1 Introduction SmartCapture is a Lecture Capture System (LCS) which is designed as a component of the SmartED Learning System. It allows users to record a meeting or a session for future reference. SmartCapture is designed to be configurable and flexible, it works seamlessly with the SmartED Application Suite and the VOJAS but is also capable of being used as a standalone application.

SmartCapture is capable of recording audio, video and content from the screen. It is designed to record input from two cameras, front & rear. Audio from a microphone and any content displayed on the screen. The recorded media is saved locally as an MP4 file and can be synchronized with cloud. It offers recording sessions, video trimming and can generate reports.

• Multiple Sources: Captures multiple sources such as front & rear camera, screen, audio etc.

• High Quality Recording: Records full HD video and audio and saves in MP4 format.

• Instant capture - Capture sessions instantly

• Session Management: Create, Edit and Delete/cancel sessions.

• Trim the Video: Trim the recording before sharing.

• Tagging: Add specific tags to the recordings for easy search and identification (Tags can be subject, topic etc.)

• Playback: Playback locally stored recordings through library.

• Sync and Archive: Recordings are stored locally and option to sync with cloud.

• Video Library: Overview of all captures with title, date and time, and other tags.

• Notifications: Automatic notifications through email and SMS.

• Settings: Check and configure hardware before session recordings.

2 Getting Started with SmartCapture Click on the SmartCapture application shortcut icon from the desktop. SmartCapture Splash screen will be displayed.

2.1 Splash screen

A splash screen is displayed before SmartCapture application is launched.

2.2 Home page

The SmartCapture user interface (UI) is designed to be intuitive to people in the education sector be it a student or an educator. It integrates seamlessly with the other components of the SmartED Application Suite and follows the same theme in appearance and use. The following sections will help you familiarize yourself with the SmartCapture user interface.

Home page is displayed once a user log into to SmartCapture. The components of the Home Page are described in detail below:

1. Home Menu: Come to home page by clicking this menu 2. Video Library: Access your captures here 3. Settings: Set you recording configurations 4. Help: You can view the user guide 5. Plus Icon - Record a Session

3 Before you Begin It is essential to select your default input devices and configure some other settings before you start using SmartCapture. The Settings menu provides access to these essential configurations.

The Settings page can be accessed from the Dashboard.

Following Screen will be displayed when you click on the Settings menu

3.1 Hardware Profile

In Hardware profile user can set the microphone, storage folder and mount type.

Microphone: The dropdown menu displays all available microphones. It could be built in, external, or a headset. Choose the one you want to use

Storage Folder: The default is C:\Users\Virtulive\Videos\smart-capture

Physical Mount: Specify whether the device is mounted on a tabletop or ceiling mounted to set the orientation of the video capture.

3.2 Device Check

Device Check screen allows you to test the video sources for recording.

Camera: The dropdown menu displays all available cameras. It could be built in or external (front/rear). Select the one you want to use for the capture. The window will display the visuals cap-tured by the selected camera.

App Info: Provides information about the software version.

4 Initiating a SmartCapture

a) Click on “+” option from home page. Recording screen will be displayed as shown below

b) Click the “Start Recording” button to start recording the lecture

Recording starts and the SmartCapture application will be minimizes and recording indi-cator button will be displayed. User can perform the following action in the recording indicator button:

1. Pause the recording 2. Resume the recording 3. Stop the recording 4. Move the indicator window anywhere on the screen or even to the Taskbar

c) Once the recording is over the user can click on the stop button. User will get “Save Capture Screen”. User will enter the title and tag name for that recording.

User has to provide the title of the recorded session and tags before saving the video. Click on

“Save” button to save the recorded file. The saved file will be displayed in Video library section.

5 Video Library Video Library provides access to the device’s local library and will contain the recorded captures. You can view the recordings as a list or a grid and search for tags through the Search bar.

5.1 Playing back a recording

To view a recorded capture:

1. Click on the Actions menu button against the capture line item 2. Actions menu is displayed

3. Click on Play, video is played Full screen

4. The screen will play the three video streams with one in the background and two as picture in picture. One camera capture (camera output 1) the lecturer another camera captures the students (camera output 2) and the screen (3).

5. Click on the video stream you want to make as the background. You can toggle between the video streams and screen as required.

6. Stop, Play/Pause buttons are available to control the playback 7. Click Close button to exit.

5.2 Deleting a recording

To delete a recorded capture:

1. Click on the Actions menu button against the capture line item 2. Actions menu is displayed

6. Click on Delete, a confirmation dialog box is displayed

7. Click “Yes” 8. Confirmation message is displayed

9. Click OK to close the dialog box

5.3 Trim the Video

1. Click on the Actions menu button against the capture line item 2. Actions menu is displayed. Select trim menu as shown below 3. Recorded video will be displayed with trimming option.

4. Select the starting point and ending point using the sliding bar and click on “Cut” Button to trim.

5. Selected potion of the video will be deleted, and non-selected portion will be saved in the video library.
