1992 SIVECO Romania is founded as a research-development division within SIVECO International Group – the first objective being the development and maintenance of a software package in the field of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

1994 The company starts to develop its own integrated information system called SIVECO Applications, one of the most valuable ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications, perfectly adapted to the Romanian market.

1995 The organization starts to implement its quality system, according to the regulations of the ISO 9001:1994 standard.

1997 SIVECO Romania changes its legal status in a shareholder company.

1998 The company is involved, together with other organizations in a consortium, in the first complex project developed until then in Romania: implementing IT for Constanta Sea Harbour Administration; in the following years the company contributed to the successful implementation of extremely large projects (SEI Project – ITBased Educational System starting with 2001, PETROM – starting 2002, CNAS – National Health Insurance House - 2003, RAAVJ – Valea Jiului Autonomous Water Company – 2001 and many others)

2000 DANEL Business Ventures, a Dutch investment fund, becomes the major shareholder; the company launches AeL, its eLearning platform.

2001 Two new products are launched: SIVABON (a Credit Bureau solution) and SIVADOC (Workflow and Document Management System)

2002 The company’s quality management system is recertified by AFAQ-ASCERT, according to the ISO 9001:2000 standard.

2003 SIVECO (Netherlands) BV becomes the major shareholder.

2004 SIVECO Romania focuses on international business growth and launches the international release of SIVECO Applications. At the same time SIVECO Romania started to develop SIVECO Applications NT - a web based multitier system, functioning independently of the database and the application server.

2004 The company signed partnership contracts in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and France, also for the South-East Asia markets. AeL eLearning platform is an integrated teaching and learning program and content management system, based on modern educational principles and technologies.

AeL eLearning platform offers support for teaching and learning, for tests and evaluations, for managing the educational content, for monitoring the educational system and creating the curricula.

AeL can be used for the learning process assisted by the teacher/trainer or for individual education. AeL is implemented at undergraduate and graduate levels of the educational system, as well as in corporations for internal training needs.

AeL design is very flexible: it can be used in several languages, different regions, learning levels and types of organizations.

Synchronized learning - the teacher is completely in control of the lesson; he creates, coordinates and monitors the educational environment;

Non-synchronized learning - the pupil/student has his own study pace, collaboration projects, being suitable for distance learning.

Technical features

Ael is a modern software platform based on the latest IT technologies. For portability and maintenance reasons, AeL was created as a multi-layer system – using a web client connected at a Java-based application server.

We use Enterprise Java Beans, Jdbc, Java servlets, JSP, Java applets and XML. The need for inter-operable content has also been taken into account; XML is basically used, but the support for standard format for interoperability content packaging, such as SCORM and IMS, has also been implemented.

SIVABONa Credit Bureau solution

SIVABON is an IT system for credit bureaus, with unlimited number of participants, a database of clients, which works with both negative (overdue) and positive data (granted credits, bonus/malus scoring system).

SIVABON manages a shared database focused on information about the retail clients, debtors, fraudulent persons, and their accounts.

Using a web interface, users and administrators can consult online, the database with information on the financial behavior, which is emphasized in the credit report. This comprises the demographical data (centralized on personal ID number), Credit Bureau centralized score, current degree risk for each account in the database, account history (with current payments, payment delays, bank losses).

The participants are banks, financial bodies, insurance companies, leasing companies, retailers, telecom and utility suppliers.

Functionalities

In case of clients who have debts or other payment problems, the owner of this system can adopt measures according to his own policy (he can ask for advance payment, specify a safe payment method, refuse the service etc).

The system deals, with customers at national level who are in arrears with their payments or who have acted in a suspect or proven fraudulent manner, so that their evidence is made in real time at every system owner’s level and their subunits in the country; every owner benefits from and contributes to creating and maintaining such a database, including public information (available for all the users) and information about the owner (security information, available only for the owner), which is extremely important.

Technical features

The system is designed in a modular, open and extensible manner, which allows the user to add new facilities and improve the existent ones. Specific access rights protect the system data and functionalities.

SIVABON is a 3-tier application, using the HTTPS protocol over the multiple VPN’s, ORION application server and Oracle 9i relational database server.

SIVADOCWorkflow and Document Management System

SIVADOC offers companies and institutions solutions for creating, managing and archiving any type of document, whether it is a text or Microsoft Word document, e-mail messages, faxes, scanned documents, even images which are at the basis of the performed activity.

The product aims to facilitate work and allows an easy document and document version management for the teams involved in the company or institution’s activity, offering at the same time a way to define the document processing.

Functionalities

The system offers an integrated work environment for all of the team members, from team coordinators to common users.

Due to the security system and the mechanism for defining the responsibilities, each employee will be able to work only with those documents necessary for fulfilling in good condition his own duties.

The organization of documents in a company, similar to a system of standard files, is flexible

and perfectly adapted, in an elegant yet intuitive manner, to its practical needs.

