Setup Skype Meeting Broadcast using SfB Server 2015 / Lync Server 2013 On-Prem

organization

Assuming you have Skype for Business 2015 / Lync Server 2013 On-Prem environment

and want to use Skype Meeting Broadcast.

What is the Skype Broadcast meeting?

Skype Meeting Broadcast is just another Skype for Business online meeting however

these meetings hosted on dedicated pool server on Microsoft hosted dedicated

infrastructure. Most important is attendee will get media stream that is close to their

geographical location which reduce the network issues.

As per Microsoft Skype Meeting Broadcast allows organizations to host events for up to

10,000 people, and have them view the meeting online live via any browser. This

feature enables you to schedule, produce, and broadcast meetings or events to large

online audiences. Attendees can join from anywhere on any device, and engage in the

meeting.

Office365 License requirement for Skype Meeting Broadcast:

Skype Meeting Broadcast is an online service that is part of Office 365. So you have to

have one of the following licenses in order to use Skype Meeting Broadcast:

Skype for Business Online Standalone Plan 2 (or 3).

Enterprise E1, E3, E4 or E5 - which contains the Skype for Business Online

Standalone Plan 2 license.

Step1: Provision your on-perm environment for Skype Meeting Broadcast.

1. First Setup your On-Prem SfB/Lync environment as Hybrid using Office 365

tenant.

2. On-premises customers must have established an online tenant and Sync your AD

accounts to Office365 tenant using ADFS.

Note: You should configure directory sync to make user accounts and DL

memberships available to the Skype for Business Azure Active Directory in order

to enable user authentication and meeting authorization using group

membership. Skype Meeting Broadcast producers cannot be enabled for modern

authentication.

3. Then assign appropriate license to user account who are going to schedule and

present Skype Meeting broadcast (in my case I am assigning E3 and sublicense as

Skype for Business Online (Plan 2) to my users to use Skype Meeting Broadcast)

Once you are seeing all you AD users and DL to O365 tenant then configure your

on-premises Skype for Business / Lync Server 2013 environment for Skype

Meeting Broadcast.

Step2: Configure federation with Skype for Business online for Skype Meeting

Broadcast.

1. Start the Skype for Business Server Control Panel and select External Access on the left.

2. Select SIP Federated Providers and click New. 3. Configure the new provider with the following settings:

Enable communications with this provider:

Selected

Provider name: LyncOnlineResources

Access Edge service (FQDN): sipfed.resources.lync.com

Default verification level: Allow users to communicate with everyone using this provider.

Using Lync control Panel: Lync Server 2013 control Panel > Federation and External Access > SIP Federated Providers > New Fill above information.

You can also enable federation with Skype for Business Online resources by running the following cmdlet in the Skype for Business Server Management Shell:

New-CsHostingProvider -Identity LyncOnlineResources -ProxyFqdn sipfed.resources.lync.com -VerificationLevel AlwaysVerifiable -Enabled $True -EnabledSharedAddressSpace $True -HostsOCSUsers $True -IsLocal $False

4. You need to add SIP Federated domains to the allowed domain list. These domains are for the regional data centers used in Skype for Business Online.

1. Start the Skype for Business Server Control Panel and select External Access on the left.

2. Select SIP Federated Domains and click New. 3. For the Domain name (or FQDN):, enter the domain, repeating this

procedure for each of the following domains: o noammeetings.lync.com o emeameetings.lync.com o apacmeetings.lync.com o resources.lync.com

You can also configure the external access for SIP federated domains by running the following cmdlets in the Skype for Business Server Management Shell:

o New-CsAllowedDomain -Identity "noammeetings.lync.com" o New-CsAllowedDomain -Identity "emeameetings.lync.com" o New-CsAllowedDomain -Identity "apacmeetings.lync.com" o New-CsAllowedDomain -Identity "resources.lync.com"

Step3: Now time to enable your Office365 Tenant for Skype Meeting Broadcast.

If you don’t enable your Skype Meeting Broadcast for EnableBroadcastMeeting then

you may see below error when you schedule Skype Meeting Broadcast.

First make sure you open Windows PowerShell using Administrator permission. Then

check the PowerShell execution policy and client authentication method. Here we are

looking for “Basic = true”.

If you run command without tenant name then you will get error as below even your

running this command using intranet or internet.

Below is the correct command with tenant name:

$cred = Get-Credential

Now run the Get command to see the current configuration:

Get-CsBroadcastMeetingConfiguration

Verify that the parameter EnableBroadcastMeeting is set to False.

Set-CsBroadcastMeetingConfiguration –EnableBroadcastMeeting $True

Now make “EnableBroadcastMeeting” to true.

Note: After you make the changes it may take up to hour or so to take effect in the

Skype Meeting Broadcast meeting portal.

After enabling Skype Meeting Broadcast option. You can schedule meeting

What are the roles available in Skype Meeting Broadcast?

A large meeting requires up-front planning and preparation by a team of committed

individuals, thus, Skype Meeting Broadcast includes different roles that come with their

own capabilities for delivering, participating in, or attending the broadcast:

Producer. Manages the meeting sources (audio, video, and PowerPoint decks), records the event, and posts the recording to Office 365 Video.

NOTE: Using an embedded video in a PowerPoint presentation is currently not supported in Skype Meeting Broadcast.

Organizer. Creates the meeting request and invites attendees. Reviews meeting reports etc.

o Team member. Participates in the meeting as a presenter or speaker. o Attendee. Watches the event online.

What are the option available as organizer to invite attendee?

a. Anonymous: (Black color in below meeting).

Anyone with the join link can attend, even if they are external to your company or

with in company.

b. Secure: (red color in above image)

Only those users who have been invited by the broadcast service can attend. When you

select this option, you'll get an Attendees field where you can enter the email addresses

of the people you want to invite. To invite a group, enter the group alias, such as

[email protected].

c. All Company: (Green color in above Image)

Anyone from your company can attend by clicking the join link. They'll use their

company user name and password to attend.

