Mammoth is Open for Skiing AND Trail Biking ☺ Planning for Feb 29, 2020 in Cervinia, Italy & the Matterhorn?

Or, for 2019-20 Season Club Condos? Well, sports fans, summer is upon us! And, skiing at Mammoth continues in grand style with six lifts and twenty-seven trails open as of June 21st. Week Trips with Mark Malan Long Beach Ski Club's Cervinia Italy 2020 Trip (with optional

extension)

We’re going to SKI the Matterhorn. The Club Med in Cervinia, Italy will be our home base. All food, beverages, and lift tickets are included. They even have nightly entertainment and offer some ski lessons at no cost. This will be real fun. We have 17 of our 35 spaces reserved. YOU can join with a $500 reservation deposit.

Check this out! The optional five-day tour of Northern Italy with the Club will be staying at 4-star hotels. Please go on line to visit these sites:

www.miramaresestrilevante.com We’ll be here three nights and tour Cinque Terre and do some wine tasting at a local winery.

www.hotelvillacappugi.com We’ll tour a Chianti vineyard in Tuscany on one day and shop Florence on the next.

Flights are in/out of LAX on Swiss Air and Lufthansa depending on traveling for ski week or if the five-day extension is selected. The extension is for three nights in Sestri Levante, where we will take a quick train ride to Cinque Terre and other activities during two full days before going to Pistoia for two nights. From Pistoia, we will visit Tuscany and Florence. There will be multiple wine tastings, as this region is internationally known for its wine and is as picturesque as anywhere in Italy.

The extension is available for only 20 people. Our coach seats 36 people, so there is room for luggage. Skis fly free on Swissair and cost $250 on Lufthansa, so many will find renting new skis cheaper and easier than carry skis. We have 15 rooms with two beds and 5 for single supplement in Cervinia at Club Med. It is hard on international trips to increase or decrease the number of participants so, you need to send in your Reservation Request NOW. [email protected]

We will be setting up the club's web site for payments once the original group of skiers is selected. Initial deposits need to be paid by check and accompanied with the sign-up paperwork attached to this newsletter filled out. We only have a limited amount of each option to join the trip. PLEASE specify if you have a roommate or if you are in need of one. Same gender room selections can be made by trip chairman. Trip insurance will be added at the cost of 6.5% to everyone's balance. We don't want anyone to lose their money if travel must be cancelled. Insurance is provided by SKI.com.

Get Loose with Lance - Social By Lance Liebl [email protected]

On June 15th, we had our wine tasting event on the water. Ten hardy sailors from the Long Beach Ski Club embarked onto a super large gondola to drink wine and share appetizers. The seas were calm and no one got sea sick. The gondoliers polled us through the Naples canals while we admired the homes of the rich and famous. Mostly rich. It was nice to have a mixture of new and old members on this excursion.

On July 13th, we will have our first annual barbecue at the home of club members Lisa and Brian Maloney. On August 17th, we will have our second and last barbecue of the year at Casa Lopez (David Lopez’s home.) These two summer events have always been the highlights of our summer socials. The club always provides plenty of fresh roasted corn and cold watermelon. Club members will bring their own entrees to grill and appetizers to share. There will be lawn games at Casa Lopez. Watch for flyers for details.

I want to wish everyone to have a safe and fun Fourth of July.

Good news skiers and snowboarders! I was able to reserve our condos-Snowflower #37 & #53 -for next season. There has been a price increase but we will still be in good shape.

We had 10 Bike/Blade rollers and 5 Kayak/SUP gliders last month. We are out having fun and getting stronger for the ski season and life in general. You are welcome to bring family and friends or just show up for lunch if you prefer.

July 7th will be Bike/Blade

Meet at Belmont Pier 10:00. Any bike will do or you can walk, run, or rent scooters. Lunch afterwards. Meter parking $1.00 per hour with credit card.

July 21st will be Kayak/SUP

Meet at Kayaks on the Water at 9:45 to rent $12/hour for kayaks and $16/hour for SUP. If you are new to SUP the lesson and 1 hour of rental is $25. They have an excellent learning program.

Membership By Craig Gibson [email protected] I’m pleased to announce that our membership numbers continue to climb! Each individual has a unique variety of interests and fun that he or she brings to the club. Keep ‘em coming! Invite your friends, that might be interested in joining, to any of our events. Brian and Lisa’s BBQ is coming up fast. Help them take in some fresh air and exercise, followed by a delicious brunch at Mike’s Bike & Blade and Kayak & SUP. Ski and board season will be here before you know it. Now is a great time to join.

Kris’ Kolumn Continued… I hope that Eric Hartman has found likeminded and creative people to develop a new vision for racing at Mammoth. Quite a number of people have served as Members-at-Large, offering unique perspectives and volunteering to Chair several efforts, including Rose Molina, who has found inexpensive regalia for us, and Eric’s wife, Nia, who is starting a new Technology Committee to assist our club in maintaining our electronic communications. It takes only a few good sports, so please ask Nia how you can help! Another recent member, Tan Nyugen, is the latest addition to your board with energy and ideas that are already moving us forward. During the past seven years, I have relied heavily on counsel from Don Crawford, advice from everyone, and Lance Liebl for more than this. In addition to putting together all the social activities for these seven years (and how many before??), Lance has truly been a best friend to most of us – the glue and clamps that has held us together so tightly and the kind words and thoughtful suggestions that are necessary for any organization to flourish. Thank you, Lance! It is not possible to name and thank everyone who has served on the Board during my tenure, but I’d like to simply mention the contributions of Sarah Pool, Roberto Tovar, Letty Gonzales, and Luis Alonzo. Many thanks to everyone who has served on your ski club board. I’ll be leaving this great Club in the very capable hands of Barbara Nelson, whose talent you will soon know to be second to none. Barbara has been an incredible stalwart for this club, and merits every accolade she has received. I hope you will make her feel welcome once again in the President’s chair and feel inclined to volunteer an hour here or there for Your Club under her leadership.
