SILK ROADThe Silk Road, or Silk Route was an important path for cultural, commercial and technological exchange between traders, merchants, pilgrims, missionaries, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from Ancient China, Ancient India, Persian Empire and Mediterranean countries for almost 3,000 years.

Foreign merchants and monks from the West as well as officials and soldiers from central China brought their own cultures to Dunhuang and made the trading center a cultural "melting pot." Many economic, military, political and cultural activities took place at this cross-road.

The Han emperor, Wudi, needed allies to guard against threat from a strong neighbor. So in 119 B.C. Wudi sent Zhang Qian to form an alliance.

Zhang Qian's travels took him toward India. When Zhang Qian returned and told Emperor Wudi of what he had seen in these western states. He was sent back with a large delegation and items to trade. Silk was an immediate hit.

The Beginning: Xi’anXi'an sits on an ancient site. The land is fertile, renewed yearly by the silt from the Yellow River.

Trading Center : DunhuangDunhuang lies at the western end of the Gansu Corridor. The name Dunhuang originally meant "prospering, ourishing"-- a hint that Dunhuang must once have been an important city.

The world-renowned Mogao Grottoes, also known as the Caves of a Thousand Buddhas, is the largest and richest ancient art treasure in the world.

The Ancient Luntai Town, which played quite a signi cant role on the new northern route of the Silk Road in the Tang Dynasty, was a center for tax collection, management, and supply.

KONGFU PAINTING AND CALLIGRAPHY

Chinese Kongfu is classified into various styles according to di erent regions, di erent schools and families, as well as different fighting techniques. There are two most famous Kongfu scenic spots: Shaolin Temple in Henan Province and Wudang Mountain in Hubei Province.

Chinese painting and calligraphy has a long history.

Chinese characters evolved from pictures and signs, and the Chinese art of calligraphy developed naturally from its unique writing system. Through the ages, great calligraphers developed representative calligraphic styles of their times.

The roots of Chinese painting can be traced back to paintings on Neolithic pottery six or seven thousand years ago. Since similar tools and lines were used for the earliest painting and writing, painting is said to have the same origin as calligraphy. Thus, Chinese paintings usually integrate poetry or calligraphy with themes that include figures, landscapes, flowers, birds and other animals.

The Shaolin Monastery or Shaolin Temple is long famous for its association with Chinese martial arts and particularly with Shaolin Kongfu. Of the tens of thousands of Kongfu and wushu styles, several hundred have some relationship to Shaolin.

In years past, the mountains of Wudang were known as an academic centre for the research, teaching and practice of Chinese martial arts. Wudang Taiji, also known as shadowboxing, is another major division of Chinese martial art. Now it becomes a practice that promotes relaxation and relieving stress.

PORCELAINPorcelain is generally believed to have originated in China. Porcelain manufactured during the Tang Dynasty period (618–906) was exported to the Islamic world, where it was highly prized. By the Sui (about 580 AD) and Tang (about 620 AD) dynasties, porcelain had become widely produced.

How to make porcelain?

Firing

In this process, green (unfired) ceramic ware is heated to high temperatures in a kiln to permanently set their shapes. Porcelain is red at a higher temperature than earthenware so that the body can vitrify and become non-porous.

Forming

Pottery can be produced in three basic forming traditions: handwork, wheel work, and slip casting. It’s very common for wheel-worked pieces to be nished by handwork techniques. Glazing

Unlike their lower- red counterparts, porcelain ware does not need glazing to render them impermeable to liquids and for the most parts are glazed for decorative purposes and to make them resistant to dirt and staining.

Decoration

Porcelain ware may be decorated with under glaze using pigments that include cobalt and copper or over glaze using coloured enamels.

How to protect my IP Rights?

Register your intellectual property right(s) (IP rights) under your country's law. You can protect your Logo(s) and Slogan(s) under the Chinese Anti Unfair Competition Law. Try to register your IPR(s) in China as well. Small and medium enterprises should therefore always use written agreements addressing the issues surrounding know-how, trademarks, IPR, non-competition and con dentiality.

How to make sure my supplier is an authorized reseller?

Contact the owner of the brand to con rm if they are an authorized reseller.

How to protect trade secrets and processes?

When outsourcing manufacturers you may consider separating your designs, ideas and know-how amongst various manufacturers to ensure that no one manufacturer is able to steal your trade secrets and know-how. This works like a puzzle, distributing each single piece to another location to eliminate the chances of putting the pieces all together.

How to assure product quality?

Sometimes a buyer may receive poor quality products after payment has been made, but the supplier refuses to compensate the importer or does not even respond to complaints. Sometimes a supplier may send

high quality samples to the buyer but the quality of the real end product is very poor. In order to avoid poor quality, you should undertake quality and inspection before ordering, during the production process and just before the shipment leaves.

What precautions should I take before making the nal payment?

You should use the services of a credit institution that checks the background of manufacturers before you make your final payment. Always remember: No final payments unless you are certain you will receive the goods.

What has to be done if the suppliers do not deliver goods?

When failed in communicating with the supplier, keep a record of contact emails, payment bills and other valid documents to report the case to the police and also voice a complaint to local trade committee or department of commerce.

When should I be suspicious?

If the supplier avoids giving you substantive information about its company. They may act excited but vague, emphasizing what a great opportunity this is for you. The supplier asks you for up-front payment. If they request payment options other than Letter of Credit, T/T or Western Union.

Should I be wary of over generous o ers?

Yes, be wary of potential partners who offer an especially high or low price. It is easy to be tempted by such offers, but they are often attempts of fraud. In business, the expression "you get what you pay for" is often painfully true. Be especially diligent to check the contact information, identification and any claims a suspicious trade partner makes. If it sounds unbelievable, it probably is.
