Baseball, more than any other sport, has an almost magical draw to it. Its rich history has kept us enthralled for generations – from Ruth and Gehrig to the record-breaking Hank Aaron, and from baseball’s near demise in the nineties to a nail-biting seven-game World Series just last year.

It’s called our nation’s pastime for a reason. The widespread enthusiasm and devotion have survived throughout the years because we are drawn to something each team has for this sport – passion. Year after year this popular

sport has thrived on this intangible passion that radiates from the players, the coaches, and especially the fans. It’s what has ensured baseball’s success.

If we look at our own professions in the same light, I think it’s safe to say the Agents who have found the most success are the ones who display a similar sense of passion for what they do. The Agents who believe they have a positive impact on their customers, on fellow Agents, and on the Company are most often the ones who have experienced the most personal success.

I ask each and every one of you to examine your own attitudes toward your roles within Liberty National. Do you have the same passion and drive as the most successful players on your team? Do you truly believe what you do makes a difference in people’s lives? Our Company’s guiding principle is to achieve success by deserving it, and the way we deserve it is by fully committing ourselves to meeting the needs of those we serve.

I know not every day in the field is a successful one. I started off as an Agent, and I had my fair share of letdowns. If I had viewed my job as

simply that – a job – I may very well have sought other opportunities on those discouraging days. But I knew that what I was doing had a purpose; I knew that by keeping my resolve to help others achieve financial protection, I would ultimately find myself in a good place as well (and hopefully inspire others to do the same along the way).

If you find yourself lacking some of this passion, this ambition, it’s not too late to make a change. It is our own personal responsibility to ignite that flame present within us. Passion is not an outside force that affects us. Rather, it comes from within, and it is only activated when we choose to let our inner drive lead us to a game winning streak.

Find what stirs your ambition. Is it helping families gain some financial protection? Is it training new Agents to seize our Company’s opportunity of a lifetime? Maybe it’s qualifying for Torch Club, achieving your personal best week ever in production, or closing your biggest worksite sale. Whatever drives you, embrace it and use it to reach your goals. It’s your time to come out of the dugout and hit it out of the park.

WE APPRECIATE CHARLOTTE CENTRAL!Tom Botts’ Charlotte Central, NC, office attended ‘Employee Appreciation Day’ at South Piedmont Community College in Monroe, NC. AUM Melinda Harmon and Agent Joanne White met with 70 employees and set 50 appointments. Great job, Charlotte Central!

FAST & FURIOUS IN PHOENIX!Steve Hartman, Branch Manager in the new Phoenix, AZ Branch, isn’t wasting any time. Steve has the Phoenix press excited. A release from Liberty National was picked up by a couple of Phoenix newspapers anxious to set up an interview with Steve. Great things are ahead for Steve and his growing team!

MARCH ROOKIE UNIT MANAGERTina Nichols and her dedicated team in Brian Cannington’s Waycross, GA Branch rounded the bases at lightning speed to produce $40,444 in annual premium during March.

WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY ...It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the recent passing of two of Liberty’s own:

• Retired Regional Vice President James Adams

• Retired Agent Perry Free from the Tuscaloosa, AL Branch

Both will be greatly missed by their Liberty National family.

From John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.

- John C. Maxwell

http://www.scribd.com/albertchuang/d/63785371-The-21-Irrefutable-Laws-of-Leadership; http://thinkexist.com/quotes/john_c._maxwell/; http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/163590

•This law shows what matters most is what you do over the long haul.

•It requires a lifetime of perseverance and dedication to become a good leader.

•If you want to see how someone becomes a champion, look at their daily routine.

LAW Of PrOCESS #3

Who are the great leaders? Political figures like President John F. Kennedy or Ronald Reagan? Religious leaders like Billy Graham or Pope John Paul II? Or champions in technology like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates? Maxwell’s Law of Process applies to all these people, but they also share several other important traits.

Vision – They all had a vision for a future beyond themselves and worked constantly to help others see and embrace that vision.

Passion – They had a passion for politics, religion, or technology that was so strong they devoted their lives to it.

Decision Making – They understood what was needed to bring their vision to reality and never hesitated to work toward that goal.

Team Building – They recognized their vision in others and surrounded themselves with those who embraced that same vision.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A GrEAT LEADEr?

perspective

A Culture of Growth

Owen WilsonOrlando North, FL Branch Manager

Culture is the central component of any company’s success. Culture both extends from and influences the actions and behavior of every employee within a company and can be anything from beneficial to detrimental to a company’s success.

At Liberty National, our culture has always been one of service – of helping others – whether it’s a policyholder or a new or existing Agent hoping to find success and make life better for himself and his family. Today, the ‘Opportunity of a Lifetime’ we offer our Agents means more than ever.

The new Assistant Unit Manager (AUM) program offers an incredible opportunity, not only for the individuals who have a desire to move into a leadership role, but also for the Company as a whole. This program has the potential to be an extremely effective gateway to significant growth for each Branch and for the entire Company.

