Due to the uniqueness of each network, we cannot be responsible nor will we support the installation of Servant Keeper on your network by anyone without the network administrator or a person with adequate networking knowledge available. This instruction sheet is used to install Servant Keeper Version 6 on a network. For installation purposes, the main computer that will contain the Servant Keeper data will be referred to as the “Server”. The computers that access the Servant Keeper data data from the Server will be referred to as “Workstations”. System Requirements: Processor Intel Pentium III processor Memory 64MB of RAM Graphics Card A graphics adaptor that has at least 16 MB of memory. Display 800x600 16 bit color Hard Drive 200 MB CD A quad-speed CD drive. SK Help – Network Help Sheets-Server and Workstation Installation This is a GENERAL Servant Keeper Network Installation help sheet. If you need further assistance, please contact your network administrator.

Due to the uniqueness of each network, we cannot be responsible nor will we support the installation of Servant Keeper on your network by anyone without the network administrator or a person with adequate networking knowledge available.

This instruction sheet is used to install Servant Keeper Version 6 on a network. For installation purposes, the main computer that will contain the Servant Keeper data will be referred to as the “Server”. The computers that access the Servant Keeper data data from the Server will be referred to as “Workstations”. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHAT VERSION OF WINDOWS YOUR COMPUTER IS CURRENTLY RUNNING BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR SERVANT KEEPER INSTALLATION!! If you do not know what version of Windows your computer is running, follow the instructions below:

1. Right click on your My Computer or Computer icon on your desktop. If you do not have this icon on your desktop, you can find it by clicking on your Start button. It will be listed there.

2. Click on Properties. You will see a window that will display the version of Windows that this computer is running. You will need this information during the installation of Servant Keeper.

Make sure that you have a current Servant Keeper 6 CD, Version 6.1.23 or NEWER. If you do not have a Version 6.1.23 or newer CD, please call the Help Desk at 570-748-2800 and get a new download version before beginning any installation!

Step 1: Server Installation:

1. Insert the Servant Keeper 6 CD in your CD-Rom drive. Or after downloading the current version, double click on the download icon on your desktop. 2. The installation should automatically begin. If the install does not start automatically click Start | Run and type X:\setup.exe where X is the drive letter assigned to your CD-Rom drive. 3. Follow the on-screen prompts until prompted “Where do you want to install Servant Keeper?” 4. Choose [On a Network PC or Server] from the install options.

5. The install now wants to make certain that the person doing the install knows the network setup. If you are not familiar with your network setup, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR before going any further.

6. If you are certain that you can continue with the installation, check the “I am the network administrator or other qualified professional” box and click the [Continue>>] button. 7. Click on the [New Installation] button.

The other options displayed on this window are for installing a Trial of Servant Keeper, Upgrading your Servant Keeper to the version that is on this CD or for doing a Reinstall of the Servant Keeper program files. We do not recommend doing a reinstall of the program without first contacting the Help Desk department. 8. Here you need to choose which install you need to do on this computer, if this is the Server, choose [Server].

9. You will now be prompted to enter your Product Code and Customer ID Number. You will find these numbers on your invoice.

10. The installation now tells you the default path to where Servant Keeper will be installed. Here is where you will need to know what version of Windows your computer is running. Here are the paths to use for the different Windows versions: Windows XP or older: C:\Program Files\Servant Keeper 6 Windows Vista or newer: C:\Servant Keeper 6 Includes Windows 7 and Small Business Server 2008 Make certain that the Selected Destination Folder is correct before clicking the [Next] button.

IMPORTANT !!!!! On Windows SBS 2008, Windows Vista and Windows 7, make sure the Destination Folder is NOT in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders! Windows 2000 or XP it is ok to install into the Program Files folder. Click the [Next] button when you are certain that the Selected Destination Folder has the correct path in it. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.

