I t was a fine conference with brethren coming from a l l over SouthAf r i c a . We were p leased a t th e t u r nou t as we a re o f f th e bea ten t r ack as;.ar as the- cente r -of SA i s concerned, and are tucked way up in -thenortheast ~corner of S o u t h frica ~During October, I was called to Zambia to get the f ina l papers re ga rd ing ourhouse and our f ina l ex i t from Zambia sor ted out . I had to be away three weeks,bu t am now complete ly through and a l l l ega l l y done as fa r as the Zambiangovernment i s concerned. While I was en rou te across the bo rder a t Kazunguia,i^ t i l l on the Zambian side a t the customs post , we came under automatic weaponsi i r e and had to spend 20-30 minutes f l a t and crawling un t i l we were able to(jet to the ca rs and ge t away. Zambian missionary Allen Avery was with me a tthe t ime. The border was closed and we cro ssed the next day. I t was a highlysymbolic ex i t as tha t pa r t of Africa i s def in i te ly in a war zone today.My xtensresume when I go t back and t hey a re now wr i ting their fihar end S^ year exams in the course, Church in the B ible andtu rn ing in t he i r completed workbooks on I I Timothy. We wi l l be giving o ut twoyear cer t i f i ca tes to the 15 o r so we expect to have f in i sh on January 23rd.They are a l l men a l ready in pos i t ions o f l eader sh ip bu t unable to leave homeand jobs to en ter the r es id en ce s choo l. Next year , the f i r s t Saturday andSunday in February, we begin our th i rd year course in ELT and wil l againc o v e r t h r e e c o u r s e s . We knowf rom ou r su rv ey r e s u l t s that abou t 50 o f ou r members have neve r a t t e nd edschool so the le ssons even in s imple form in th e Zulu language, are qui t e anunde r t a k i ng f o r most o f ou r s t u d e n t s .The survey r e su l t s were compiled for the an nu al co nfe ren ce w ith some eye-opening r e s u l t s , such as th e average educa t iona l l e v e l ment ioned above.
