As citizens of SMARTIA, we have brainstormed our own motto for our

2012-2013 Learning Olympics…

let’s spend some time thinking about our Smartia motto, and what it actually means in the classroom this year…* once you are in your groups of 3, label the five columns each with a word from our motto* brainstorm and write down as many ideas as possible in each column

what kind of learning/skills could we take further?what kind of learning/skills could we do faster?what kind of learning/skills could we do longer?what kind of learning/skills could we get stronger at?what kind of learning/skills could we go deeper with?

All athletes entering the Olympic Games take an OATH… a commitment that they promise to follow…

What oath will WE, as citizens of SMARTIA, commit to as we enter the

2012-2013 Learning Olympics??

Official Olympic Oath taken by athletes…

“In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them, in the

true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams."

Olympic Oaths are also taken by coaches and by referees…

as well as by Paralympic athletes…

The Special Olympics oath is:

"Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in

the attempt.“ These words were spoken by Roman gladiators as they

entered the arena, facing the greatest battle of their lives. The Special Olympic athletes recite the oath at the Opening

Ceremonies of each competition to remind everyone, themselves included, that they are part of a brave tradition

the goal is to compete with their whole effort and to exhibit bravery by pushing themselves to ever greater heights.

What classroom commitments will WE, as citizens of SMARTIA, have as our guide this year on

our LEARNING JOURNEY together??

It takes more than being a brilliant sports man or woman to become an Olympian or Paralympian. Top class athletes try to live according to a set of beliefs and ideas that help them to be the best they can be, and to respect other competitors. These are called the Olympic and Paralympic Values:
