Slip-on, Wire-Wrap ®, TERMI-POINT ®Special connection terminal blocks
General information
In measurement and regulationsystems, the conductor crosssections range mainly up to 1 .5 mm 2 .In addition to the "linear connectionarrangements " , i .e . the commonterminal strips with compact andnarrow modular terminal blocks, forexample with a screw connection,"two-dimensional arrangements "have become increasingly popular,i .e . connection fields withappropriate front connectiontechniques . These connectionsystems are : Slip-on, solder, spring-cage termination, wire-wrap and clipconnection.
Phoenix Contact offers amanifold selection of variousterminal block models and specialconstructions for the interface areabetween electrics and electronics as
well as for marshalling distributors. This means that the required wiringtechniques can be optimally adaptedto the circumstances of installation.
The marshalling plugs provide ahigh packing density with differentconnection methods . The simplemounting and convenient operationallow practical wiring and ensurereliable contacting of theconductors.
We are always willing to adviseyou on individual developments tohelp solve any special problems.

Slip-on connectionThis connection method, which
has been introduced worldwide andstandardized in accordance withEN 61 210/VDE 0613-6, involvescrimping a slip-on connection sleevewith a corresponding cross section onthe stripped conductor end . Contactis made by pushing the slip-onconnection sleeve onto the slip-onblade . In order to provide a goodconnection, attention must be paid tothe size of the connection sleeve, theconductor cross section and the die ofthe fabrication tool.
To support the conductorinsulation, it is crimped together withthe conductor to ensure strain reliefbetween conductor and connection .
Solder connectionThe solder connection has its
origin in communication engineeringand is nowadays still used inmeasurement and control plants . Inthe case of the manually solderedPhoenix Contact solder terminalblocks or solder connectors, thematerial, the shape and thepreliminary tin-plating of the solderingtags fulfill the prerequisites for a goodsolder connection.
The hole in the soldering tag orsoldering basin not only facilitateswork with the soldering iron and tin-lead soldering, but also provides theessential mechanical strain relief of theconductor or the soldering point .
Coil connection Wire-Wrap ®This kind of connection requires
that solid strand conductors arecoiled round a sharp-edged, angularor rectangular pin by means of amotor-driven pistol . The highpressure at the pin corners ensuresgas-tight contact points.
The coil connection is standardizedin accordance with IEC 352-1/DIN EN 352-1 . 4 to 8 coils with aconductor diameter of between0.2 and 0 .8 mm (AWG 30-20) arenecessary for a perfect connection.
TERMI-POINT ® clip connectionIn the case of clip connection in
accordance with DIN 41 611-4, singleor multi-core conductors up to0 .5 mm 2 (AWG 20) are stripped inone operation by means of apneumatically-operated special tooland are shot with a clip onto therectangular pin so that they are gas-tight.
The clip and the connection pinhave to meet high standards withrespect to mechanical stability, lowdimensional tolerances and exactsurface treatment .
Spring-cage connectionAs in the case of the modular
terminal blocks with spring-cageconnection, a friction-locked contactbetween the conductor and thecurrent carrying metal part is alsoguaranteed for the marshalling plugswith spring-cage connection.
While solid conductors larger than0 .75 mm 2 can be connected by simplypushing them in, thin or strandedconductors are inserted after pushingdown the orange opening lever. Theconductors are always disconnectedby actuating the opening lever. Wire-Wrap' - registered trademark of

The special feature of the VBST 4-FS(6-2,8-0,8) is the gold-plated contact pinfor the central insertion of a 10-positionmodule plug . This gives the terminalblock the additional function of a plug-incoupler, making it possible to connectsingle control subassemblies to theterminal strip in a flash . The module plugis supplied by AMP Deutschland,www.amp .com. The AMP type

