firm history & culture

STRATA grew from a testing and engineering partnership established in 1974. Since then, our company continues to flourish and expand professional services throughout the northwestern United States.

Boise, Idaho is home to STRATA’s corporate office. Corporate leadership and our depth of resources supports regional office network throughout the intermountain west. Strategically located satellite facilities further expand professional alliances built on over three decades of client-focused service. Our success is based on three primary commitments:

• Add value to each project.

• Offer innovative solutions.

• Build long-term relationships.

We appreciate the opportunity to present this statement of qualifications of STRATA, A Professional Services Corporation (STRATA). Our body of work includes providing geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, laboratory testing, construction material testing, and special inspection services throughout the intermountain west.

company overview

Our unique and innovative approaches emphasize adding value to each project. For example, conservative designs for earthwork, foundations, and shoring can increase the project investment. However, our engineers - specialists in earth science - are able to offer cost-saving alternative solutions. Thorough testing and inspection is crucial to providing quality assurance and peace of mind. Our construction testing leaders take a proactive approach to meeting the needs of each unique project by offering flexible scheduling options, providing dedicated professionals, and seeking efficient solutions to testing and inspection requirements.

We offer tailored applications of material and earth science to solve problems, often without prescriptive design or testing methodology.

Architects, engineers and officials for Salt Lake City, Chevron, Verizon, Utah Department of Transportation, Utah Transit Authority, and Wasatch School District can attest to our innovative solutions for addressing unexpected challenges uncovered during construction. This distinctive ability to tailor testing and inspection methodology ably served the following projects: • Wasatch School District Bus Facility • FrontRunner South Subballast Compaction Requirements • Millcreek Junior High School Addition

• Chevron Human Resources Facility • Parley’s Creek Trail at Sugarhouse Park • Salt Lake City Regional Athletic Center • Kemmerer Airport Apron Rehabilitation • Guernsey Tunnel 70-degree Slope Stabilization • Portneuf Medical Center Complex

“I’ve found having STRATA involved from project conception throughout construction has provided a valuable asset--geotechnical design continuity. STRATA’s engineers have the experience and site knowledge to make rapid, effective recommendations during construction pertaining to site conditions and project specifications.” Mr. Chip Tull, Project Engineer Hoffman Construction

Geotechnical engineering design is accomplished by incorporating detailed knowledge and composite data of the geological conditions unique to each project. STRATA’s geotechnical engineers’ strong and direct interaction with team members, especially owners, is integral to fluid progress from design phase to construction phases. Timely decisions made during earthwork can lead to cost savings for the ownership team and reduce rework.

Because consultation during construction is part of the geotechnical design process, we offer a service continuum from geotechnical design through construction material testing and inspection. Engineering excellence is the centerpiece of our geotechnical approach.

Geotechnical engineering evaluates how subsurface conditions will impact the project. Our geologists and engineers utilize conventional exploration methods and advances in technology to characterize the subsurface aspects of each project site. Accurate subsurface characterization is critical to all aspects of geotechnical and related design. Our geotechnical services include:

• Shallow/Deep Foundation Design • Slope Stability Analyses • Retaining Structures/Shoring• Ground Improvement/Stabilization • Pavement Design • Geohazard Evaluations• Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering • Forensic Investigations
