Sir Chris Hoy learned to ride a bike when
he was six years old. He was at his
friend’s house and his friend and little
brother (who was three at the time) could
ride a bike . Chris really enjoyed riding his
friend’s bike and started using his sister’s.
His parents finally decided to buy him a
bike . It was a five pound bike from a
jumble sale!

What inspired him to be a cyclist?
• When he was younger Chris Hoy watched
ET and was inspired when he saw the little
boy cycling away with the alien.
• Graeme Obree, nicknamed The Flying
Scotsman, also inspired him with his
bicycle made with parts from a washing
machine. He ended up winning a gold
medal with the bike.