How to Schedule Skype Meeting Broadcast?

1. Open URL https://broadcast.skype.com

2. Type your company provided email address and password (if asked).

3. Click on create new meeting.

4. Fill the mention information.

5. Select if you require video recording or not. If require the check mark.

6. Finally click on create

How to customize the Skype Meeting Broadcast to add Yammer feed?

Prerequisites for Yammer Feeds:

Before adding a Yammer feed to your Skype Meeting Broadcast, make sure:

Your company has a Yammer network. See Setting up your Yammer network for

more information.

The Yammer group you're setting up for the Skype Meeting Broadcast is open or

has the same security group as the one you're inviting to the meeting. See

Yammer admin guide for more information.

Sometimes, particularly in Internet Explorer 11, Yammer might not load

successfully. To resolve this, open Internet Explorer and click Internet Options >

Security. Deselect Enable Protected Mode and click OK. Refresh your browser to

reload the page with the new settings.

Note: We need only bold information.

Add a Yammer feed to your Skype Meeting Broadcast.

Browse to the Skype Meeting Broadcast portal.

Sign in with your work or school account (e.g., [email protected]).

Select the meeting or event to which you'll add the Yammer feed.

Click Customize.

Determine where you want the Yammer feed to be displayed, either to the right of the

video player (click Right panel app) or underneath it (click Lower panel app).

Assuming that you are adding Yammer feed on right side then click on Right panel app.

Then Click on Yammer. (Refer the below image).

After selecting yammer:

Finally click on Done.

How to Join Skype Meeting Broadcast?

Click on Skype Meeting Broadcast URL (you may receive invitation from organizer)

If you are presenter or organizer then click on “Join the event” otherwise click on view

as an attendee.

If you have Skype for Business client install then you will receive option as “Join Meeting

Audio”

Join as ‘Use Skype for Business (full audio and video experience)’ and say OK. See the

below screen.

Note: Assuming that join Meeting Audio option is on for Skype for Business client.

Once you join Skype Meeting Broadcast. You will see screen like below:

You have click on Video and start Video once Video get start

Now right click on video (which is showing) and click on “Make Active Video for

broadcasting”.

Once make Video active for broadcast then click on Start Broadcast

Once you click on Start broadcast and broadcast starts, then attendee will see, Video,

they will listen audio and see YAMMER feeds (if you added Yammer group ID and

company name).

You can add presentation by clicking on content icon. Once you add content

(PowerPoint presentation to meeting) then attendee will see the same.

What are the Layout option available?

Video Only

Video and Content

Content Only

What happens when presenter / Organizer gets another call?

While broadcasting if presenter receives another call then existing Skype Meeting

Broadcast will automatically put on hold (pause status).

Presenter can resume the broadcast later.

How to disconnect Skype Meeting Broadcast?

On presentation screen you simply click on “Stop Broadcast” button.

Remember you cannot restart a broadcast

Once you click on “Stop Broadcast” you will get below option and if you want really stop

broadcast then click on “Stop Broadcast.

Troubleshooting / Lesson learned:

How to provision user to use Skype Meeting Broadcast meeting as presenter?

Assign the appropriate license once AD user showed up in Office365 Tenant.

User must be enable on Lync or Skype for Business enable to use rich feature

provided by Skype for Business/ Lync Server.

Grant external access policy with Public IM connectivity (PIC) access in order to

present Skype Broadcast meeting.

Note: Keep in mind if you are using Skype for Business/Lync On-Prem then you have to

have enable PIC to user who is going to use Skype Meeting Broadcast as presenter,

event, producer etc.

Incase user don’t have PIC access policy then,

If user is not enable for PIC (Public IM connectivity) then when user Join Skype Meeting

Broadcast as presenter/organizer then they will get error. “An error occurred during the

Skype Meeting.”

When you open UCCAPI log in snooper then you will see Forbidden access.

In order to resolve this we must assign external policy with PIC access the user who

presenting / organizing Skype Broadcast Meeting.

Using PowerShell:

PS C:\> Grant-CsExternalAccessPolicy -Identity "bilag" -PolicyName "Allow Federa

Using Control panel:

Lync Control Panel > Users > find user and select external access policy as “Allow

Federation+Public+Outside Access”

Click on OK.

Sorry, we were trying to get some info about your company’s policies but could’t.

User will get this error when user does not have Office365 license assign.

Login to the Office365 portal > Users > Active Users > Select user and edit and assign

appropriate license.

Unable to join Skype Meeting Broadcast in brouser.

Error: No compatible source found for the current browser environment.

When I search using error code “0x10600001” found below description on

https://amp.azure.net/libs/amp/latest/docs/

No tech player that can play the requested sources, but if Flash plugin in is installed, it is

likely that a source could be played. 'No compatible source was found for this video.' is

displayed to the end user.

This is basically error when browser could not play or show audio/video.

Resolution:

Simply install latest Adobe Flash Player as suggested resolution on error page.

Or

Sometimes the website you’re visiting doesn't look right. It shows up as a jumble of out-

of-place menus, images, and text boxes. What's going on? One possible explanation:

The site might have been designed for an earlier version of Internet Explorer. If Internet

Explorer recognizes that the webpage isn't compatible, you'll see the Compatibility View

Issue: Internet exploror cannot load Yammer feeds In Skype Meeting Broadcast?

Resolution:

Sometimes, particularly in Internet Explorer 11, Yammer might not load successfully. To

resolve this,

Open Internet Explorer and click Internet Options > Security. Deselect Enable Protected

Mode and click OK. Refresh your browser to reload the page with the new settings.
