Skin deep: Dermatology RACGP WA Dermatological conditions are a common presentation in general practice and non-melanoma skin cancers are almost seven times more common than all other cancers combined. With GPs treating over half the skin cancer cases in Australia, the ability to accurately diagnose and treat skin conditions is essential. This full day Active Learning Module (ALM) aims to expand GPs skills and confidence in the diagnosis and management of a range of dermatological presentations. With a mix of theoretical and a surgical practical session, presenters will discuss benign conditions and malignant lesions, dermoscopy, Medicare billing and skin pathology. The program also includes a hands on biopsy and suturing session. Transport to and from the venue will be provided for GPs attending the Rural Health West Conference on the weekend of 23-24 March, and staying in the Perth CBD. Learning outcomes 1. Describe how to undertake a comprehensive skin check examination 2. Demonstrate the utilisation of the dermatoscope for the identification and differentiation of benign and malignant skin presentations 3. Determine the appropriate investigation modalities for a range of dermatological presentations 4. Diagnose, treat and manage itchy, painful and irritated skin. 5. Identify pathology outcomes and interpretation of pathology results 6. Describe indications for specialist referral 7. Illustrate appropriate use of Medicare item numbers 8.
