The Smarter Balanced assessment will be administered:
Grades 3-8: Monday, April 28 – Friday, May 16
Grade 11: Monday, May 19 – Friday, May 23

Learning More About Smarter Balanced Assessment
Student Interface for Online Testing [22:48 runtime]: This module explains to District/School Test Coordinators, Test Administrators, and teachers how to navigate the Student Interface.
Test Administrator (TA) Interface for Online Testing [17:00 runtime]: This is what the teacher monitors during test time. This module presents an overview on how to navigate the Test Administrator Interface.
Learning More About Smarter Balanced Assessment
Performance Task Overview [11:13 runtime]: This module provides District/School Test Coordinators and teachers an overview of what a Performance Task is and the purpose of the classroom activity as it pertains to the performance task.
Accessibility and Accommodations [35:00 runtime]: This module is for "Special Populations" and describes the recommended uses of available universal tools, designated supports, and documented accommodations for student accessibility to Smarter Balanced assessments.
Resources for Students
What is a Field Test? [5:52 runtime]: This module is designed for students and should be shown to students in a classroom setting. It is intended to answer student questions on what a field test is and why it is important for students to participate in the Smarter Balanced field test. For grades 3-8, teachers are encouraged to be in the room to answer questions from the students as they view the module.
Resources for Students
Let’s Talk Universal Tools [14:07 runtime]: This module acquaints students and teachers with the online, universal tools (e.g., types of calculators, expandable text) available in the Smarter Balanced assessments. This module should be shown to students in a classroom/group setting. For grades 3-8, teachers are encouraged to be in the room to answer questions from the students as they view the module.
Practice test for students: Students can experience the online testing experience here.
Teacher Preparation for Smarter Balanced Assessment
To prepare for the Smarter Balanced assessment, teachers need to:
View the videos on the SPS Smarter Balanced assessment site (referenced on slides 4 and 5).
Practice proctoring the Smarter Balanced assessment on the device/s being used to administer this test.
Teacher Preparation for Smarter Balanced Assessment
Teacher access credentials will be sent to you via email from [email protected].
– Ensure each proctor and student has user name and password to the Smarter Balanced assessment.
– Once you receive these credentials you will need to ensure students with accommodations are documented appropriately on TIDE accommodation site.
Preparing Students taking theSmarter Balanced Assessment on iPads
To prepare for the Smarter Balanced assessment, students in grades 3-8 and 11 need to:Practice taking Smarter Balanced assessment on device/s being used.
– For now, use Guest user name and password.– Student-specific user names and passwords will be sent
in the near future.iPad users should be practicing using the AIRSecureTest App in guided access/locked mode.View the videos for students referenced on slides 6 and 7.
Preparing Students taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment on
PCs/Tablets/Laptops
To prepare for the Smarter Balanced assessment, students in grades 3-8 and 11 need to:Practice taking Smarter Balanced assessment on device/s being used.
– PC/tablet/laptop users should be going to the SBACSecure6.3 link which has been installed on the curriculum computers
• For now, use Guest user name and password.• Student-specific user names and passwords will be
sent in the near future.View the videos for students referenced on slides 6 and 7.
