What is a living-learning

community?

A living-learning community is a group of students in the same residential area who interact academically and socially with each other, staff, and faculty. Students in these communities participate in numerous activities that allow them to explore their shared area of interest.

What is the SLC? The Service Learning Community is a group of first-year students who share a common interest in service learning. As a floor, we create life-long bonds while learning to exam-ine the meaning of our service. We strive to make service an integrated part of life. The SLC is also a great starting point for leadership oppor-tunities on campus, especially with Elon Volunteers! and other service-oriented groups. The SLC is a diverse group of people who have different interests, ma-jors, familiarity with service, and much more. Our dynamic communi-ty makes the SLC unique to the Elon experience and encourages stu-dents to develop personal and organizational ties that will last throughout their years at Elon.

“I love the SLC because I have found I need two things in college to be happy: a sense of community and opportu-nities to help others. The SLC provides both, a feat which no other opportunity on campus can say. In short--the SLC is about doing two things: making us smile and spreading that smile to others.”

—Will, Former SLC Leader

“The best choice I made when entering Elon was choosing to be in the Service Learning Community. I know that the second I enter the hall, I will be greeted by a family who loves me. Each person on this hall is driven, sincere, caring, and genuinely wants to make a difference in the world.” -Eryn, Former SLC member
