Skin Cancer is the most common type of Cancer Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancer. It arises from the skin and occurs due to the expansion of abnormal cells. These cells can assault to other parts of the body. Basically there are three main types of skin cancer : Basal- cell cancer (BCC), Squamous-cell cancer (SCC) and melanoma. The first two along with a number of other less common skin cancers are known as non- melanoma skin cancer. BCC is the most common category of skin cancer and has a preference for the Sun-exposed pelt. Tumours may arise as glowing or waxy bumps usually with visible blood vessels or as a flat Sealy reddish patch with the brown edge. SCC is the second most general skin cancer. Mainly, it appears in the Sun- exposed membrane arising from an actinic keratosis. Actinic keratosis takes place in chronically skin-damaging skin. They may be called as the herald to SCC. Melanoma: Although melanoma can expand anywhere in the body, however they are the most frequently found in the Sun-exposed areas. Most melanomas develop as new lesions, but a few of them grow from pre-existing moles.

Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancer. It arises from the skin and

occurs due to the expansion of abnormal cells. These cells can assault to other

parts of the body. Basically there are three main types of skin cancer: Basal-

cell cancer (BCC), Squamous-cell cancer (SCC) and melanoma. The first two

along with a number of other less common skin cancers are known as non-

melanoma skin cancer.

BCC is the most common category of skin cancer and has a preference for the

Sun-exposed pelt. Tumours may arise as glowing or waxy bumps usually with

visible blood vessels or as a flat Sealy reddish patch with the brown edge.

SCC is the second most general skin cancer. Mainly, it appears in the Sun-

exposed membrane arising from an actinic keratosis. Actinic keratosis takes

place in chronically skin-damaging skin. They may be called as the herald to

SCC.

Melanoma: Although melanoma can expand anywhere in the body, however

they are the most frequently found in the Sun-exposed areas. Most melanomas

develop as new lesions, but a few of them grow from pre-existing moles.

Skin helps in regulating body warmth and stores water, fat and vitamin D. It has

several layers, but the two main layers are called epidermis (outer layer) and

the dermis (inner layer). All the mentioned cancers begin in the epidermis.

Causes: Normally ultraviolet radiation from the Sun spotlight is the primary root

of skin cancer. Other factors also include: Some genetic syndromes, ionizing

radiation, artificial ultraviolet radiation (like tanning beds), advancing age, and

light skin complexion.

Symptoms: Raised smooth pearly skin, non-curable sore, cracking of the lower

lip which could not be cured by lip balm or petroleum jelly.

Treatment: Mohs micrographic surgery, Mohs surgery, simple excision, shaves

excision, cryosurgery, Electrodesiccation and curettage. In addition to the above

kinds of surgeries, Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, Photodynamic therapy,

Biologic therapy is instrumental in curing skin cancer.