Data retrieval becomes very simple with SIVADOC. By specifying summarized information about the searched documents, the system will present the user a list with all the existent documents which correspond to the respective information; thus, the user has the possibility to find exactly the document he/she is looking for.

The interface is very friendly, as the user is presented at any time the documents he has to process.

In order to offer organizations all the flexibility for choosing the right solutions and respect the preferences and competencies already gathered by the IT specialists, SIVADOC has been designed in such a manner that it can work on any of the renowned data base management systems (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or IBM DB2).

SIVADOC can work both on Microsoft and Linux operating systems.

Technical features

Being modular, the system is flexible, easy to be extended and adapted. SIVADOC can function in an integrated environment by interfacing with other systems, including human resources and financial accounting management, customer relationship management, thus offering employees the possibility to perform the activities in an integrated environment, no matter what the responsibilities are.

International Events

SIVECO Romania is a permanent presence at the IT&C events in Romania and abroad. In this respect the company has participated at CeBIT, the most important international IT fair; the outsourcing exhibition in London; at the events for e-Government solutions such as WSIS or the International Conference at Brussels; international eLearning fairs such as WEM or EDUCA Berlin.

Online EDUCA Berlin 2003 and 2004 Conferences gathered together over 1,200 participants from 60 countries and are some of the most important international conferences on eLearning. Online EDUCA gathers dedicated software producers, eLearning professionals, universities, governmental representatives and companies that use IT for employee training.

These events were an opportunity for the company to promote its products on the international market and the premise for an increase in competitiveness at international level. National Events

SIVECO Virtual Center for Excellency

Launched at the beginning of 2003, SIVECO Virtual Center for Excellency gathers a series of initiatives started by SIVECO Romania in the educational field, initiatives that contribute to promoting creativity in computer assisted learning. This initiative is based on the companies’ concern for complete and complex eLearning solutions. Two reference contests have been launched so far within SIVECO Virtual Center for Excellency: SIVECO CUP and “How to become a champion”.

SIVECO CUP

Organized by SIVECO Romania in association with the Ministry of Education and Research and PC Magazine, the national educational software contest “SIVECO CUP” is a reference competition for the undergraduate educational system. The competition addresses, first of all, gifted pupils with skills in implementing educational information applications, as well as teachers able to create innovative learning methods. SEI education portal forum http://portal.edu.ro is the communication environment the contest takes place in.

This is the first school competition where the jury has also a tutorial role - in other words, it takes part in correcting the competitors’ creative strategies, without modifying the points they have obtained. In this respect, the competition is a premiere in Romania. Why? Because “SIVECO CUP” is the first national competition with a real end: all the valuable products presented in the competition, no matter their final classification, are included in the high-school educational training program and promoted abroad.

Thus, 2003, 2004, and 2005 winners presented their works at ONLINE EDUCA Berlin; they were highly appreciated and contributed to building an eLearning producer image for Romania.

How to become a champion

Together with SIVECO CUP educational software contest, “How to become a champion” is an integrated part of SIVECO Virtual Center for Excellency.

The idea that generated “How to become a champion” is that building up a permanent training and testing environment for the elites is the way to improve and maintain the computer science olympics’ performances. Taking place on the Internet, as a real computer science online training, the competition is structured according to age levels:first level-pupils up to 9th grade;second level-10th grade pupils andthird level- 11 th-12th grade pupils.

For those little by age but advanced in informatics field there is also the possibility to participate at a higher level.

Those registered in the competition can train themselves in twelve rounds.

In a round we propose two algorithmic issues. The solution for one issue means to implement the solution in one of the following programming languages: Pascal, C or C++ and send it for evaluation using the website.

Training rounds alternate with those in the competition. Within a training round are proposedthe issues that the participants have to provide a solution within two weeks.

Once a month there is competition round, in which the participants provide solutions to the proposed issues according to deadlines, with the purpose to train themselves for IT competitions.

The pupils have to send their solutions only using the website, by the date and hour specified as the finish moment of that round.

All the solutions are evaluated by an automated evaluation soft, similar with those used at international IT competitions.

“How to become a champion” is coordinated by Emanuela Cerchez and Marinel Serban (teachers, Iasi), coordinators of SIVECO CUP 2004 winning team. The results obtained by the How to become a champion pupils speak for themselves: 26 out of the 30 finalists of 2005’s edition were awarded at the National Olympiad in Computer Science (Galaţi, 2005) and two “How to become a champion” winners were awarded silver medals at the International Olympiad in Computer Science (Poland, August 2005).

SIVECO Academy

SIVECO Academy is a complementary training program that aims at training students groups at highest quality and performance standards in software engineering and IT business.

The program addresses students in terminal years who want to mix theoretical knowledge attained during university with practice in Romanian biggest software house.

SIVECO Summer School completes the series of initiatives organized within SIVECO Virtual Center for Excellency, providing professional training and workshops for the young people passionate for educational software.
