    NANNOFOSSIL OOZE AND CLAY

Major Lithology:The sediment in this core consists oflightly to moderately bioturbated gray(5Y 5/1) or light gray (5Y 6/1) to lightbrownish gray (10YR 6/2)NANNOFOSSIL OOZE together withinterbeds of gray (5Y 5/1)structureless CLAY.

Minor Lithologies:Five dark olive gray (5Y 3/2) throughvery dark gray (5Y 3/1) to black (5Y2.5/1) SAPROPELS are present in thiscore. All display intermittentlamination. Most are bioturbatedthroughout. Dark gray (N4) decimeter-thick beds of SILT and FORAMINIFERSILT are present in Sections 1 and 2.

General Description:Much of the core comprisesdecimeter-thick beds that display colorgrading from gray (5Y 5/1) clay to lightyellowish brown (10YR 6/2)nannofossil ooze. There are twomicrofaults in this core, one at the topof Section 4, the other toward the baseof Section 5.

A 10-cm thick bed ofFORAMINIFER NANNOFOSSILOOZE occurs at Section 5, 120-130

General Description:The dominant lithology contains paleand dark color bands on a centimeterto decimeter scale and is mottled inplaces. Some relatively foraminifer-richhorizons occur.
