This Lions year 9 clubs have not reported anything, and 2 clubs have filled in their last report in April. 25 Clubs have not reported any activities. I know that all have done a lot of work and it is not right that these clubs are registered as doing no activities. A good start is maybe that clubs make sure that the membership and activity report gets read in your meeting as outgoing correspondence. If it is a problem as “do not know how to do the filling in”, ask your Zone Chairman. If it is technical, we have two IT members in the cabinet to assist your club. Congratulations to Napier Host for celebrating 50 years on 30 September and to Hastings host for their 50 years celebration on 1 October. I attended both celebrations. On Sunday 2 October Marianna and I visited Weka Point, where the Hastings Host Club opened a suspension bridge to the Weka Point Scout Camp as their anniversary project. The 50 years of Hastings Lions came together with the 100 year Weka Point Scout Camp. It is fantastic that these two clubs are still going very strong. I wish both clubs many more good years to follow with what they do best “serving their community”. While I think that all clubs do their best to provide outstanding service, I have to mention the Masterton Holdsworth Club for their project of a Blind and Low Vision Toy Library. Last year in October (the month dedicated to service for the blind) they started this project and this October they celebrated the opening. Enjoy your making of the home made music instruments. Young Achievers Report

From Spirit of Napier Lions Club bulletin, October 2011

What a great evening we had on the 6th October! This has certainly been a very successful project. A huge vote of thanks must go to all who have been involved and who have supported it.

After seven months of preparation, we finally saw the results of this project with the Presentation Evening and following photographic displays. The evening itself was a great success and this is in no small way due to the support of the club with over two thirds of our members being involved in one way or another. I know that there are many things that can be improved on, but the feedback we have received has certainly made the effort worthwhile.

Success does not come without a lot of work behind the scenes and a huge “THANK YOU” must go to all the members of the subcommittee, for their time, effort and belief in the project.

Special mention must be made of Lion Mary’s contribution with the many hours she put in working with the school coordinators as well as the photographer. Also thank you to the other members of the club who helped out in many ways. The supper was absolutely superb and a great compliment to those who prepared it. The quality of the power point presentation certainly added to the evening, as did the number of club members present. At present the individual photos are in the vacant Surprise, Surprise shop on the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Emerson St. On the 19th October they will be transferred to the vacant Gloucester Books Shop in Taradale, before being returned to the schools straight after Labour Weekend, to be presented to the Awardees, prior to them going on exam leave. Special mention must also be made of the wonderful photography from Mimi Dwyer and out thanks for her contribution to the project. Financially, I know we have covered our costs. Our thanks must go to our sponsors and to the Trusts that we received grants from. We have a debrief meeting on Monday, and once all the accounts are in, we will have a report prepared for the club. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR A GREAT EFFORT!
