In 1984, SLEMA was founded to fulfil five main objectives given in Article 2 of SLEMA

Participants expressed their views on revisiting SLEMA’s objectives, engaging the members

for SLEMA activities, capacity building of the members and improving the visibility of SLEMA.

The board of directors agreed to follow-up on the ideas that emerged at the session and

prepare an action plan for implementation of the decisions.

SLEMA Annual Field Visit

Every year, SLEMA organizes a field visit for its

members and their families. Accordingly, Annual

Field Visit 2019 was made to the resort hotel

Jetwing Lake, Dambulla on 23rd

and 24th

November 2019. Participants were able to see

and learn about the bifacial ground mounted

solar PV system, the cinnamon wood fired

steam boiler, the absorption chiller, the solar

powered hot water system, the biogas system

with solar thermal concentrator and many other

energy efficiency and management

improvement installations operational at the

hotel.

Destination of the 1st day of the visit was

Sundaras Resort & Spa in Dambulla. The

team visited attractions near Dambulla on

the 2nd

day before heading back to

Colombo after successfully completing

the field visit.

Energy Quiz Winners Visit Hambantota Solar Power Plant

SLEMA publishes an energy quiz for children of ages 12 to 15 years in the ‘Funday Times’

segment of the Sunday Times newspaper. Three winners from each energy quiz were

selected. A visit to the Hambantota Solar Park of Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority and

the 10 MW Saga Solar Power Plant was arranged for the quiz winners and their parents on 7th

December 2019.

The participants gained a wealth of knowledge from this field visit. SLEMA plans to continue

the energy quiz programme in 2020.

Mr. Shavindranath Fernando was Inducted to AIT Hall of Fame

Mr. Shavindranath Fernando, a past

president of SLEMA was inducted to Asian

Institute of Technology, Bangkok (AIT) Hall

of Fame on 24th October 2019 by Her Royal

Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

of Thailand.

He is the only Sri Lankan to be honoured

from more than 3,000 Sri Lankan alumni

among over 24,000 AIT alumni.

SLEMA congratulates Mr. Fernando on this

achievement!

Articles on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in Vidusara

Mr. Sudeepa Lakshan, a member of SLEMA is publishing a series of articles on energy

efficiency and conservation in Vidusara Science Magazine which is being published every

Wednesday. The articles provide energy saving tips to help reduce expenditure on household

energy use. SLEMA encourages all members and their families to read this series of articles.

Question: What are the instruments

available in SLSEA instrument bank? How

much does SLSEA charge per instrument

per day?

Answer: The list of available instruments with

relevant fees are given in below table.

Please note that above fees are applicable to

those who are registered with Sri Lanka

Sustainable Energy Authority, in the field of

Energy Management (ESCOs, Energy

Managers and Energy Auditors).

Question: How many consecutive days

can a person keep instruments?

Answer: SLSEA provides the instruments for

a period of one week, and the instruments

can be kept more than one week by providing

a written request.

Question: Does SLSEA provide resource

persons to fix and operate instruments on

request?

Answer: Yes, SLSEA will provide a resource

person to fix and operate the instruments on

request.

Question: What is the instrument hiring

procedure?

Answer: A request letter can be sent by

email or post. After approving the request,

payment can be made at SLSEA. Instruments

will be issued on the same day.
