WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS Without an army of volunteers, our little theater would not be able to keep its doors open. From our board members to our directors, actors, technicians, and everyone else in between, it truly takes hours and hours and countless volunteers to keep us up and running.

We are always looking for volunteers with skills of every kind. Are you gifted with technology? Have you ever considered helping with sound or lighting? Or maybe construction and design is your strength. We are constantly looking for help with set building! Maybe you love fashion and costuming. We are always looking to add to our costume team.

No matter what your skills are, we would love to have you join our theater family. We are always looking for volunteers. If you are interested, email us at [email protected].

2017 FALL SHOW SELECTED!

Music Theatre of Wenatchee is excited to announce that longtime actor and director Matthew Pippin will be directing a modern take on the 60-year-old classic, Twelve Angry Men. The show will play in our fall 2017 slot.

He sees this story as being as relevant today as when it was written in 1954. Originally aired as a teleplay, Twelve Angry Men depicts the deliberations of a homicide trial. During an hour and a half, twelve jurors must decide the guilt or acquittal of a boy accused of murdering his own father. To complicate matters, the judge states that, if found guilty, the boy will receive a death sentence. As the play progresses, the jurors find it increasingly difficult to come to a consensus.

Pippin states that the drama that unfolds in the jurors’ room is one driven by fear and raw emotions. “I have always been a fan of the 1957 film with Henry Fonda,” states Pippin who has chosen to stage a modern adaptation of the classic story. Melissa Carlson, who has produced numerous shows with us will be producing the show.

Audition and performance dates will be announced soon.

CALLING ALL YOUTH ACTORS...COME JOIN SHORT SHAKES!

Returning for their 39th year this summer, Short Shakespeareans will be presenting one of Shakespeare’s best comedies, The Taming of the Shrew. Expect surprises, laughter, singing and dancing in this year’s production.

The classic comedy is about: The beautiful and gentle Bianca has no shortage of admirers (Lucentio, Gremio and Hortensio), but her father insists that she will not marry until her shrewish sister, Katharina, is betrothed. Bianca’s suitors persuade fortune-seeker Petruchio to court her. The suitors pay for any costs involved and there is also the goal of Katharina’s dowry. Petruchio marries Katharina and he carries Katharina off to his country house with his servant Grumio. Petruchio intends to browbeat Katharina into submission and he denies her food, sleep and her new clothes, whilst continuously singing her praises. Katharina is tamed. They return to Padua where Lucentio has won Bianca. At a banquet, they wager on who has the most obedient wife. Each wife is issued with commands, but only Katharina obeys and promptly lectures everyone on the importance of wifely submission. (bardstage.org)

Children aged 16 & under are invited to participate. Short Shakes’ mission is to foster a love and appreciation of the arts and encourage creativity, while annually producing classic Shakespeare comedies. There are no fees to participate! While there may be a few costs, they are not mandatory for participation (e.g. cast meals, t-shirts, costume contribution).

Rehearsals begin after July 4th and the production will be performed over two weekends, August 3-5 and 10-12. Sign-ups to participate in Short Shakes’ The Taming of the Shrew will be in mid-May. Information will be posted soon…visit our Facebook pages (@shortshakeswenatchee and @musictheatrewenatchee) or the website mtow.org for new information to be posted. You can also contactproducer Amy Smith at [email protected].

THEATER

It’s time for spring cleaning! And because of that, MTW is having a yard sale at the Riverside Playhouse. After more than 50 years of bringing live theatre to the Wenatchee Valley, we have accumulated a few things over the years and we are taking this opportunity on June 3rd to help clean house. There will be a large variety of things for sale. Costumes, clothes, furniture, electronics, and just about anything else you can imagine under the sun. I bet we even have the kitchen sink!

Mark your calendar for June 3rd! The doors will be open from 8:00am until 2:00pm.

FRED MEYER PROGRAM

|APPLAUSE|]CHRISTY SHEARER AWARDED

“VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR” AWARD

At our January membership dinner and meeting, the Keith Sexson Volunteer of the Year Award was given out to a deserving volunteer as it is every year. It is tradition within Music Theatre of Wenatchee that the winner of the award the year before selects the new recipient. Last year’s winner, Vern Smith, chose Christy Shearer as our 2016 winner.

Christy first joined MTW as an ensemble member in our 50th Anniversary Apple Blossom Production, The Drowsy Chaperone. She was also in Children of Eden, 9 to 5, and played “Mrs. C” in Happy Days.

Behind the scenes, Christy has produced Boeing Boeing, and was the assistant director for Mary Poppins. Also, Christy has served on the Music Theatre of Wenatchee board for several years and currently serves on the executive board as our secretary. Like many of our volunteers, Christy is often found behind the scenes at MTW. She is a frequent house manager, ticket taker, vacuuming expert, and all around team player. She is always asking, “How can I help?”

Thank you so much for your service to Music Theatre of Wenatchee, Christy, and all that you do!
