SUNNY ISLAND 6.0H / 8.0H Simple. Robust. Flexible.More robust than its predecessors: The new Sunny Island impresses with its high protection class and wide temperature range. Moisture, dust and temperature fluctuations won’t impair its operation, even after 20 years. Thanks to OptiCool, there’s no need to compromise when it comes to overload capacity and profitability. And there’s more: OptiPower, the intelligent load and energy management system, ensures operation even in critical situations. OptiUse makes installation, commissioning and daily use easier than ever with automatic rotary field detection, an optimised quick configuration guide and intuitive operation. And the OptiBat battery management system automatically controls the most important charging and discharging procedures, which extends the service life of sensitive energy storage. Sunny Island is a truly comprehensive package for a worry-free, reliable and self-sufficient electricity supply.

MULTICLUSTER BOXES for SUNNY ISLAND 5048 For easy set-up of stand-alone and hybrid systemsLarge off-grid systems with minimum effort: the new Multicluster-Boxes for the Sunny Island 5048 are the ideal solution for the easy installation of island and hybrid systems from 30 up to 300 kW. For this, 2 to 12 three-phase clusters, each consisting of 3 Sunny Island inverters, are connected in parallel. We designed the Multicluster Box as an AC distribution center for connecting generators and to supply loads up to 300 kW especially for these systems. To simplify installation, all Multicluster Boxes are completely wired and fitted at the factory with a main connector for PV or wind generators. All communication cables required for the installation are included in the delivery.

Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort

Lady Elliot Island is one of only three island resorts on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. The Eco Resort employs a number of measures to protect the environment of the island and surrounds, in conjunction with the Great Barrier Reef Marina Park Authority (GBRMPA). This ensures sustainable operation with minimal environmental impact.

The diesel hybrid system comprises nine Sunny Island 5048’s and three Sunny Mini Central 7000TL’s. The size of the complete system has been increased with a further 8kW of REC 245 Watt panels connected to a Sunny Tripower 8000TL inverter, boosting the total PV power to 29kWp. The expansion of the system also saw the addition of 24 new German manufactured BAE Gel batteries and a further cluster of three Sunny Island 5048’s integrated into the existing hybrid system.

Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort has reduced its reliance on diesel generation from a consumption of 550 litres of diesel per day to less than 150 litres per day. This, combined with other initiatives is estimated to have reduced CO² emissions by up to 70%. This system plays a major role in achieving the goal of 100% renewable energy on the island by 2015.

Tokelau consists of three small atolls in the South Pacific Ocean. Its land area covers 10 square kilometres and it is located north of Samoa, reachable only by boat. Traditionally, all three atolls have relied almost exclusively on diesel generators for their electricity needs, but it has recently become the only country in the world to be fully powered by solar energy.

Not only is the 1MW combined system the biggest stand-alone power system on earth. It exceeds the current energy requirements of the 1,411 locals who live there and meets 100% of their climate change obligations.

The project used a total of 4,032 photovoltaic panels, 392 SMA inverters, 112 SMA Sunny Island Chargers and 1,344 batteries. A representative of SMA Australia spent almost a month in Tokelau offering training and support.

Tokelau’s diesel generators used to burn up to 200 litres of fuel daily. Now, the country has eliminated its dependency on fossil fuels and can focus on repaying funds borrowed to implement this project. The nation also plans to address priorities in health and education using the savings from fuel costs.
