Slippurinn Akureyri ehf is the biggest shipyard and metal working company
in Iceland with long experience in re-building and converting of all kind of fishing
vessels from small wooden cutters up too modern freezer trawlers. Today the main
activities are in the field of ship repairs, steel constructions, general metal works
and mechanical engineering. In 2007 Slippurinn bought the company DNG where
jigging reels are produced. DNG was merged into Slippurinn in 2008.

Slippurinn Akureyri ehf. produces DNG fishing systems. The DNG computerized jigging reel is a fully automatic fishing device. It pays out the line and detects when the sinker hits the bottom, positions the hooks at a desired depth and performs jigging action customized by each individual user. The user can customize jigging speed, frequency and type. The reel detects fish biting the hooks and hauls the catch up to the surface. The user fully controls all parameters of the jigging and can also set additional parameters of relating to weather, ocean currents and bottom conditions. The DNG jigging reel has many different fishing methods in fixed memory, aimed to fish species such as cod, pollock, mackerel and squid. The user can design his own methods and store them in the memory. The DNG jigging reels are capable of communication and completely waterproof.

Akureyri is situated in north-east Iceland, in one of the longest fjords in the country and is surrounded by mountains reaching 1000-1500 m.