12 VKK 4-FS
This terminal block is designed formultiple connections in a restricted space.
On the one hand, it has screwconnections for 4 mm 2 strandedconductors, and on the other hand, itpermits the connection of one 6 .3 mmslip-on sleeve or two 2 .8 mm slip-onsleeves . In addition, it is possible to connectpolarized STG . . .-VKK multi-positionmodule plugs on both levels and on bothconnection sides (instead of the 2 .8 mmconnection sleeves).
Due to the closed insulation housing, anend cover is no longer required as anaccessory. The terminal block is 7 .62 mmwide in accordance with the pitchdimension of the multiposition moduleplugs . There is a slight level offset within thehousing between the upper and the lowerlevels to improve accessibility to the lowerlevel . The housing shows no level offsetexternally. Also to improve handling, theoffset on the screw side is greater than onthe slip-on connection side.
The terminal blocks are suppliedinterlocked, i .e . as quick-mounting blocks of10 which snap onto the NS 35/7,5 DIN rail.
The outgoing conductors can bearranged on the slip-on connection side inguide lugs . In addition, the housing hasangled slots in this area for mounting flatplug potential busbars.
The modules are labeled using the10-section Zack marker strip ZB 7,62 withvertical printing. Group labels and/orsection formation is possible by means ofthe 1 .5 mm thick group marker plate,SAD-VKK 4 .

Universal terminal blocks forscrew and solder connection
UK 2,5 typesThe soldering tags are in a zigzag
arrangement in order to increase themutual insulation spacing and to improveaccessibility with the soldering iron . Thesoldering tag dimensions are 2 .8 x 0 .8 mm,which means that a common connectionsleeve in accordance with DIN 46 247 canalso be pushed on.
The soldering tags have a 1 .2 mm 0external hole in which solid connectingconductors up to 1 .5 mm 2 can bepositioned and soldered to provide strainrelief. Behind the hole there is a notch . Thismakes it easier to wrap thin connectingconductors or establish bridgingconnections to neighboring terminal blocks.
An important prerequisite for correctsolder points is for the heat provided by thesoldering iron not to be "absorbed " by thesubordinate metal parts . This is particularlyimportant for thin connecting conductorswith sensitive insulation . For this reason thesoldering tag has an internal heat bottleneckwith low thermal capacity at the end . At thispoint, it also has a 2 .3 mm 0 socket hole, enabling a test plug to be inserted fromabove for voltage connection (through thescrew shafts).
UK 4 typesThese terminal blocks are designed for
large connection cross sections and avariety of circuitry options.
The robust soldering flags allowconnecting conductors of up to 2 .5 mm 2 tobe soldered on with strain relief.

Terminal blocks for Wire-Wrap® and TERMI-POINT®connections
With the Wire-Wrap"' connectionprinciple, it is possible to connect up to 3conductors per plug . Two pin dimensionsare common : 1 x 1 mm and 0 .6 x 0 .6 mm.The length of the pin is usually measured forthree coils. The connection must be brokento release it and in this case it is destroyedfor ever.
German suppliers of wrapping tools are:Cooper Tools GmbH,74354 Besigheim, GermanyPhone :++49/71 43/58 00Fax :++49/71 43/58 01 08
The TERMI-POINT® versions aredifferentiated according to the position ofthe plug, which is either longitudinal ortransverse to the terminal block . In order toensure easy handling of the tool, thelongitudinally arranged pins should be usedfor vertically mounted terminal strips andthe transverse pins for the horizontallymounted terminal strips.
The length of the pins is usuallydimensioned for shooting on 3 connections. The pins are available in the followingdimensions:
0.6 x 0 .6 mm . . . Mini TERMI-POINT®0.8 x 1 .6 mm . . . Standard TERMI-POINT®0.8 x 2 .4 mm . . . Maxi TERMI-POINT®

Marshalling plugs
~,a~":AMRO O O
General informationHigh packing density, a practical
connection principle and easy mounting arethe main features of these marshalling plugs.
In accordance with the 8-bit pattern, 10rows of 8 chambers are arrangedhorizontally in the marshalling plug housing.
The marshalling plugs are available withthe following connection techniques andcombinations of these:
6 .3/2 .8 mm plug-in connectionSolder connectionWire-Wrap' (WW) connectionTERMI-POINT (TP) connection andSpring-cage connection.Each marshalling plug element can be
marked with the standard labels, while theindividual chamber coordinates are markedwith marker pins.
The potential busbar is subsequentlyinserted in grooves in the fitted marshallingplug blocks . This allows the referencevoltage levels such as supply voltage, controlground or shielding to be comfortablysupplied at any point .

