergraph® SmartPlant® Spoolgen® is a proven, industrial-strength application that enables the creation of piping isometric drawings for
fabrication and erection from the design created during the detail engineering phase of projects. Customers quote tenfold productivity gains
and the elimination of 95 percent of manual data entry. SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus starts with SmartPlant Spoolgen and adds integrated
modules for management of piping data (including pipe supports), weld tracking and documentation, progress management and reporting, and
quality assurance documentation.
As part of Intergraph’s integrated approach to procurement, fabrication, and construction, SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus works with piping data
from almost any source and is tightly integrated with SmartPlant Construction. It supports the complex, distributed workflows typical of today’s
large and mega-sized projects.
Progress Management
A typical construction project involves a complex interconnecting
network of subcontractors. Due to the volume of work and the need to
get pipe spools on site for construction at the right time, even
moderately sized projects will normally involve a number of independent
fabrication subcontractors.
It is important that progress can be reported in a transparent and
consistent way across all of the subcontractors. SmartPlant Spoolgen
Plus supports a powerful progress measurement system. By defining
specific milestones and measuring progress against them as pipe
spools move through fabrication, testing, heat treatment, surface
treatment, and final delivery to the construction site, accurate daily
reports can be readily produced. At each step, workers on the shop
floor can enter simple data into SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus, which is
rolled up into comprehensive progress summaries. These provide key
information to both the fabrication company and its customer, enabling
schedule, cost, and quality to be controlled.
Built-in Industry ExpertiseThe modules in SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus were developed by
an industry expert and follow conventional industry practices.
By combining these new modules with SmartPlant Spoolgen,
Intergraph has created a unique solution for piping projects of all sizes.
Appropriate TechnologyMany piping contractors are small and lack the IT infrastructure
that a large engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC)
company or construction company has. Being lightweight, easy
to install, administer, and use, SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus provides
tremendous value to even the smallest contractor.
On the other hand, it can handle data from upstream systems
such as SmartPlant 3D, PDS® and CADWorx® (and all major third-
party 3D design systems that use ISOGEN®), and feed forward
documents and data to SmartPlant Construction and SmartPlant
Enterprise for Owner Operators.
This means one software solution can be used on projects of any
size and complexity, and a piping contractor can work successfully
with any customer.
Proven Productivity Efficiency studies for piping maintenance projects conducted by
industry experts have shown that SmartPlant Spoolgen Plus can
reduce the time to handle a pipeline from 12.4 to 3.8 man-hours.
This covers receipt of piping data in the form of issued-for-
construction piping isometric drawings, through to fabrication,
testing, erection, and final documentation for the client.
Rapid Return on InvestmentSmartPlant Spoolgen Plus makes it possible to accelerate the
execution of piping projects at lower cost levels without
compromising on quality and accuracy, which leads to secure
creation of value and assures a short-term return on investment.
