THANK YOU For Your Support of St. Charles Borromeo

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Today’s readings speak of hospitality. Abraham, who cheerfully did for his guests all that desert hospitality required, was rewarded with his heart’s desire—a son. Martha also busied herself with all the details of hospitality, but grudgingly and with complaint. Am I cheerful or a grudging giver?

St. Charles Borromeo School Students Read St. Charles Borromeo School students are strongly encouraged to keep reading throughout the summer. Great programs are available through Allen County Public Library at our local Georgetown branch. Last summer our students showed great improvement and came close to being the most frequent readers; let's do even better this year!

Students may take Accelerated Reader (AR) tests throughout the summer at the school library. See the schedule noted below. During the morning library times, students may also check books out and return them to the school library with Mrs. Fisher. During these morning times, students may register to receive prizes which are available at each session with a grand prize at the end of summer! AR points earned over the summer count for the first quarter of the next school year.

Summer library and AR testing (please enter at door #13, corner parking lot, near Religious Education office) Wednesday, July 31 10:00 a.m. - noon

Additional AR testing available (please enter at door #15, near bike racks, near computer lab) Wednesday, July 24 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Have a fun summer of rest, relaxation, physical activity, and

READING!

There has been a rash of usher turnover as many of our long term veteran ushers have elected to resign from the usher corps to turn over the responsibility to the younger and more abled bodies. We now have over 20 open positions spanning all the Masses—the majority are at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning and 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening Masses.

If you have never ushered for St. Charles, now is the time to step forward and volunteer for this very worthwhile service to the parish; WE NEED YOU!

If you regularly attend any of the Sunday Masses at St. Charles, please consider becoming an usher. Ushers are traditionally men of the parish. However, we are encouraging men, women and high school age parishioners to consider this service to the parish. Youth grade 6 or older are welcome when a parent or grandparent is also on the usher team.

If you are interested or need more information, call Russ Suever, 492-9874, or email [email protected]

ATTENTION: WIDOWERS OF THE PARISH

Join us on Thursday, July 25, 7:00 p.m. in the Hession Center, door #3, to organize and plan the agenda for a St. Thomas More Club for Widowers. The intent is to provide a forum for sharing experiences in a social environment. If interested or have questions, call the Parish Office, 482-2186.

A Summer of MercyA Summer of MercyA Summer of MercyA Summer of Mercy The Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy have their roots in Scripture as Jesus and the Apostles help us to see each and

every person as a Beloved Child of God. We are commanded by Christ to help others and the following are some fun ways

to live out the works of mercy this summer. Even if you practice one a week between now and Labor Day, we can give back

to God for the many blessings He has given us!

To feed the hungry:To feed the hungry:To feed the hungry:To feed the hungry: † Volunteer at St. Mary’s or St. Andrew’s Soup Kitchen: (260) 426-1217 for St. Mary’s; St. Andrew’s (260) 423-6326.

† Bring a meal to the Cloister Poor Sisters of St. Claire:

These sisters live completely apart from the world to devote themselves in prayer for all of us, that we might be given

the graces we need to live holy lives. It is always a treat for them to receive a meal or just some groceries/necessities.

IMPORTANT NOTE: They do not use refrigeration so gallons of ice cream don’t work as well as dried milk. To drop

items off or schedule a meal (because if we all show up with a meal next Tuesday that would be awkward) go to Old

St. Andrew Church on New Haven Ave. and enter on the right side (as you are looking at the Church). You will see

what looks like a Lazy-Susan in the wall and a doorbell; if you ring someone will come and see who it is unless they

are in prayer at 6:00 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 9:00 a.m,. 12 noon, 3:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. A good time to go is around 11:00 a.m.

Or drop off non-perishable food items, personal care products, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. at the St. Charles Parish

Office during normal business hours.