11. Once the install on the Server is complete continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Sharing the Servant Keeper on the network for Windows SBS2008, Windows Vista and Windows 7: (following the workstation install instructions are the instructions on how to share Servant Keeper on Windows XP).

1. On the server computer, open Windows Explorer. (Right-click the [Start] button and click [Explore].)

2. Browse the C:\ drive and locate the C:\Servant Keeper 6 folder for SBS 2008, Windows Vista or Windows 7. For Windows 2000 or XP, Servant Keeper should be located in C:\Servant Keeper 6. Right click the Servant Keeper 6 folder, then click on Properties.

3. You will see the window below.

4. Click on the [Advanced Sharing] button.

5. Choose [Share this folder]. Leave the share name as Servant Keeper 6.

6. Click the [Permissions] button.

7. Make sure in the Group or users names box that the Everyone group is listed.

a. If Everyone is not listed, you will need to contact your Network Administrator for further assistance with sharing the Servant Keeper 6 folder.

9. Under Permissions make sure Everyone has Full Control. 10. Click [OK] and then click [OK] again. This will bring you back to this window:

12. Make sure in the Group or user names box that Everyone is listed.

a. If Everyone is not listed you will need to contact your Network Administrator for further assistance in sharing the Servant Keeper 6 folder.

13. Make sure that all permissions are checked. They do not have to have Full Control, but they do need all of the other options: Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read and Write. 14. Click [OK] 15. Click [OK] to exit and save the share settings. 16. Once the Servant Keeper 6 folder is shared continue to Step 3. Step 3: Workstation Installation:

1. Insert the Servant Keeper 6 CD in your CD-Rom drive of your workstation.

2. The installation should automatically begin. If the install does not start automatically click Start | Run and type X:\setup.exe where X is the drive letter assigned to your CD-Rom drive.

3. Follow the on-screen prompts until prompted to “Where do you want to install Servant Keeper”.

4. Choose [On a Network PC or Server] from the install options. Make sure the person doing the installation is knowledgeable with the network setup.

5. Choose [New Installation].

6. Choose [Workstation]. This will install a few local files needed on the Workstation. After those files are installed you will see this window:

7. From the list, choose which action you would like to take: a) Create a Mapped Drive, b) Select Mapped Drive or c) Browse for the folder you shared in Step 2 #5.

b. If you choose [Create Mapped Drive] you will see this window:

If you choose: [Create Mapped Drive]: Select a drive letter for the mapped drive in the Drive box and type the full UNC path to the shared folder from Step 2 in the Folder box or use the browse button to browse the network and locate the shared folder on the server from Step 1 then click [Next].

c. If you choose [Select Mapped Drive], this means you already have a mapped drive to the share you created in Step 2, select that drive.

d. If you choose [Browse for Shared Folder], you will be presented with this window:

When you click the [Browse] button you will see this window:

Here is where you would browse to your “server” and find the Servant Keeper 6 share.

8. Once the mapped drive setup completes continue to follow the prompts to complete the installation. Shortcuts are created for Servant Keeper using the mapped drive you created during the Workstation install.

9. A folder will be placed in your start menu and desktop that contains the Servant Keeper shortcuts.

Sharing Servant Keeper – Windows 2000/XP/2003

This document is for sharing Servant Keeper on the following Operating Systems: • Windows 2000 Professional

• Windows 2000 Server • Windows XP Professional (with simple file sharing disabled)

• Windows 2003 Server

Note: This help sheet assumes that you have the hard drives formatted using NTFS and that you that you have Servant Keeper 6 installed in the default location. These are the basic steps to setup sharing and security for

Servant Keeper on your network. Your network administrator may want to tailor the security for the database to your organizations specific requirements. If problems arise from alternate security settings please refer to this

help sheet for the recommended configuration. Follow these steps to share the Servant Keeper program

folder for use on a network

1. On the main (server) PC with Servant Keeper installed browse to C:\Program Files, find and right click the Servant

Keeper 6 folder, and click Sharing… or Sharing and Security… 2. Click Share this folder and leave the share name Servant

Keeper 6 as shown in Fig1.

