PMIPv6 Local Routing
draft-krishnan-netext-pmip-lr-02
PMIPv6 Local Routing | Suresh Krishnan | IETF78 | 2010-07-27 | Page 2
Background
› Individual draft produced by the merger of various solution drafts
› Reflects author and working group consensus as of IETF77› Covers 3 LR scenarios A1, A21 and A12› Does not cover LR scenario A22 since there is no defined
PMIPv6 mechanism for inter-LMA communication

What has changed
› Added clearly defined rules for who initiates LR.› Detailed list of options included for each message used for
establishing LR– For each of the supported scenarios
› Allowed infinite lifetime for bindings– In this case LR can be stopped by sending an LRI with the ‘S’ bit
set.
› New MAG IPv6 address option added to convey IP address of one MAG to another.
› Scenario A22 explicitly excluded– LR will be dropped when one of the supported scenarios turns into
A22

Way forward
› Request adoption as working group item› Address pending reviews from Marco Liebsch, Paulo
Loureiro and Qin Wu.› Solicit more reviews.
