Page 2: SIZEABLE DISCOUNTS FOR SUBSCRIBERS 35 AND ......HOT MIKADO SEP 25–OCT 13, 2019 HOT MIKADO takes the Gilbert and Sullivan oper-etta masterpiece and amps it up with a killer jazz interpretation

Mike Todd’s original 1939 production starred the legendary tap dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and was a hit at the 1939 World’s Fair.

In 1986, Bell and Bowman found that the original materials for the show had disappeared, so they rebuilt it from the ground up for their revival at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC.

The 2016 revival of SCROOGE IN LOVE! at the Marines’ Memorial Theatre in San Francisco broke all existing box office records for 42nd Street Moon.

Writer Duane Poole started in Hollywood, creating animated series for Hanna-Barbera and writing and producing Aaron Spelling shows such as Hart to Hart, Hotel, and The Love Boat.

GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE… is based on the novel Israel Rank—best known as the inspiration for the 1949 Ealing film Kind Hearts and Coronets, with Alec Guinness in a classic comedic turn.

The New York Times said of the musical, “It will lift the hearts from all those who’ve been pining for what sometimes seems a lost art form.”

The original production was a notorious flop, running only 16 performances. It’s been rewritten numerous times since then to fantastic effect: recent productions in the West End, at Encores! (starring Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Off-Broadway, have been unequivocal hits.

MERRILY also features in the indie film Lady Bird (2017).

The original 1934 Broadway production of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG had a cast of 71 performers.

The play features several characters who are thinly-veiled versions of celebrities in Kaufman and Hart’s glittering inner circle, most notably fellow Algonquin Round Table member Dorothy Parker and composer George Gershwin.

Three of THE PAJAMA GAME’s songs became smash hits: “Hernando’s Hideaway,” “Hey There,” and “Steam Heat.”

Two of its songs, “There Once Was a Man” and “A New Town Is a Blue Town,” were written, uncredited, by Frank Loesser.

John Raitt reprised his Broadway lead opposite Doris Day in the 1957 film— his only starring film role.

HOT MIKADOSEP 25–OCT 13, 2019

HOT MIKADO takes the Gilbert and Sullivan oper-etta masterpiece and amps it up with a killer jazz interpretation of the scoreperformed by a multicul-tural cast who will have you dancing in the aisles! Welcome to Titipu, a town turned upside down by the arrival of Nanki-Poo, a roving trumpet player looking for his lost love, Yum Yum. Before long, he’s embroiled in the topsy-turvy machinations of Titipu’s powers-that-be, with hilarious results.

SCROOGE IN LOVE! had its world premiere at Moon in 2015, and our 2016 reprise was a smash hit. Set a year after the events of the Dickens tale, we find a reformed Scrooge looking for his lost love, Belle, and revisiting past, present, and future with hilarious, ghostly friends! Both side-splitting and hopelessly romantic, SCROOGE IN LOVE! is the per-fect holiday show for the whole family—and now a cherished San Francisco tradition!

A perfect blend of farce, romance, and treachery, GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE… won the Tony for Best Musical in 2014, and we’re proud to host the Bay Area pro-fessional premiere! When a commoner finds he’s eighth in line for an Earldom, he begins fiendishly plotting to move to the top of the heap. With a sparkling score and a crack ensemble cast, this GUIDE is part comedy of manners and part music hall romp—you’ll be dying of laughter.

One of the greatest scores of Broadway’s Golden Age, THE PAJAMA GAME is full of immortal standards, plus a story that continues to resonate with audiences: workplace romance, clashes between management and labor, and the great middle-class struggle to do more than just get by. Add to that the early cho-reographic genius of Bob Fosse, and you’re in for an evening of love, laughter, and some of musical theatre’s greatest songs.

A nakedly emotional cautionary tale of friendship told in reverse, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG is legendary. We follow three best friends from their wayward mid-dle age back to their idealistic youth as they find out where they took a wrong turn. At its heart is a rousing, ingeniously backward Sondheim score—his most classically “Broadway” in feel. MERRILY is a heartbreaking and exhilarating journey to recapture the hope of our youth.

Playwright Richard Niles is in crisis: he’s sold his soul, his integrity, and his dearest friendships for comfort and material success. One of the most ambitious undertakings of the writing team that brought the world You Can’t Take it with You, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Of Thee I Sing, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG is told in reverse, examining the motives and mores of the glittering art world between the Great War and the Great Depression.