3. Next click the Permissions button. Make sure to set share permissions to either Full Control or Allow Change and Read

for the Everyone group. Click OK. Fig2. Note: Users need at least Change and Read share access to

the database. 4. Click the Security tab. Set the security permissions so that

the Everyone group has either Full Control (default) or Read

& Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, and Write to files in the folder as shown in Fig3.

5. Click OK to save the security and share settings and exit.

Follow these steps to share the Servant Keeper program folder for use on a network. This help sheet assumes that

you have Servant Keeper 6 installed in the default install location. Note: These are the basic steps to setup the sharing and security for Servant Keeper on your network. Your network

administrator may want to tailor the security for the database to your organizations specific requirements. If problems arise from alternate security settings please refer to this help sheet for the recommended configuration.

1. On the PC with Servant Keeper installed browse to

C:\Program Files, find and right click the Servant Keeper 6 folder, and click Sharing and Security…

2. In the Network sharing and security section click the text, “If you understand the security risk but want to share files

without running the wizard, click here.” Fig1.

3. A dialog box will open. In it click the option Just en- able file sharing and click OK. Fig2

4. You will be back at the previous window with a few new options. Check the option, “Share this folder

on the network.” Make sure you have a check in the option “Allow network users to change my files”. Fig3

5. Click OK to save the share settings and exit.

Moving Photos to the New Version To have your pictures available by everyone using Servant Keeper on your network you need to move all your pictures to

the network and then relink all the pictures to that new location.

1. Create a Directory under the “/Servant Keeper 6” folder called SKPhotos. 2. Move all the pictures to that folder.

3. In Administration Manager, Select Tools | Picture Manager. 4. Tag the records you wish to relocate in the picture directory.

5. Click on the [Change directory for tagged Records...] button.

6. Type in the new Picture Directory Location or click on the [Browse] button to navigate to the new location. This Picture Directory Location should be the Server Location so that all Workstations will be able to find the pictures.

EXAMPLE: //Server/Program Files/Servant Keeper 6/SKPhotos

Helpful Hints This upgrade only upgrades the program files and standard reports; it does nothing to your existing data.

Be sure to delete the old Servant Keeper Icons so there is no confusion as to which icon to use.

Common Installation Questions: Q: My CD doesn’t start automatically when inserted into my computer.

A: The installation should start to run automatically. If it does not, click the [Start] button on the taskbar and select

Run... and type X:\setup.exe,where X represents the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive (which you will type instead of the letter X).

Q: Where do I find the Product Code # and Customer ID #?

A: Both these numbers are provided for you on your Sales Invoice. If you are not able to locate them, please call the

Help Desk at 570-748-2800 option 3.

Q: How do I install Servant Keeper into a different directory other than the Default directory? A: If you want to change this path, click on the [Browse] button and select the path where you want the \Servant

Keeper 6 directory to be placed. Please make sure you make note where you are installing the Servant Keeper Program in the front of this book. To avoid unnecessary headaches in the future, it is recommended to accept the

default location. Click on the [Next] buttons to continue with the install until the program is installed. Click on the

[Finish >] button to complete the installation.

Q: How is Servant Keeper installed on Peer-to-Peer networks? A: The Main Computer on the Peer-to-Peer network should use the Network Installation Instructions. Workstation

computers need to use the Workstation Installation instructions.

Q: How do you map a network Drive?

A: Here’s How: 1. Close all Programs.

2. Double-Click on the “My Network Places” icon. 3. Click on the “Entire Network”

4. Double-Click on the Server (Main Computer).

5. Right-Click the “Servant Keeper 6” folder. 6. Choose “Map Network Drive”.

7. Type in the letter of your choice (we recommend “S:\”). 8. Be sure the “reconnect at login” checkbox is checked.

9. Click “OK”.