The RV 4 elements can be used to formfrontal pin field connections for 2 .4 x 0 .8TERMI-POINTC'(TP) connections . The4-position incoming and outgoing lines aremirror images of each other due to theU-shaped design of the metal pin, thusproviding clear wiring of multiconductorcables twisted in groups of 8 . The pin lengthis sufficient for three clip connections oneabove the other.
Yellow and gray housings are alternatedin pairs in order to visually emphasize thegroups of twists of 8 . Eyelets on the side ofthe housing facilitate tidy cabling.
Plug connections are realized with theaid of module socket contacts and moduleplug housings, whereby a maximum of 8positions can be combined in functiongroups . These are protected againstmechanical stress by the strain relief, STGZor STGZ 1.
Plug connections for RV 4, RV 8 andRVS 10 marshalling distributors
Plug-in connections are effectively madeusing the socket contacts and module plughousings allowing 16 positions max. to becombined in function groups . These areprotected against mechanical stress bymeans of the strain relief, STGZ, STGZ 1and STGZ 10-RVS and STGZ 20-RVS or thecable housing, KGS-RV 10 or KGS-RVS 10 .

Miniature circuit-breakers
Circuit-breakers with electronictriggering
The electronic triggering of the ECP isspecially designed for the selectivesafeguarding of all load circuits that aresupplied by a DC 24 V power supply unit.
Switched-mode power supplies switchoff their output and all connected loads fortheir own protection as soon as an overloador short circuit occurs in a load branch dueto a fault.
In this context, selectivity means thatthe ECP reacts more quickly to theoverload or short circuit conditions in aload circuit than the switched-mode powersupply does and therefore only switches offthe faulty circuit.
Miniature circuit-breakers withthermomagnetic triggering
The combination of thermal andmagnetic triggering effectively protectsagainst overload as well as short circuits.Short circuit currents cause the magneticpart of the characteristic curve to operatealmost without delay. Typical applicationsare in the area of information andcommunication technology, processcontrols, and with devices and systems thatrequire a high degree of protection againstoverload and short circuits . Allthermomagnetic circuit-breakers haveintegrated auxiliary contacts for individualmonitoring of the switching status .
Signaling contactsSocket base TMCP-SOCKET-M allows
individual signaling via the connections 11and 12 . The signal can be called upseparately for each circuit-breaker. A signalloop over all circuit-breakers can be realizedquickly and without additional wiring viaconnections 13 and 14 in the terminationelements ; all electrical connections of themain contacts and signal contacts arelocated in the socket element . (see TMCPwiring diagram)
Backup fuseA backup fuse together with a circuit-
breaker must always be used if there is therisk of the maximum switching currentbeing exceeded in the event of a fault . Themaximum switching current, the internalresistance and the resulting backup fuse areshown in the table below.

Miniature circuit-breakers withthermal triggering
The thermal triggering of equipmentcircuit-breakers depends on the level of theoverload current . This makes them ideallysuited as device protection for AC and DCconsumers, e .g . to protect motors, transformers and actuators againstoverloads . The equipment circuit-breakerTCP can be inserted in basic terminal blocksand thus mounted on rails . An integratedswitching function (press/press actuation)ensures high availability and high flexibility ofthe system.
Power distribution through socketassembly
The thermomagnetic circuit-breakerTMCP and the electronic circuit-breakerECP are characterized by their user-friendlymodular design . The TMCP-SOCKET-Msocket element is used to mount the circuit-breakers on rails, allowing flexibleinstallation with any number of positions . Inaddition, a free combination of the twocircuit-breaker types on one module allowsindividual protection, regardless of whichload is to be protected . The terminationelements TMCP-CONNECT-LR areattached at the beginning and end of themodule structure.

Selective circuit-breaker, ECP
The new electronic circuit-breaker ECP3-6 with a width of only 12.5 mm selectivelyprotects all 24 V DC load circuits — with a
Nmbination of active electronic currentcitation and proven circuit-breaker
technology including electrical isolation. The ECP 3-6 can be plugged onto theproven TMCP-SOCKET-M socket elementwhich guarantees fast and easy mounting aswell as a reduction in logistics costs.
The area of application for the ECP 3-6extends to all aspects connected with thepower supply unit, since in the case of anoverload, power supply units reduce theoutput voltage . As a consequence, theconnected loads would no longer besufficiently supplied . This means that if afault occurs in one consumer of a system, the voltage will break down in all loadcircuits.
The ECP 3-6 solves this problem byalways limiting the maximum possiblecurrent to 1 .8 times the value of the setnominal current . Capacitive loads can thusbe switched on, loads, however, are onlyswitched off in the case of an overload orshort circuit.
An LED and integrated signal contactsindicate the operating and error states.
