In a season of festival firsts in Kingston, I am proud to introduce many extraordinary artists and musical works in 2014. No greater first is the Rhode Island premiere performance of world-renowned violinist Hilary Hahn, who appears in concerts on July 23, 25 and 27.

Others who will step onto the Kingston stage for the first time are pianists Alexandre Moutouzkine and Stewart Goodyear, violists Ayane Kozasa and Melissa Reardon, and guitarist Jason Vieaux, as well as composer David Ludwig. Returning for another visit to Kingston are two of the world’s best woodwind players, clarinetist Ricardo Morales and flutist Mimi Stillman. And, of course, I am so pleased to welcome back festival founder and Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster David Kim for the second week of this year’s festival.

Two special concerts are also firsts this year. On Saturday, July 26, Mr. Moutouzkine, a young Russian-born pianist, will present a program of dazzling solo piano works; and on Thursday, July 31, the music of Mr. Ludwig, an exciting young contemporary composer, will be featured in the intimate and beautiful setting of Kingston’s Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

I look forward to celebrating this season of firsts with all of you.
