Abstract. The article is about how to paste the drawing designed by using AutoCAD into PowerPoint, and to show the drawing process in two different forms of animation by examples. By compari-ng the two different forms of animation, it advances more practical methods and skills for animati-on, and for others ' reference.
Introduction
Multimedia courseware has gradually spread to various industries nowadays, its benefits have long
been accepted. It sets characters, animation and sound in one, to bring a kind of visual and auditory e
njoyment. Multimedia courseware in teaching also plays an increasing role, particularly the teachi-ng
of engineering drawing, due to the abstract content. When you use the multimedia coursewarein t
eaching to achieve better teaching efficacy, courseware quality is essential. If drawing steps canbe
displayed with animation step by step, teaching effect will be more ideal. The animation effectwo
n’t be good enough with patterns which are scanned or are pictures taken by camera. But if patt-ern
is drawn in AutoCAD drawing software, and is pasted to PowerPoint software, it can be madeinto
an ideal courseware with perfect effect. In the light of my experience for years, I summarizetwo
methods of making animation to peers for reference.
Ungroup method
Paste the patterns drawn in AutoCAD to PowerPoint slide show, and then you can make anima-t
ion of drawing process by ungroup method. As is shown in Figure 1, three axonometric drawingo
f the step, make three projections of the assembly. Analyse the assembly first, this assembly can beth
ought as two cuboids, A and B, consisted of, and the back surface of the two cuboids are at thesa
me level. When drawing three projections of the assembly, we should draw three projectionsof
cuboid A using thin solid lines, according to the shape analysis and the arrow direction of thesele
cted front projection. As is shown in Figure 2, and then on the basis of the projection ofcubo
id A, draw the projection of the second cuboid on three sides. As is shown in Figure 3.Final
ly arrange and deepen, and finish the whole picture. As is shown in Figure 4.
Above is the drawing process of the assembly projection by shape analysis method. How thed
rawing process reflected in the slide? This requires making every step of the drawing process intoan
imation to reflect the drawing process. The method is zooming the pattern in the Figure 3 to a rig
htsize in AutoCAD interface, left click Copy Link under Edit, and then open the PowerPoint, rig
htclick to paste the pattern to the slide, and picture pasted. Right click the picture and choos-e t
he picture toolbar, cut off the extra white space around the picture. Then pull the picture into an app
ropriate size, left click it, then right click Ungroup. Repeatedly click until the word dim.Now
the pattern is shown as Figure 5.
Click on the slide show to display. Left click, the three projections of cuboid A will be shown,
and left click again, the three projections of cuboid B will be shown. So animation effect comes out.
m”n” in Figure 3 is an extra line due to the shape analysis method and should be deleted. Here is t
he method. Left click the line which has been copied, and right click Set the Selected Picture Form

at dialog box. Choose white as spline color. Choose 3 pounds or other thicker line width as its
style. As the case may be. As is shown in Figure 6. And then pull the line to m” n” position, andt
he line completely coincide with the line m”n”. If not, right click the line to edit the apex to coinci-d
e. And now the line m”n” is covered with this white line. At the end of the show, the final drawingis
shown as Figure 7. Finally the final pattern after deepen can be drawn in AutoCAD, and thenbe
copied and linked to a new slide show, draw the custom animation directly.
Multiple pictures overlapping method
Multiple pictures overlapping method, is dividing the drawing process into many pictures of thes
ame size. Each picture stands for a kind of drawing process. A picture always hides the one behindit,
and the last picture is the final result. Also, we will demonstrate the making method of animationby
steps mentioned above. Make patterns in Figure 2 into appropriate size in CAD, and then clickon t
he down restore button in the upper right corner of the AutoCAD interface. The interface beco-mes
smaller. And then make the pattern in Figure 2 into a suitable size that fulfills this smaller interf
ace. Then click on the copy link, after right clicking to paste in the PowerPoint slide, you canmake
custom animation, and drag the picture to the lower right corner of the slide. Open the Auto-CAD i
nterface which has been reduced and keep it stay. On the basis of the first step picture, drawthree pr
ojections of the cuboid B. When it is finished, copy and link. Right click to paste the customanimati
on in the former slide, drag the picture to the lower right corner of the slide, and picturesare comp
letely overlapped. m”n” is a line in the process of drawing, so they need to be deleted.Turn m”
n” into red in that AutoCAD interface, and then copy link to the former slide. Right clickon the pi
cture and choose Set the Picture Format dialog box, in the dialog box, click on the pictureand choos
e Recolor, change red into white, and drag this picture to the lower right corner of theslide, mak
e it completely overlapped with the former two pictures. At last, put the finished rightpattern to t
hat slide in AutoCAD, the method is the same as mentioned earlier. There are 4 picturesin total. In t

he lower right corner of the slide area, left click and drag toward upper right to selectthese 4 pictu
res, then four pictures will be selected at the same time. You can drag this picture free-ly with the le
ft button, you can be free to widen or narrow, 4 pictures are corresponding all the time. After you clic
k on the show, on the first click, three projections of cuboid A appears, on the second click, appears
cuboid B, on the third click, appears the animation process of deleting m”n”, on theforth click, the
final pattern occurs. Every time you click on the mouse, the animation appears. Youcan see each ste
p of the drawing process. Animation effects comes out. In fact, the second picturecontains the cont
ent of the first picture. the third picture contains the second picture, the forthpicture contains t
he third picture. But in the show, the animation of two adjoining pictures can’t beshown because th
ey are overlapped, and only the new line animation can be shown. Say, when dis-playing the second
picture, it seems that only three projections of cuboid B can be seen, as a matterof fact, there is ani
mation of three projections of cuboid A in the second click, too. The reason thatyou can’t see it is th
at the two same pictures are overlapped. Finishing the slide show, the finalresult is shown as Fig
ure 4.
Comparison of two animation methods
Compare the two methods of the animation, the effect is excellent, but the production process
has advantages and disadvantages. You can paste the complete pattern to the slide for one time withu
ngroup method, and then make custom animation, this method is more convenient for simplepat
terns, but for complex patterns, when making custom animation, order, it is easy to confuse. Younee
d to draw step by step with multiple pictures overlapping method, first draw, and then paste, fin-ally
make custom animation, the process is tedious, but the animation production process is alwaysgoing
on without errors. Compare the two methods, multiple pictures overlapping method is moreconve
nient, despite the complex drawing process, the order won’t be confused.I suggest that you’dbetter
use the second method when making courseware, I am using this method to make coursewareat pres
ent, the effect is perfect.
