Protocol A placebo cream-gel was applied to the left side and BioBalance active complex to the right side . Applications were conducted twice daily for 56 days. The volunteers were asked not to party the evening before the photographs were taken and not wear makeup for the sessions. Voluntary UV or sun exposure sessions were prohibited. The 22 subjects had a mean age of 32.7 ± 12 years.

Data processing The identified analysis zones enabled generation of mean values for the parameters L, a* and b* obtained on the 4 photos taken at each time point (4 photos at T0, 4 photos at T2 months). Each subject 's dark c irc les was characterized by the differential of parameters ∆L, ∆a* (red) and ∆b* (blue):

We measure these parameters between zone vs. dark circle -free zone, at the outer angle of the eye. The dark circle was thus defined relative to the subject's own complexion.

The table enables comparison of the ∆L, ∆a* and ∆b* parameters of 2 subjects: subject B has a mild dark cirle characterized by a higher ∆L, a smaller ∆a* and a higher ∆b*. In consequence, an anti- dark circle product should increase parameters ∆L and ∆b∗ and decrease ∆a∗.

A significant difference was obtained for the improvement in parameters ∆a* and ∆b* on the treated side with -12.5% and +10% of mean change, in the expected direction, i.e. a decrease in ∆a* ( less red component) and an increase in ∆b* ( less blue component) .

The changes in the components, ∆a* and ∆b*, of the half-faces treated with Biobalance Active Complex and the placebo are shown in the following table:

Protocol Nineteen female volunteers were

enrolled in this study conducted over one month (mean age: 39 ± 6 years). Twice daily application The main targets in the study were the abdomen and undersurface of the arms. For each of those zones, two sites were selected and the mean measurement determined.
