SKYRANGER OA-X2 LIGHT-ATTACK AIRCRAFT 27 July 2017

Puma Aero Marines Skyranger OA-X2 is to perform light attack, armed reconnaissance, counter-insurgency (COIN) and military flight trainer, available at a very low cost compared to similar aircraft. The Skyranger is a light attack aircraft that carries a big punch; she is built with the ability to mount the M-61 Vulcan 20 mm cannon on the center line under the chin, which is capable of an extremely high rate of fire.

This low cost, extremely reliable aircraft has great performance and pilot visibility for counter-insurgency missions. This design is perfect for operational requirements for conducting counter-insurgency missions at hot high altitudes, flying low through mountain valleys and over the jungle.

The fuselage is based on the Puma Aero Marine “Boss” UAV-VTOL. The fuselage has a welded aluminum frame and Kevlar” carbon fiber with Core-Cell hand lay-up vacuum infused skin and panels. The tail booms and vertical stabilizer are Kevlar” carbon fiber with Core-Cell, which is vacuum infused. The wings and horizontal stabilizer are of aluminum. All for very low maintenance and a long life.

History In addition to fulfilling the requirements of a much-needed military trainer, in 2009 the United States Air Force Light Attack/Armed Reconnaissance program was born. Because of the requirement for a new, very close air support aircraft which was suited for combating gorilla and insurgent forces in urban environments being faced in post 2003 Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa and South America. The close air support role was carried out by several different aircraft, including the A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog), the F-16 Fighting Falcon, AF-18 Hornets and the F-15 Strike Eagle. While all of these aircraft are capable of close air support, only the A-10 was purpose built for the type of support needed by ground troops in a "low intensity conflict," or COIN (COunterINsurgency), operation. The United State Air Force is just starting to evaluate the Light Attack/Armed Reconnaissance aircraft and initially requires 300 of this aircraft.

Engine GE-93: • This new advance turbine engine features an industry-best 16:1 overall pressure ratio (OPR), enabling the engine to achieve up to 20%

lower fuel burn and 10% higher cruise power compared to competitor offerings, in the same size class with 4000-6000 hour MTBO and class-leading performance retention.

• New design and manufacturing technologies leveraged from GE’s latest military and commercial engines – such as 3D aero compressor designs derived from its newest commercial engines and additive manufacturing capabilities pioneered by the best-selling CFM LEAP turbofan – help GE’s advanced turboprop to extend time between maintenance overhauls up to 30% more than existing engines.

THE SKY RANGER OA-X2 LIGHT ATTACK/ARMED RECONNAISSANCE MEETS USAF REQUIREMENTS

Puma Aero Marine’s Sky Ranger OA-X2 Light Attack/Armed Reconnaissance (LAAR) aircraft meets and/or exceeds the key requirements, including: • Rough field operations. The RFI requires that the aircraft be capable of operating from semi-prepared runways such as grass or

dirt surfaces. • Defensive package. The aircraft will have to include several defensive measures, including a Missile Approach Warning

System (MAWS), a Radar warning receiver (RWR), and chaff and flare dispensers. • Armored cockpit and engine.

• Long loiter time. The aircraft must be able to fly 5-hour sorties (with 30-minute fuel reserves).

• Range: The aircraft must have a 900 nautical mile (1600 km) ferry range.

• Data link capability. The aircraft is required to have a line-of-sight data link (with beyond line-of-sight desired) capability of transmitting and receiving still and video images.

• Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. The aircraft will have to laser track and designate targets, as well as track targets using electro-optical and infrared video/still images.

• Weaponry. The LAAR aircraft will need at least 4 weapons stores, capable of carrying a variety of weapons, including 500 lb bombs, 2.75-inch rockets, rail-launched missiles, and illumination flares. The aircraft will also be capable of aerial gunnery, either with an integrated or pylon mounted gun.
