An Advanced Distribution Management System
The DMS Project included: 1) Gathering and confirmation of functional, business and
technical requirements 2) Development of the DMS roadmap3) Data readiness assessment4) Business processes assessment 5) RFP development6) Technology selection & System implementation
Structure’s responsibilities included: 1) Project Management2) Development of business case and roadmap3) Development of technical requirements for a DMS
(including an interface to their legacy OMS)4) Implementation of the DMS solution, including a DMS and
the interface to their legacy OMS.
Successful deployment of the DMS Phase 1 (like for like of a legacy, aging DMS. In addition, successful deployment of the new operational and support processes. Phase 2 (implementation of smart Apps) has been approved by PECO’s Management and will start in Q3/15.
1) Accurate and complete data is required for a DMS 2) A DMS needs dedicated staff3) Creation of a clear vision and the corresponding roadmap
are key4) Early identification of affected and new business processes
is necessary5) Review of legacy OMS within the context of a DMS is key

Broad Smart Grid Program that included:
1) Development & approval process of the business case
and vision
2) Development of business case and roadmap
3) Gathering of requirements
4) Development of RFPs
5) Solution selection
6) Implementation & integration of DMS, MDM, DR, DA,
AMI, and smart meters.
Our responsibilities included:
1) Overall Program Management
2) Development of technical requirements for all
technologies (including a DMS and an interface to
their legacy OMS)
3) Implementation of all technologies, including a DMS
and the interface to their legacy OMS
• Successful deployment of all technologies as well as
fulfilment of the envisioned business case.
• Program ended on budget and on time.
• OG&E’s Smart Grid Program is widely considered one of
the best programs in the US.
1) A DMS (or any similar complex technology
implementation) needs dedicated staff
2) Creation of a clear vision and the corresponding
roadmap are key
3) Definition of success criteria to consider the
implementation of a DMS (or any similar technology)
successful
4) Review of the role of the legacy OMS