Consider this: When Agents meet certain production and DCN requirements and have the desire to achieve more for themselves and help others do the same, they can be promoted to the AUM position. As AUMs, they recruit and train new Agents, extending the Opportunity of a Lifetime to new, willing individuals. Ideally, the AUMs continue to pursue and achieve LNL’s other opportunities, while the newly recruited Agents eventually become AUMs and bring in new talent as well … and the cycle continues, creating prosperous Branches and a growing Company. More Agents have an opportunity for success, and more customers gain the financial protection they need.

This program can have exceptional results in your Branch when it is implemented and utilized with full commitment and dedication. Once this cycle is underway, we’ll see we are collectively enhancing our culture at Liberty National. We are expanding our great Company to benefit everyone from our

Agents to our policyholders to our Home Office. This is where a culture of service meets a culture of growth.

This culture of growth goes hand in hand with the idea of team. With the AUM program, the new Agent receives more field training and is better equipped to be independently successful. The AUM wins because he or she has one or more people prospecting and setting more appointments (which drives the success of the AUM and UM), and the UM wins by having more qualified people assist with field training. As people join our leadership team, they become Branch builders, maintaining our culture of growth.

I’m really excited about this new program, as it reflects our Company’s commitment to helping its Agents succeed. Now we can more easily allow those who have the desire to motivate and inspire to move into a leadership position and reach out to others hoping to find a fulfilling profession.

I truly believe we are on the verge of the most successful period in Company history, and I sense our newly promoted AUMs will be the driving force to get us there. So get inspired, get motivated, and most of all, get ready for our next step. It’s going to be a big one.

Today, the ‘Opportunity of a Lifetime’ we offer our Agents means more than ever.

Liberty Leadership Academy is like a day at Turner Field in Atlanta or Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg! The air is electric. The best talent in the field is there for you. And the people around you are just as enthusiastic and excited to be there as you are. It’s like the seventh game of the World Series every time. Liberty Leadership Academy 101, Fundamentals of Branch Building for Assistant Unit Managers, was held at the Home Office April 16 – 19. Everyone was psyched for an amazing four days, and they weren’t disappointed!

Sha na na na, na na na na na, sha na na na naSha na na na, na na na na na, sha na na na na

Autumn turns to winter,And winter turns to spring. It not just for seasons you know, It goes for everything.

The same is true for voices, When Agents begin to speak. You gotta start using the Laptop, For off-days when you might just squeak.

When it’s time to change, then it’s time to changeDon’t fight the roll-tide, come along for the ride, don’t you seeWhen it’s time to change, you’ve got to rearrangewho you are into what you’re gonna be.

Sha na na na, na na na na na, sha na na na naSha na na na, na na na na na, sha na na na na

Day by day, it’s hard to see the changes you’re going throughA little bit of recruiting, a little bit of training all adds up to youEvery boy’s a man inside, a girl’s a woman tooAnd if you wanna reach your destiny, here’s what you’ve got to do

Change is coming.Soon.

Take a Deep Breath!

Steve DiChiaroExecutive Vice President and Chief Agency Officer

You can smell it in the air … that unmistakable mix of newly laid sod, well-oiled catchers’ mitts, and sweat. Yep, it’s baseball season, and the fun is just beginning!

Baseball has changed a lot since the days of Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, and Ty Cobb. But although it has become big business as much as our long-time national pastime, baseball still represents something that is undeniably good about our country.

The heart of major league baseball is the fans, but the foundation is the individual teams and the individuals who make up those teams. Their desire to go out on the field day after day to entertain the fans and compete against each other has elevated their level of skill and the quality of their competition every year.

I feel that way about Liberty National as well. The Liberty National of 1900 is a very different Company from the Liberty National of today. Like all business organizations, there have been adjustments, changes, and some growing pains along the way, but those have only served to make us a better Company.

The heart of Liberty National is the policyholders who depend on us. But the foundation of Liberty National is the Branches and the talented men and women who go out into the field every day to provide products to protect our customers from financial worry. Along with that comes competition, which is as natural for our Branch teams as it is for players on the baseball field. Competition is a great commodity. It elevates our level of skill, makes us work harder, earns us more money, helps our Branches grow, and makes us a stronger, more stable, and responsible Company.

I’m excited about the baseball season, but I’m more excited about the future of Liberty National. I believe we are moving into a period of success that is unprecedented in our history. Why do I feel that way? Because of you! In the few short months I have been privileged to work with the talented Directors, Branch Managers, Unit Managers, Assistant Unit Managers, and Agents of Liberty National,

I become more convinced every day that we are on the verge of greatness. When I visit with you at Branch Managers’ meetings, see you at Liberty Leadership Academy, or talk to you on the phone, I know you have a fire in your belly just as much as I do, one that burns hot and bright, one that will take you, your Branch, and our beloved Liberty National to a place it has never been before.

I’m excited to be on that journey with you! Together we’re going to slam it out of the park … today, tomorrow, and for years to come!
