Over the last year our literacy team has worked across all areas of curricula implementing focussed strategies to support our students. Laurier successfully implements the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with over 330 students who consistently perform above the world average in IB subject areas including English, French, Economics, Biology and Mathematics. Our students benefit from highly trained IB teachers who also teach classes in the regular programme. Fantastic School FacilitiesAt Laurier, we have excellent facilities, a great neighbourhood andbeautiful outdoor grounds.  We offer many subjects, includingcommunication technology courses using state-of-the-artequipment.  Our well-equipped gyms and pool with spectator galleryare among the largest in the TDSB. We also feature a 900seat auditorium for student and community performances.

The Arts at LaurierLaurier offers a wide variety of arts programs allowing you toexpress yourself through photography, painting, potteryand Indigenous art forms and culture (NAC1O). Whether you playan instrument or love to sing, we have a course for you. Our dancecourses explore African, modern, jazz and hip hop dance. On stageor behind the scenes, drama classes have a spot for you!

Science Stands OutScience education at Laurier stands out! Student Life - Where You Belong

The development of leadership potential is a high priority atLaurier.  As a young leader of tomorrow, you strengthen yourskills through a concentrated focus on student leadershipand character education.  In addition to a wide variety ofstudent-run clubs, we offer leadership classes.  These helpyou develop your understanding of personal and socialresponsibility and citizenship.  Join one of ourleadership groups, such as Student Administrative Council,DECA, Character Education and Volunteer Now.  We have clubs for the environment, earth and space,yearbook, and clubs such as our African-Canadian StudentAssociation and The Muslim Students' Association.  We area very diverse school - our celebrations include Eid, Diwali,Kwanzaa and Christmas, to name a few.  Our annualInternational Luncheon is a highlight for both staff andstudents.  We offer many sports: basketball, football, hockey, rugby,cricket, cross-country running, indoor and outdoor soccer,volleyball, golf, curling, swimming, field hockey, tennis,badminton and intramural lunch activities.  Whatever youmay be interested in, Laurier has something for you! 

What Sets Us Apart

Parents and students comment on our wide range ofStudent Leadership Opportunities. We value ourinvolvement in and beyond the Guildwood community.Laurier is the signature volunteer school for the TorontoMarathon.Our students work with the Second Harvest, CanadianBlood Services, Canfar, The Hospital for Sick Children andother charitable causes. We now offer an introductoryOjibwe language course. All of these efforts strengthenLaurier's partnership with the community.Our InternationalBaccalaureate program, challenges students that aremotivated and committed to learning to become globalcitizens. IB diploma candidates are also required tocomplete 150 Creativity, Action and Service hours. Our staffundergo special training to be qualified to teach thisprogram. IB exams are set and marked externally. OurCharacter Education program provides all students anopportunity to lead by example. Every fall our Grade 12Character Leaders, along with staff, lead 100 Grades 9-12students in character building activities during a 3 daycamping excursion to Algonquin Park.

Parent and Community Engagement

Laurier is proud of its strong parental involvement in the SchoolAdvisory Council. The school website, the newsletter,Parent/Teacher interviews,  Grade 8 Parent Information night  andour ESL Parents Information night offer opportunities for regularcommunication with the parents and the community.  In partnershipwith the Canadian Afghan Student Success Initiative (CASSI),Laurier has hosted several parent and student information sessionswith a focus on ensuring positive communication between schooland home.Laurier students and staff take pride in reaching out to thecommunity.  Our involvement with Guildwood News & Views allowsus to share school events with the community.  Volunteer Now andMe to We students volunteer at various community events and takeon leadership roles in both the school and the community to effectlasting, global and local, social change.
